I understand it may be in their terms, and I find it wrong that it was put up again. The thing that is strange is, from listening to others talk about starting Kickstarter campaigns, they have to be approved first by Kickstarter themselves. So someone over there had to approve what is going on.
Yes, Kickstarter staff has to approve your project after you sumbit it, and when they do, they give you access to launch your project. They also say, on the page that explains that they have to approve it and you will be notified in a few days, that their staff is human and might make mistakes. The remedy for letting something slip, they suggest, is to bring it to their attention. I want to know who has ever been rejected. What were THOSE campaigns like?? Also, what campaign has ever been re-reviewed and then had the plug pulled? They explain on that same cautionary page that they reserve the right to do that too. But honestly, if they let those webcomic fellas raise nearly half a million dollars to do nothing more than remove ads from their website, I don't see them rejecting much of anything else.

And that's work you DON'T get paid for??
Clearly your talent refused to be confined to a paycheck!! MARVELOUS!!
If my Kickstarter goes into Stretch Goals, would you be able amd/or willing to do a commission for me to make into a Kickstarter reward?

I'm betting that the cost of shipping those heavy ass Sullivan Slugger boxed sets with their hardcovers and cardboard sheathing and whatnot FROM the printer and TO him cost way more than he expected, let alone how much they cost to get them to Europe, Australia, and wherever else.
He might have had to do all this even if his reputation and past practices were clean as whistles.

You're proving an interesting test case Alan. As a rule, I don't back single issues. As a rule, I don't back unfinished projects. Yet, I backed yours because we're friends (an exception was made). Now, to your credit, you've been very good at updating us on the progress and are putting the issues out in a timely fashion. Big ups. And now with your new KS, you're challenging me again because, as I said earlier, I have a very hard time understanding why I should back a project twice for different formats. But since many people are like me and probably don't back single issue efforts, or incomplete efforts, I'm hoping for your sake that this TBP project will appeal to a broader group of buyers that passed over your first effort. In the spirit of full disclosure, you're the reason Kickstarter has ever been on my radar. Hearing you get giddy about it on the show made me consider it and pay attention to what it can accomplish, and eventually go and have a successful campaign. So let me challenge you one more time on this very important concept -- there is no "should" when it comes to this. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, and you have every right not to. So I won't give you the stinkeye if you don't want this. Getting this trade paperback is a luxury for anyone who wants it. Whether this Kickstarter is successful or not, the trade paperback will be produced because the issues are being produced, now in color, but printed in black & white. In October, when the work is ready to be collected, I'll solicit through my website. It might even be distributed by Diamond by then, or Comixology. It most definitely will be available through DCBS because the single issues are. So anyone who wants to pass on this will never get a bad reaction from me. And also, yeah, I hope with you that people who didn't want single issue comics WILL come get some of this trade 210pg colorey goodness. If you would tell the folks about it on the show, that might help attract the trade-waiters better than I ever could, and that would be TONS more support than just ordering a copy of it for your sexy self.

I had a fear of this idea before I pumped up for my new Kickstarter. I had hoped my single issues would have taken off like wildfire and stuffed my bank account full of trade paperback printing moola, but alas no(t yet). So essentially, I'm just offering it for the cover price plus shipping. And as I've learned, shipping includes what I have to pay to get the book FROM the printer as well as get the book TO the buyer. I'm hoping that the tpb being in color is appealing enough for previous backers to double-dip, or just that the art growth I'm experiencing, plus it being a complete 8-issue story arc is something people would like to add to their shelves. Successful TPB Kickstarter or not, I'm still producing the single issues and will be going well past issue #8, just waiting for my "moment." And also a free copy of the PDF. I forgot to mention that goes along with the print tpb.

I'm leery to back the same IP twice, meaning that if i backed you to print your issues, I'm going to have a VERY hard time backing you when you want to fund your collected edition.

I am not against all flashbacks. What I am tired of is the device where the comic starts with an action set piece for a few pages and then flashes back to show how we got there. OH! Yeah, that? No, I didn't do that. 11 Whew!!

It is not about rolling back certain storytelling techniques, it is about encouraging diversity styles. I don't view the flashback method as some genius literary invention that elevates comics into high literature. It is a storytelling technique, no better or worse than other such techniques, just currently overused. I think the Big 2 books (and to some extent some of the more commercial "indy" books) are definitely susceptible to pressure and trending. There will always be comics that are immune that more reflect the artists' inputs solely without consideration for sales or sponsors or corporate interests but those are not for Marvel or DC. I like both types, corporate comics and comics with integrity like those at: http://kingbonepress.storenvy.com/http://powerprinciplecomic.blogspot.com/I recommend everyone try both types. Although after Power Principle Issue #5, I might find 30 coins of silver thrown at my feet. 1I was following the rule of "show don't tell" and there are pertinent facts from the past that needed exposure for the story to become less like LOST and more like FRINGE Third season. 2 In any case, I still do qualify -- no corporate teat here in my mouth. 1 My Rabbit, I have betrayed thee. 2 J.J. Abrams up in this bitch

There were hints but nothing that was so obvious. April's solicts also had hints.
DC was a magician with this death. While everyone was thinking a death would come out of Death of the Family, the death occured in a different title/story.
Ah then mad respect! And there's a perfectly wonderful way to read the solicits for free, no? Does CBR have the same lead time as the Catalog itself?

You're missing the point, people spend money on it and Diamond is not going to leave money on the table. If they could sell it at $10.99 they would regardless of the ad cost. Besides this is a system that they set up to make you pay to see their ordering catalog. Even if you order nothing, you paid to see the catalog. They am smart.
It's not a business model that many of us like, but you can't front on them doing their jobs well.
FYI I haven't paid for a previews or advance comics (remember that, guys?) since somewhere around 1995-97ish (maybe earlier)
Speaking of solicitations ahead of time ... how did they kep the Damian Wayne stuff under wraps until a week beforehand? What did the catalogs show three months ago? And isn't it true that sometimes that catalog info can be spoilerific? Pay for that?? New Thankyew.

X-Men #7 - I saw it on my grandmother's kitchen table and wasn't sure if I was allowed to look through it, but I did, over and over and over. (little did I know my father had dropped it off just for me before heading to work)
Awwwwh?

Mad props to my brother Vince for the Jack T. Chick love. I've been a Chick fan (and collector) since the age of ten.
Ugh. I used to pack those and hand them out as a devotee. Apologies to any in the northwest to whose door I may have knocked on with a partner on a Saturday morning, but thanks to the dude who answered one day in his jockey briefs. Honestly. Speaking of that... "Ohhhhh that's my spot." Jason Wood, you could be a porn star if the hedge fund thing ever falls through.

Also, not my finest hour(s). Worrying about the sound and zero notes put a serious cramp in what little style I have. Not pleased with my participation in this one at all. Chalking it up to a learning experience and moving on.
I cain't tell, listening to the Elephantmen coverage.
