Yep, this show is guaranteed to be a massive success. And I also happen to think I'll love the heck out of it.

(really, really hope that's Luke Cage!!)

Yeah I did love Morrison's Animal Man run..most of the books I listed I really liked...if I had to pick though I would say American Vampire is my favorite..Locke & Key at a close second. I really loved Hellboy and Y: The Last Man too.

Awesome! Gotta love American Vampire. Each mini is great and reads well on its own; wish there were more comics like it!
Very excited for the AV anthology they just announced too!

Well I'm going to go ahead and guess that you loved Morrison's Animal Man run!

But just out of curiosity, which of the other books you've read this year have you particularly enjoyed? In my opinion, it looks like you've been reading some great stories!
5  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: Hickman's SHIELD on: 11:05 AM | Sunday, May 12, 2013
Did you guys hear that Hickman will be writing several episodes of Da Vinci's Demons season 2?

Definitely thought of his work on SHIELD when I heard that news. Haven't seen the show but if he brings 1/10 of the awesome from this book it should be fun (season 2, at least)
Fraction is also writing a few episodes (hopefully, with his tone if writing from Hawkeye)

Anyways, I'll definitely reread the whole series whenever it's finally finished.

I'll be happy when they get the blue and white jumpsuits with the shield logo.  Whistle

There HAS to be a least one gag involving those suits. I can't imagine Whedon passing on the opportunity to give a nod to those.

I agree that I'm a little conflicted about this young, 'casual' cast. But thinking of this show outside of my Marvel fanboy angle, I think a well produced and written show about a global agency monitoring a world filled with supers/magic and sci-fi insanity will be a slam dunk. Then sprinkle in some references to characters like Matt Murdock, etc??
Maybe an episode investigating a mysterious 'Man Thing'?

Lots of possibilities that will keep me watching.

I disagree.  Clearly

Okay, 'lol' gets thrown around a lot... But this really did make me laugh out loud at my desk.
8  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: How many issues before a series/characters get stale? on: 04:05 PM | Tuesday, May 07, 2013
I'm a big fan of the Mignolaverse method: Self-contained mini-series in a shared universe. Can pick up and read an arc and (usually) get a satisfying conclusion. Even if there's a macro narrative, each mini can feel fresh and wholly satisfying.

It's the never-ending serialized nature of most Big Two books that can get tiresome for me (though I also LOVE that same quality from those books, the odd challenge it gives creators and the history the reader builds with the characters)
But this is actually why I LIKE the more frequent renumbering at the Big Two. It helps encourage slightly more contained stories.
9  Forums / The Bullpen / Re: Marvel NOW thread on: 10:05 PM | Sunday, May 05, 2013

BTW, while Hawkeye is it's own thing, I do find parallels between Daredevil and Hawkeye. Both books started out as fun and light hearted books but eventually, to the surprise of the reader, became more dark. They are both character driven stories versus plot driven.

Agree. Those books are classic fun, gorgeous to look at and expertly written. But there is an element of FUN (even when things get quite dark) that gives them a timeless feel.
Marvel is offering too many great books right now. But those two are easily amongst the very best, in my opinion.

hopefully I'll get to see it this weekend.  I drew this in anticipation of the flick:

Whoa! That's awesome, dude!!

This was such a beautiful book... Wow.

As an aside, I actually have come to prefer viewing some artists work on my tablet. This books looked particularly fantastic backlit.

I'm definitely enjoying Nova more than GOTG. But I dropped guardians after the first issue, could tell very quickly that it will read better collected (per usual, with Bendis) Really dug the setup for Star Lord though. Gonna be excited to pick up the trade.

In the meantime, Nova is exactly what I want from a monthly superhero book.

Already counting down the days for next year!

Woot! So glad to see this hyped by Mr. Price! Also fun to revisit my incredible tendency for hyperbole (thread title... Oy.)

Really felt this book was way ahead of its time though. When I first saw Google Eye it really made me want to reread this!

Looking like I won't be able to con my way out of work tomorrow for the con tomorrow...

But can't wait to (hopefully!) meet some of y'all at Rev Brew tonight and at the con Saturday and Sunday!

Anyone know what time folks are meeting at Revolution tonight?

Ive thoroughly enjoyed and even LOVED about a half dozen of Millar's stories. I've disliked some as well.

What I know for sure is that he is capable of writing stories that really work for me. So I'm excited to hear that this might be one of THOSE Millar books.

And i'd be buying it for the art regardless so I sure hope the story holds up!

Couldn't possibly recommend seeing this band live enough.

Cloud Cult - Light Chasers

Wildly and unapologetically ambitious and inspirational album.

For me, this had hardcover treatment written all over it.  My roommate is reading it in singles and has been telling me about each issue.  Sounds really good and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Definitely the best way to read this. Very intricate web of a story; it'd be easy to lose some if the threads monthly. This was clearly a passion project for Bendis and it really shows what he's capable of.

Really just a fantastic Ulrich the reporter story. But what could be better than that??
