I thus avoided the "John Harrison" spoiler, though as the film progressed, it anticipated it just enough so that it was a fun payoff. As was the case with the first JJ Abrams Trek, I thought the alternate timeline allowed them to really make the callbacks to the previous films both fun and interested, while still leaving you not knowing how it was going to turn out this time. Their ability to pick and choose from the past now, ditching all continuity, is a stroke of genius.

Thumbs up on all that Thumbs Up Yes

Also, the whole thing led to another fantastic Nimoy cameo -- Shatner must be PISSED.

I was getting a little drained in the melodrama and then a shot of awesome in the vein.

I love how they don't devote too much time on melodrama stuff and give us enough meat per episode. And it seems like every other episode some game changer thing happens. I'm so tempted to read ahead with the manga.

I'm a sucker for time travel stories, and this is a good one.

I saw the first ep a while ago and I thought it was okay but didn't watch any other eps. I might have to revisit it since I love time travel stories too.

This just came in my Inbox, if anyone is interested, please let me know and I will add your email address to the pass.

Good stuff! I hope someone takes you up on the offer. I already watch a lot of anime so it's wasted on me Tongue

The timing is good as a new Attack on Titan is available in just over 12 hours

Did you see the latest ep?? OH. MY. LORD. WTF is happening in this show??!?!

Tropico 4 bundle is $9.99 on Steam for another 11 hours.

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/19282/

I mentioned Tropico a few posts back. It seems fun but I have way too many games to play Sad

I got the Burnout License in Burnout Paradise this weekend. It's a really fun game. I don't have all the cars yet and I need 108 wins to get the Burnout Elite License so I'll be picking it up from time to time if I feel like smashing into things.

Next up, I might finally play Arkham Asylum.

Good to hear that you loved it! Among other things, I thought the scene after the title sequence was really well done. The moody piano music certainly didn't hurt (slow clap for Michael Giacchino) and it showed a lot of future Earth which was great. I actually loved all the Earth scenes and for a moment I was thinking "what if they set this movie mostly on Earth?" Imagine the balls that would take to do a Star Trek movie on Earth.

I loved the heck out of this movie and I hope they can do a Starfleet Academy type tv show (or something based on Earth) in the future.

The only complaint that I have about the film at all is just in the title.  The addition of "Into Darkness" just seems there to be a marketing tool to tell newcomers to the series that this is going to plunge the series into a realistic grittiness that they want to embrace.  But there's nothing here that at least to me seemed to say that on say the same level of a Batman movie.

I think it had the potential to go more gritty and 'realistic' but it doesn't quite get over the hump. Not that it's bad but if this was in tv show form, they most likely would've played a little more with the morality and things. But JJ wants to focus on the action so that's cool. It'd be awesome of there as a Trek tv show now and they could sort of do a prologue and an epilogue to this movie where they go deeper into certain events and peoples' actions.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays John Harrison and for me, this is my first exposure to Cumberbatch as I still have yet to see the Sherlock series.  I was extremely impressed with this young actor and just think he's destined to bigger things down the road.  When J.J. Abrams makes the seventh Star Wars movie, he'd be wise to do something with Cumberbatch in that as well.

He was so awesome in the film, I love him to bits. He's excellent in Sherlock too but he's playing different characters and it was good to see him in this role.

The scene where Kirk punches him (saw it coming a mile away) and what followed afterwards (DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!) had be thinking "Holy crap, what am I watching? This is nuts!" But in a really good way.

I'm looking forward to seeing where goes from here and I really hope he gets cast as a Jedi.

I am a bit concerned.

Yeah me too although if the new director is good then at least we'd get a different feel with the next movie and hopefully the new director would bring somehing unique to the table. I loved Into Darkness to bits but it did feel like another JJ Abrams movie (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Maybe Bryan Singer would finally get a crack at it Wink

and damn what a great ending song.

 Yes

I'm really digging the opening rap song (it starts in ep 3 or 4, I can't remember). It sounds like the red haired girl going nuts.

I'd replace Parker and Pak from that group but I'm not sure with who. Thinking Too bad I can't sub Brubaker in there. I guess Waid or Buisek could be the Valentino? Wink

Parker is crazy underrated. I haven't read a Parker issue that I didn't love. Pak is usually good too. Waid already left sort of but I was thinking of him. What's Busiek doing these days? If we have to have an older guy in there, I'd go for Peter David.

I was gonna say Slott but he'll never leave Smiley

I don't think a bunch of writers, no matter how awesome, could have the same impact today as Image did back then. But I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Well done Pua. Well done.

 Cheesy

You mean like Gorilla Comics? With Busiek, Waid, Kesel and some of those artists types which doesn't fit this.  Wink

I may not have been around when that happened since I don't remember it. I remember the name and not much else.

But what if a massive writer exodus happened at Marvel today? Like, what if Hickman, Aaron, Bendis, Jeff Parker, Remender, Pak & Fraction left Marvel and teamed up? Can that team up be a force in the industry or are things wildly different now when compared to the 90s? And how would this affect Marvel?

ERMAHGERD DON RECORDED THE KICKSTARTER PANEL?!?!?!?!

I agree with Vince. Just because Otto experienced all the Peter trauma doesn't necessarily mean he'll be good. Peter at his core is driven by guilt. That's mainly what made him do all the heroic stuff that he's done over the years. Otto isn't that kinda human, he's not that kinda hero. That said, I'm sure you can come up with a perfectly good reason to make him a hero, just depends on the direction that Marvel wants to go.

I bet the Superior Spider-Man run ends with Octavius telling Peter "You are the SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN" Thinking

I'd say replace Otto with Miguel O'Hara. I mean, if we're calling the book Superior Spider-Man and all Wink

OR...

Have new people take up the mantle every couple of issues, with each new person being more 'superior' than the last. Start pulling in people from all corners of the Marvel Universe. And then possibly have a tournament to determine who really is the Superior Spider-Man. Make it into an line wide event and call it The Superior Spider-Man Wars! And then we learn that the whole thing was masterminded by Peter a.k.a. the Superior Spider-Man!

I'm always a little reticent when I see folks express giddiness over something in the show notes when I know that we really didn't talk about the subject much (or positively).  Spider-man 2099 is a perfect example.

Dude, you guys can mention it like *cough* Spider-Man 2099 *cough* and I'd still be giddy. Just knowing that people remember it fondly is enough Smiley

Can't wait to see Steggy do some mothershocking Spidey 2099. That should be the title... The Mothershocking Spider-Man 2099!

Neat intro by the way. TONY FLEECS!

And I can't believe Jason said jank! Roll On Floor Laughing I was just thinking that you guys haven't said jank in a while.
