2  Forums / The Monkees Room / Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness on: 01:05 PM | Friday, May 17, 2013
i liked it, but:

i was hoping it would be more original than just a new take on Wrath of Khan.

good, fun, but not GREAT in my opinion.

tom's a real talent, if this ends up being a permanent thing it'll really be too bad, but it does sound very reactionary.

last i heard they're waiting until the last 2 issues are totally finished before putting them out.  i BELIEVE that issue 5 is done, and weaver is working on issue 6.
8  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: American Vampire Anthology on: 07:05 PM | Friday, May 10, 2013
It's $8 on its own, plus it isn't part of the series proper.  My guess is that it won't be.

i could see it ending up in a deluxe hardcover/omnibus kind of thing, but yeah, unlikely it'll end up in a trade.

totally depends on the story being told.
11  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: Kickstarters Worth Kick-Starting on: 07:05 PM | Monday, May 06, 2013
See, to me, if you have a product people want, this is how you do it.  None of that "give us $60,000 to live on for the next year" salary stuff, where you don't know when, if ever, the book is going to come out, and getting their supporters a copy of said book at a fair price is practically an afterthought.  This campaign has a fairly priced book, a book at the CENTER of the campaign, a goal that addresses costs (and breaks them down very thoroughly), a good idea well presented, and of course, a couple of relatively well known creators.  Not everyone has the luxury of running this type of campaign, but then again, all of the most egregious abuses (as I see them) of Kickstarter have come from big names.

And now they're going to be rewarded with pledges far in excess of their costs, so they'll actually make a nice profit on this project.  Classic win-win for everybody.

yup.  put the information out there, be very clear, have multiple levels of worthwhile and appropriate rewards, and most importantly have a product ready to go that people will want.  it also helps to not have any incentive levels that make people say "seriously?  what are you thinking?!"

damn, this is looking like it's going to be funded TODAY.
13  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: Kickstarters Worth Kick-Starting on: 03:05 PM | Monday, May 06, 2013
i really hope it gets funded (and i think it mostly likely will) because i am terrible at following long form web comics so i've been waiting for a lady sabre print edition for quite some time.

i might be wrong, but i have always been under the impression that what you have to worry about is DIRECT sunlight?  if it's getting ambient light you don't have to worry about the UV protection.

What do you folks typically do for framing your original art pages or jam pieces? The 11x17 comic page is too big for any standard frames, but the cost of custom framing is prohibitive.

Anyone found a framing solution online or anything to bring the costs down?

michael's has 14x20 floating frames which fits 11x17 really nicely.  i think they look really nice and it's what i do for pretty much all our original pages, and they're only about $20, usually less because michael's always puts stuff on sale:

My usual go-to's are Bone, MouseGuard, Tiny Titans. Joe Kelly wrote a great childrens' storybook called Douglas Fredericks and the House of They which was published by Image.

Recently, FCBD introduced to me a book called Rust from Archaia that looks kid friendly and really cool.

yeah, Bone is usually my go to rec for all ages as well, but i think 4 is a bit young for it.

you might want to try something like Tintin, that's about the age i was when i started reading them.
18  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: Iron Man 3 [Please Hide Spoilers] on: 12:05 PM | Friday, May 03, 2013
I liked it!
It wasn't amazing, but more than serviceable.
Would rank it higher that Captain America but lower than Thor.

I must never have read an Iron Man story with the Mandarin. Is that somewhat true, the twist in the movie?

no, it's not.

Harley (on the right) and Quinn (on the left).

A coworker of the wife had a litter that they couldn't keep.  They're part siamese so they like to 'talk' to us quite a bit.  It's kind of nice - they tell you when they need water or food or just to be picked up.
We adopted them a few weeks before we had to put down our Westie, Darby.

He was in need of a grooming here, but he was too ill to go through the trauma.

sorry to hear about your dog, unfortunately we may have to put one of our cats down soon, she's been living with cancer for quite some time now.

those kittens might actually be part TONKINESE to be specific.  some tonkinese and siamese look near identical(tonks can have the dark brown coloring like siams), but it's my understanding that more often than not if they are grey then they are actually tonkinese.
