OK... here's the score from C2E2 for me.  (I already posted the pages in the O/A thread) but here goes.

First... I scored 2 sketchbooks from one of my artistic influences...Bart Sears.

Second... I bought a whole bunch of Copic Gray tone markers (cool & warm) and I also bought a set of the refillable Multi-liners & a carrying case for all of this artistic hardware.

Third... I scored the rarest, most unique books at the entire show.  These books will hold a special place of reverence for me (cause I know that they're both one of a kind volumes).  These are my Bean-bound Nexus books.  I absolutely love them...

Fourth... Yeah, I got my first ink by Brian Stringer.  We're adding color to it next year.
Sorry for the crappy computer photo...
 Whistle

Lastly... because I'm a DCBS local customer, I don't typically buy many books at the shows.  Shopping for books at a convention just seems foolish most of the time.  Therefore, my con experiences have turned more toward Original art.  I think that next year, I may start a themed sketchbook like Chris Campbell and Bean did.  Sounds like lotsa fun.

From Bart Sears.  He didn't bring very many pieces to the show, but he did have a few X-O Manowar pages stuffed in his portfolio.  He said there wasn't very much left of the original run but I scored a nice page with an Aric headshot and some beautiful line work.

Next up is a piece that I discovered Sunday morning in Geoff Darrow's portfolio.  I couldn't pass this up for the price.

I've always wanted a page from Humberto Ramos' Crimson.  I scored this one from Anthony's Comic Art.  He's got several reasonably priced pages from the series.

Lastly, this page is one of my "grail pages".  I'm a big fan of Hawkman; and the run by Geoff Johns and Rags Morales is one of my all-time favorite runs in comics.  Add the inks of Michael Bair and you've got one of my favorite penciller/inker teams.  I was determined to get a page from this run someday, and am glad I got one that still has hand lettering and sound effects.

Now that I've gotten my Morales and Ramos pages, I'm going into full Richard Corben mode for my next acquisition.  Wish me luck.

Gotta' thank Bean.  He made a pair of Nexus custom-bound editions that he gifted to me.  Not only did he spend the time binding them himself, but he gifted me his copies from his childhood.

That man is a true friend.  Love you brother.   Hearts

so... first drawing for the month goes to Monsta (who didn't follow the rules of "the Cheesecake tease" with a spoiler Wink )

and then an awesomely humorous Cheesecake image from Harry.   Thumbs Up

Along with some original art and some art supplies from the Copic booth, I scored a beautiful tattoo from Stringer.

One of the best things that I brought home (other than my tattoo) is a gift from the lovely and talented Bean.

I am now the proud owner of two custom Bean-bound volumes of Nexus.  And these aren't just any old Nexus issues, these are the books that Bean bought as a kid.  I feel honored & very grateful to be the only person on this planet to have Bean-bound books.

Thank you my brother.   Hearts

OK everyone.  I haven't taken the reigns in awhile, but May is gonna' be my month.  I just came back from an awesome weekend at C2E2 (where I bought 2 sets of Copic warm & cool grays and Copic MultiLiner's.  Now... I'm ready to use them.

So here's what we're gonna' do.  We're gonna' draw...

 Hearts HeartsCheesecake Hearts Hearts

That's right fanboys and fangirls, we're doing good girl art in the styles of... and inspired by... such modern masters of the form as

Adam Hughes   Drool

Terry Dodson   Downtown

Arthur Adams I'd Hit It Sign

and Frank Cho  Swooning

Now here's the catch... like any good tease, you have to put spoiler tags on them.  Also, to keep in theme with the art of the tease, there can be NO nudity (This means that you can't show the naughty bits).  Make your drawings as sexy as you can, but keep it within the guidelines.  But most importantly HAVE FUN DRAWING!!

Lastly, I've already said that I believe that this month will set a record for most views in a month  Whistle.  But it would be SUPER COOL if we could knock down the "most pages record" set by the Spidey-villians month too.

Some art that came home with me from C2E2:

Mr. Monster by Greg Smallwood, a page from Star Trek #16 by Gordon Purcell and Arne Starr, and Batman by Gil FUCKING Kane.

Those are beautiful DAP.  You did well sir.   Hearts

Time to post some scores from C2E2.  I bought 4 pieces this year (and other than some Copic markers, that's about it)...

From Bart Sears.  He didn't bring very many pieces to the show, but he did have a few X-O Manowar pages stuffed in his portfolio.  He said there wasn't very much left of the original run but I scored a nice page with an Aric headshot and some beautiful line work.

A great C2E2.  I scored pieces by Rags Morales, Humberto Ramos, Bart Sears, and Geoff Darrow.  I'll try and scan them tonight for y'all.   Great seeing all of my pals too.

I love both of these guys' work, but this Kickstarter is a fucking travesty:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1196306195/bifrost?ref=live

If this gets funded I give up.

1) It's for a novel that's not written yet (at least a year away if not more)
2) The $30,000 is to "pay Frank" for 20 pages of work...i.e., $1,500 page rate
3) The rewards are DISGUSTING
    ***  $25 gets you a friggin BUTTON
    ***  $35 gets you a postcard
    ***  $50 gets you a poster
    ***  $75 get you a t-shirt
    ***  $100 gets you a 5-minute phone call
***  $200 gets you a copy of the world map

NONE OF THESE COMES WITH THE ACTUAL BOOK!!!!!!!!

Absolutely disgraceful.

Heck!  I'd avoid buying the book on principle alone.

A lot of good nominees hear.  But a lot of ommissions in my opinion.

I'm also, more than a little surprised that Fiona Staples didn't get a best artist nod for Saga.

Also wondering how the Gilbert and Jaimie Hernandez BOTH get nominated for best writer/artist, yet the actual book (Love & Rockets New Stories Vol. 5) isn't anywhere else on the list.

I'm coming up Friday morning and staying at the Hyatt.  I will be hanging out with anyone who can tolerate my company.

And yes, I'll bring sketching tools.

My con experience should reflect Jason's with a couple of minor exceptions.

*** act like a BAWSE
*** meet many of you for the first time
*** see many of you again after a 1-year absence
*** bear hug lots of other grown men
*** get a sweet ass piece of ink from Stringer
*** spoon with Vince
*** giggle with DAP
*** eat amazing food with Chris
*** buy Fantastic Four 52 (yep, I'm calling my shot)
*** finish two jam pieces
*** start two other jam pieces*** come away with two or three OA pages
*** host a Kickstarter panel
*** get CRUNKED UP
*** get CRUNKED UP again
*** get CRUNKED UP a third time

Check out Tennapel's Cardboard.  It's fantastic.  Also, Scholastic is reprinting Tommysaurus Rex which should be available this summer.

I know, right?

I can't tell you the last time I heard about how great Batman is and what an awesome move it was to lock down the title's creators for a few more years or when they put that Orson Scott Card Superman story on hold.

Fuckers.

Wanted to let you know... Batman is still great.    Evil

I'm REALLY interested to see where sketch prices shape up at C2E2. I feel like we're about to see some crazy inflation, at least for the guys I'm targeting. It would need to be a grail type artist for me to pay more than $100 for a con sketch, and yet I think some of the guys on my "request" list are going to be charging $250-$300 based on what I'm hearing.

I'm seeing the same thing based upon my initial inquiries.  At over $100 I'm reluctant to order a piece not knowing what I'm going to be getting (see turtleboy's thread last year).  For premium prices like that ($250-$300), most artists have some pre-made pin up style pieces available at their tables or through their dealer that are typical better and are " a sure thing" with backgrounds.  I'm gonna' keep my O/A to one or two pieces this year (other than the commission that I've preordered from a forum member).
