Had a blast, and so happy I got to hang with the likes of Slurmo, Devilhand, Andy Jewett, and Johnny. I got a bunch of awesome sketches, and the top of my heap were two excellent Savage Dragon commissions by a couple of our talented forumites. First up was a sweet bust by Andy Jewett: Then I tossed my book over to Devilhand, and he went to town on an awesome Dragon vs. Mako piece: It was a ton of fun hanging with the few of you I was able to find. As always, it was way too short, and next year can't get here soon enough. Hope everyone has a successful Sunday.

I've loved Chew since I was lucky enough to grab the last copy of #1 off the rack at my LCS. That was 4 years ago, and this is the first time I'll be able to see the creators in Chicago. I really want to get a Rob Guillory sketch, but I can't make it on Friday and he's almost definitely going to fill his list before Saturday morning. Anyone going on Friday first thing that could put my name on his list? I can Paypal the cost of the sketch plus a little extra to anyone willing to do this huge favor for me. Can anyone help a brother out?

Heard about this while listening to Chicago Public Radio this morning. Symbolia is a bi-monthly digital only magazine. It publishes ongoing investigative journalism in the form of comics. The idea is to assemble world class journalists and cartoonists to create an engaging new way to experience news. Seems pretty cool. As of right now there is an iPad app as well as a PDF version available. The first issue debuted today, but there's also a free preview issue here(PDF).The free preview issue contains: -Susie Cagle’s thoughtful exploration of California’s Salton Sea. -A look at life in Iraqi Kurdistan by Sarah Glidden. -Kat Fajardo and Audrey Quinn on evolution and a fish called “The White Man’s Office” in the Lower Congo River. -The bold history of Zambian Psychadelic Rock, by Chris A. Smith and Damien Scogin. -Andy Warner and Lauren Sommer tour the millions of microflora in our guts.

I enjoyed the first issue well enough, but I honestly can't remember anything that happened. It sure was pretty, though. If the second issue jogs my memory enough - or sets up something a little more substantial - I'll stick with it.

I'd fallen a bit behind last month. Time to kick it into high gear this month. Great book, I picked up a bunch of these during a Dark Horse digital sale and have been working through it. They just keep getting better.
How fortuitous. I just read Emp vol. 4 the other night. I think it's where the book really hits its stride. Great book indeed.

No decade has any more or less 'good' of any medium it all comes down to signal vs. noise and stuff you find to love. 90% of it is shit anyway so find the 10% you will love.
I tend to disagree with a lot of your opinions(which I never kick you for because I respect your ideas), but I'm a firm believer in this concept. I would also expand it to genre. Karma.

Loving it. Perfect summer record for me. I haven't listened to many new albums this year, but it's currently tied with Fiona Apple's latest for my favorite.

not even close. However, Wizard is not really a comic con anymore. It really is an autograph show. The comic people are all in the alley in the back. No more companies or publisher booths. That entire area is now wrestlers, ex wrestlers, hollywood celebrities, TV personalities, etc.
Exactly. And while I didn't mind paying 20-30 for a Saturday at a show like WizWorld, There's no way in hell I'm paying $45 for the same experience. I'll stop in on Friday or Sunday if I'm free, otherwise it's a no go.

It must suck having a television where you can't change the channel.
It's more the assumption on the part of my 'non-geek' friends that I must enjoy the show because it's about socially inept smart people. I'm not really a 'science' guy, and while I can be socially awkward, my mind does not work the same way as many characters on the show, so it's hard to relate. Plus, there's just something about Sheldon that made it impossible for me to tolerate the few episodes I've seen. He just drives me up a wall. On the other hand, I find Always Sunny in Philadelphia hilarious. Despite it being full of reprehensible, douchebag characters, there are episodes that really tickle my funny bone.
