i never finished the black dossier either!  i tried twice and i just couldn't get through.  i thought it started really great and then grinds to a halt about halfway through.

I had pretty much the exact same reaction, and I loved the shit out of the first two volumes.

Acting like you are cool mentioning that your comic doesn't include sparkly vampires makes me less likely to buy it. There's tons of vampires stories out there you don't need to put down one vampire story just to promote yours, it's getting old.

Don't know if it's a confession or not, but I think Unwritten is a much better literary-based story than Fables.

Currently reading through the third trade, I'm inclined to agree with you. Didn't think Fables would be topped anytime soon, but goddamn it are Carey and Gross killing it right now  Hearts

So, Tom is supposed to be like a literature shaolin monk, right? I didn't get how, in the second collection, he's talking to
Frankenstein's monster and he says something like "You have the brain of a criminal! That's CANON!"...Yeah, that's film canon, but the Shelley story didn't go into any detail about the corpse or even how the body was resurrected.
That bugged me, for some reason. Whaaaat

I read it but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first two (I never read Black Dossier). It felt to me like Moore was too intent on being clever and consequently, I thought the story suffered. The art was as good as ever though. Smiley

That's exactly how I felt about Black Dossier. It started off well, but then became about Moore impressing us with how "out there" he is. In the interest of full disclosure that's how I feel about a lot of his work though. That said, my man makes a whooooole lot of people happy with his work, so there you go.

Unwritten is all about stories, the affect they have on us, & the affect we have on them.
Remember they also deal w/ Goebbels & his films.  Literature is only one part.

Ninja Battle  Shaolin rules still apply.

Ah, I see. I was digging the first volume when is was all lit-geek stuff, but I barely made it through the second one. Maybe that's the reason why. Thinking

To be fair, most of it is still literary stuff. The Goebbels story
is all about a novel which gets slightly deranged after the Nazis made it into a very popular film, radically altering its narrative and morale in the process.

You're right! I totally forgot about that part of it. I was kind of coasting by that point, anyway.  Whistle

I liked 1910, but thought it was the weakest of all other volumes.

I also like Black Dossier.  I got super high and reread the ending once.  Blew my mind.  Did you guys see the Captain Marvel in there?

I brought the first hardcover of American Vampire and didn't like it at all. Not seeing what the fuss is. Really funny how some books click with certain people and some don't.  Thinking

Here's a non-comics confession: that sounds fun. That stuff became very not-fun once I grew up.  Cry

I used to think Marvel's Nth Man written by Larry Hama was good when it came out. Upon re-reading it seems to have lost its shine a touch. I hate it when that happens.

Also, took me far too long to eventually get round to reading Umbrella Academy, but glad I did, that was fun.

I don't like Watchmen.  I don't enjoy the artwork and everytime I've tried to read it, it just bores me.

I've read one issue of Godland. I never felt the need to buy a second issue.
