I'd say I'm in the middle opinion. Some of it appealed to me, some of it didn't connect with me. Probably not enough for me to keep reading but I can see the appeal it has for others.

The "nuspeak" will take some getting used to and I'm not totally sold on the book overall, but the art was dope and the timing is perfect. I've been wanting a little more sci-fi in my comics diet and this hit enough right notes to warrant further reading. I'll stick around and see what happens.

I've been wanting more sci-fi in my comics too and with Risso's art (and excellent coloring by Patricia Mulvihill), it's an easy sell for me. I'll get used to the nuspeak. If I can read an entire novel written that way (A Clockwork Orange), I can adjust to it in a comic!

Jim, you beat me to my point, but I did read A Clockwork Orange after I saw the film and my copy had a dictionary of words at the end.  I have a feeling that this book will find its audience in a few years, but I am in for the ride (via digital download on my Ipad).

One thing I preferred about this book is the paper it was printed on. Some comics work better on pulpy paper.

Read this issue today, and I loved it. And like you gentlemen, the use of nu-speak immediately brought to mind A Clockwork Orange  Yes

Azzarello and Risso - one of my favorite creator teams in current comics.

I couldn't agree more, a book that not only looks good, but feels good.

Yup! That is the first thing i said when I flipped it open. I think the pulpy paper actually adds to the art style if that makes sense. With the Fables deluxe editions they are using the shiny paper and I still prefer the way it looks with the paper in the trades/singles.

Patricia Mulvihill really sucked me in with that moody coloring job.

I don't know why more comics don't use this paper.

Yeah.....I wish more comics went with flat (or flatter) colors.  Not everything needs highlights (especially since most colorists put the highlights in the wrong places).

I enjoyed it enough for the 2nd issue. The nuspeak is taking some getting used to.

I read Clockwork Orange many years ago and had no problem viddying the lingo, but for some reason the slang in Spaceman was very distracting & kept taking me out of the story.

I'm not going to get this series in issues.  I think trying to dive into the world/slang once a month will be way harder for me than just getting a TPB one it's all done & reading it straight through.  To extend this to Clockwork Orange, I didn't read that novel one chapter a month over the course of a year or more.

I liked it too. The Nuspeak did not bother me a bit

I picked it up I just need a minute to sit down and read it. Im not really a fan of 100 Bullets but I liked his Batman Flashpoint and his Wonder Woman and the concept sounds interesting to me.

Anyone else reading this? I find myself going back and rereading the first 2 issues and it gets better each time. There's some really deep and interesting storytelling going on and Risso's art is great as usual.

I haven't read the second issue yet, but this might not be the book for me to read as soon as each installment hits the street.

YEah, I should've searched for previous threads.  Whistle

I think the 2nd issue really opened up any questions I had the first issue. The "nuspeak" works better as well. By issue 9 I doubt I'll even think about it.

I think the trade is going to read really well... it's books like this that make me question the floppy model for every comic but at the end of the day its fun to look forward to the next issue.

I tend to enjoying reading books like this in single issues too but I do find myself wondering if I should wait for the trade. After all, even with a $1 first issue, total cover price for this series will end up being $25. Daytripper was 10 issues and the cover price for the trade was $19.99 so it's a good bet it'll cost less to read Spaceman in trade than monthly.

Decisions, decisions...
