But if they become unemployed, the government will support them and help them find a job for the most part. If they get into an accident, the hospital most likely won't let them die. And even though they're just trying to 'make ends meet' as they call it, this still means three meals a day, hot showers, being able to put the heater on when it's cold, tv and internet, iPhones and iPods, going out to dinner every now and again, holidays/vacations once in a while. There are a lot of places in the world who don't get those luxuries.

Is it ever cold in Australia?  Every movie I ever see, you guys are sweatin' yer asses off.  Just sayin'

So I'm watching the final episode of The Voice with my wife.  One of the contestants, Vickie Martinez is singing "Drops of Jupiter" with Train's Pat Monahan.  Something has just occurred to me... the Lyrics to Drops of Jupiter MAKE NO FUCKING SENSE!!!!!!

Here are the first few lines...

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

the Tiki Freaky Tiki

That song is aimed at girls.  They only care if it's in tune and that the lead singer is cute.  Any attempts to make sense don't matter.

3 Kings son. Wrong Iraqi war, but dope ass movie.

Jarhead is also Desert Storm.  You're right though 3 Kings is the shit though.  I almost forgot about that movie.

Jarhead captures the frustration of being a lowly soldier with perfection. (I know they are marines not soldiers)

I need to rewatch MI 3

Hurtlocker was dope, but my favorite Iraqi war movie is Jarhead

@ Evad-

I totally agree with you on the second paragraph.  She did ask some demographic questions at the end of the survey, but not enough.

Still on the fathers section.  There are adult children out there who's parents still treat them like they are little kids.  I'm of the impression of "your silence speaks volumes".  so even if the survey isn't perfect, we as comic fans have a unique oppotunity to dispell some myths about ourselves.  I've read on a number of threads how comics are not bringing in new readers.  Part of that is because of the sterotype of infantile middleaged virgins living in our mother's basement.  Here is a chance to say "I strongly disagree" with the comment "does your father treat you like a younger child.

Or maybe I'm just so bored with my life I'm willing to take a stupid survey about comicbook reading.   Whaaaat

Maybe uncomfortable isn't the right word. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm 40, those questions felt like they were aimed at someone still living with their father. The questions presupposes a certain type of relationship. At no point were there questions aimed at determining a healthy adult relationship.

The whole thing was poorly done. Too many questions that were too open to interpretation. The survey creators bias was very visible.

There was often no way to answer a question without feeding a stereotype. For instance, who is you favorite comic character presupposes a very specific type of comic fan. How does that question pan out for someone whose favorite book is Maus, Blankets or Asterios Polyp? Maus and Blankets are biographical so the characters are based on real people. Your answers to the questions are probably going to be dramatically different than if you selected Superman, but the questions don't take that into account.

I see what you mean here.  She is trying to find out if comic book fans have daddy issues.   However, there was the opportunity to "strongly disagree" with those questions.  Hopefully, if enough people take the quiz, she will see that most of us are normal.

the social group question threw me off too.  I got into comics with my middle school/ highschool friends and I don't see them any more so....

I answered the whole thing.

I don't understand why answering questions about your Dad makes you feel uncomfortable.

I read somewhere that he said he was playing a general. Lois' dad perhaps?

EDIT: Ooops, it says that on the article as well, about him playing a general although not necessarily Lois' dad. Perhaps General Thunderbolt Ross?

Ok I just downloaded Tapatalk, and it's great for my phone, but when I get on the forum at my laptop the "read new posts" and "threads you posted in" buttons are gone.  What's the deal?

193  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: What if...Marvel Relaunch? on: 01:06 AM | Sunday, June 26, 2011
The only thing I can add is
Brotherhood of Evil Mutants- root for the bad guys as Mutant Terrorist wreak havoc on the Marvel U for political justice.

Any Punisher reboot would have to have a second name like "War Journal", "War Zone", "War.... Something".

I downloaded "Battery Doctor" app.  it helps save you battery life

Also Swiss Army Knife is the shit if you like flashlights (and I love flashlights, I have a sure fire, and a couple of those handcrank flashlights in my house)

I had to drop some karma on you for all the Punisher love.!!!!!!

also for introducing me to Ross Andru.  Some of these I've seen when I was younger but I think my untrained eye used to confuse it with Romita Sr.

Madame Web told me there is some back issue bin diving in my future.

Can you connect a USB mouse to the laptop?  If it stops jumping, you may be right.

I use a wireless mouse, my touchpad is still active even when I use a usb mouse.  IDK if its a function of the mouse or laptop.  either way I think I'll turn down the sensitivity.

After a couple of days with the EVO I love it.  It's my first real smartphone.  I downloaded a bunch of free apps and widgets

Comixology
Swiss Army Knife (turns your phone into a flashlight, compass, level, and ruler)
Battery Dr.
Android antivirus
Some Medical and Nursing apps (i'm trying to get into RN school and currently work in an ER as a tech)
Army Survival Guide (just for fun)

Are there any must have Apps or Widgets you can suggest?  Free would be best.

P.s.  My cursor still jumps.  I think it's the touch pad.
198  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: What's Up With __________ Lately? on: 11:06 AM | Saturday, June 25, 2011
I don't think it's as bad as people have been saying, but it's not really my thing.

I'd like to second this.  It's ok, but two issues in and there's too many things I don't like.  Bendis changed Spector's other personalities too
Captain America, Spidey, and Wolverine
.  So instead of having something that is unique to MK we have three other superheroes shoehorned into a book where they don't belong.  It detracts from who MK is.  Kinda like giving the Punisher superpowers
