I'm so tempted to get the manga cos I wanna know what happens next but I think I'll wait it out and do the weekly thing.
Did you watch it?
I didn't get the chance yet. Trying to finish off some Justified so I'll probably check it out this weekend.

I'll be there but I'm not going for as long as I did the last two years since it doesn't fall on FCBD and a Marvel movie this year. Looks like a good line-up. Finished my 50's Atlas Era Marvel Monsters jam piece last year so I don't have a big goal at this point for TCAF.

Wolvie is into scarf choking?
Sounds like he has might have something in common with a character from Archer.

Jason going through the X-Men member list with Vince had me laughing out loud It was hard to keep it together listening to that. Started a ways down the list and it just kept on going...Cecilia Reyes, Marrow, Maggot...

I think the trades dropping price might be two months, but I'm not sure since I've not bought one yet and it seemed to take forever to drop. Perhaps some impatience on my part. Still, the ones I have been eyeballing rest at a $8.99 price which makes no sense for a 4 issue collection when the individuals are $1.99
An extra $1 for the bonus material and it's packaged like a trade I would assume in that case.

I should give this a look since I never read the manga.... Flowers of Evil is some creepy shit. My wife likes it a lot. What is up with that ending theme song?
...and this I have to get around to reading so I'm scared to watch since some of these shows are like panel for panel recreations.

I couldn't help myself but think of the "Middle Management Red Skull" joke every time Chris said Corporate Skull.
I pretty much feel the same way about Casey's SEX. Sometimes his stuff doesn't hit big or I wonder how many people liked Full Moon Fever, Codeflesh, and Rockbottom.

Forums / The Bullpen / Re: new age for comics?
|

this is a valid point. but as a singular event to call the beginning of that age would be the death of barry allen, with the dark knight, and watchmen included in the time frame. it signifies a darker grittier time in comics that reflected the times around us. then with the founding of image in 92 that made the world of creator owned titles a possibility. the ages of comics are more, i feel, dictated by content. the way the world is feeling resonates in the media we make popular. from brighter, to darker, from heroes, to villains. the shift in which the market craves is the major factor in an age of comics. its my idea that we have closed a chapter on what was new from that time. and as an industry we have moved away from the anti-hero of the 90's and are embracing a more realistic form of superhero. and with that maybe marvel's ultimate universe is the beginning? i would like to think so. and as the technology of delivery changes, so will what the world makes popular. just a bit of a rant. Going back further I was thinking of the industry since there's been more time between then and now so it should be easier to see. My perceptive of DC would probably never have the Death of Barry Allen as the beginning of an era. While big to DC its not big to the whole industry. Comics are different after Watchmen etc so I would put that at the beginning. You could certainly use the founding of Image just like you could use the Black & White boom with the Ninja Turtles in the '80s. It's interesting that while it may not the anti-hero stuff of the 90's it's not really any less serious with the realistic super hero. The Ultimate universe is a good place to start but the timeline could also be rolled back a year or two with The Authority in 1999 and the influence of widescreen storytelling. It's cool hearing different opinions on era breaks.

You all bring up some interesting points. I do find it interesting, that outside of a few minor creative adjustments, such as a more decompressed story-telling and digital tools for art duties, the end product has been roughly the same for 20 years?
There's usually not huge differences between the ages but something changes.

I like bumping copper/darkage to 1986 for Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Maus, Elektra Assassin etc etc..Such extreme's in this group, some of that late 90's stuff doesn't resemble the early 90's stuff. Then the next age as 2000/2001 but that's largely because of Marvel's changes, launches of new books like Ultimate Spider-Man, movies, and changes in storytelling that were happening.

It is the cartoon. I should have said "episode" in there. I don't read much of the ultimate universe except some #libraryreads
That would have helped. I think only the part of the second half of the first season has aired here. Then at the end you brought it back to comics. Very stream of conscious for you Rabbit. Or maybe I expected footnotes...but Man-Wolf is Man-Wolf...

Hey, I just noticed that the most recent Ultimate Spider-Man is entitled "The Man-Wolf." Ha, I see the big picture now. There is a wolf on the moon, John Jameson, what more could you want? But Spidey saved him in Amazing Spider-man #1. If this cartoon will follow 60 years of contradicting comic book continuity, what good is it? I was very confused reading this. At first I thought you were talking about the comic then I figure it was about the cartoon. I'm out of the loop.

So Fatale is that good? I never hear anyone talk about it, which is surprising considering the talent involved. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
It's great. I enjoy it but its probably not for everyone. The comic is having some interesting single issues tales right now.

The Power Records thing was . I would have tried out a Man-Wolf book with Marvel Now in place of a Morbius one. If Caradiac is coming back then why not the Man-Wolf. Throw some Ravencraft in there too with him.

I never think it's a bad list but looks like a good list that covers the whole industry. I wasn't expecting to have read all of the titles in Best Continuing Series although I haven't read all of Saga. I wouldn't have read anything in the Best Single Issue category if it wasn't for a comics festival. picking some self-published stuff. Happy to see some digital comics/monkey brain show up with Bandette since they do some good work. I don't see a whole lot of DC and nothing wrong with more Hawkguy love.

All I read was the Spidey stuff so I would have been out in the cold. We almost had the super team-up but after 4 hours it was time to shut down the Phil, Kevin and Andy show.
Same here. We tried to keep it going as long as we could.

Those are the actual sounds of walking down to the bunker! Are you kidding me? Wow, that's crazy. On top of what I've already said I was thinking after wow Steve sure knows where to find those realistic spooky sounds. You are that guy from that twilight zone episode.

They don't have any. Star Lord is some alien hybrid and I don't see Nova in the comic book. Yeah I guess that's true but he's humanoid and looks regular enough. Everyone else is different looking so I don't know if I need to see another unremarkable looking character when your in space. Hey look at me again defeating my own argument by saying it sometimes works like when they had Cammy in Annihilation. I thought it was interesting they were going for the Game of Thrones guy before. I didn't know you wanted to be be in movies and wrestling but then you are the LA Rabbit. Let's add you to the Guardians line-up. Super Steve on his own, in the bunker. Time for some werewolf fun. I wonder if I should now call him Solo Steve? Why not? That intro had me looking around all paranoid like not knowing at first it was the sounds he put in.
