Two things that Mexico does right and I wish we did here...
1) Every citizen gets a free, hard plastic, hologram-ed and kick ass voter credential card. Your only reason to not get one is being too lazy. Otherwise they should not require ID, fraud is such a statistically tiny thing anyways.
2) You can vote everywhere... every block has a volunteer running it out of his garage so the answer to the questions "where do I vote?" and "how long is the line?" is "on the corner" and "depends how much people are sitting around gossiping".

Yeah, if somebody does not vote... I consider that a vote in a way. There are a lot of real convictions that are contrary to the Republicans or Democrats.
But I hate people who have this whole 'my vote is not going to decide the election' attitude. Yeah, your vote wont, but have the humility to be part of something larger. The bigger the margin, the more political capital your candidate has...
Also I hate this "Harry Potter" attitude where everyone wants to be "the chosen one". No, Obama is not gonna land on your lawn and thank you because it was your vote that give him another term.
*-*-*-*-*
And dont get me started on voter supression... jaysus. I'm latino so I was clued into calls, letters and merch that reminded Spanish speakers to show up on November 7th for the election. Thankfully latinos still showed up and gave Obama a big margin despite the dirty tricks.

Yeah, I'm Mexican/American (I literally have a dual citizenship) so the marijuana laws are a huge deal to me... people are going to use a lot of it, legal or not... but having it grown in the U.S. will greately reduce funding for violent drug cartels. Also it might open up dialog on re-thinking the war on drugs.
Great year for women too, including Elizabeth Warren in Massachussets.
Also a good year for equality, it shows an evolution in the american people's views on the subject.

It was not easy this year... I'm sure the crazy lines and challenges and weather really made it hard for a lot of people.
That said thank you everyone who voted. Personally I'm not going to get too into politics (until somebody else opens that pandoras box) but I will admit I stayed up late, calculator on my computer screen, calculating electoral votes and how California would flip the popular vote based on 2008 margins and turnouts. I'm that much of a politics geek.
And it was like Christmas... not only in terms of the presidency but also specific ballot initiatives and senate races I cared about.

That is weird... with Land I would say that he produces really nice covers, but he is a little stiff on page, which is the source of much of the criticism he runs into.
Erik Larson is another artist who is not everyone's cup of tea and he has a weird mix of cartoony and over detailed... but he really rocks at action, facial expressions, posing and getting 100 things done in one issue. His Spidey is quite possibly my favorite period and he rocks it with Savage Dragon.

Man how can anyone not like Cable. metal arm, crazy cool star eye, came out on top even though his parents sucked at being parents at a young age, led the New Mutants into being kick ass soldiers, defeated his evil clone, unstoppable in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, ginormous gats, and he lives in the future.
+ psychic powers, + central to some big plots, + complex relationship to his cybernetics (techno organic disease). On first glance he is the poster boy for shallow 90's character design, but once you crack the comic cover open he is pretty deep.

There was also that Cable cosplayer that pushed him out of the way of an incoming car. Saving his life made him like cable, but the ensuing 4 hours of love making really cemented his fandom for the character. Also the character is pretty cool.

Listened to the Rachel Maddow podcast this morning... wow NY and NJ are having it rough. I feel for those guys, best of luck getting power back and water out.

I'm not really a fan of flavored vodkas, and the same goes for flavorless ones.
In other words I like vodkas that taste like vodka, not like tap water (gray goose) or... cake.
That said glad you like it.

I dont know if the exorcist counts as a directors cut but the version that was re-released was not very effective. It had a great spider walk scene (made believable by CGI) but it also had some cheesy super-imposed images and some scenes that where cut because they where simply boring.

Actually, I think the first one was supposed to be humorous, but people took it seriously and were frightened by it. That's why Evil Dead 2 is more explicitly humorous.
That is what I was thinking after watching the trailer (without sound, I'm at work). It looks scary, which is good... but I hope it is at least a little bit funny. We dont have enough good funny horror movies and horror comedy is one of my favorite genres (see Sean of the Dead for example).
