Great month Monsta.  I loved everyone's old... and new takes on their characters.  This month I'm in charge so I'll just cut all of the pomp and circumstance and get right to it.

*******************************************

OK everyone.  I haven't taken the reigns in awhile, but May is gonna' be my month.  I just came back from an awesome weekend at C2E2 (where I bought 2 sets of Copic warm & cool grays and Copic MultiLiner's.  Now... I'm ready to use them.

So here's what we're gonna' do.  We're gonna' draw...

 Hearts HeartsCheesecake Hearts Hearts

That's right fanboys and fangirls, we're doing good girl art in the styles of... and inspired by... such modern masters of the form as

Adam Hughes   Drool

Terry Dodson   Downtown

Arthur Adams I'd Hit It Sign

and Frank Cho  Swooning

Now here's the catch... like any good tease, you have to put spoiler tags on them.  Also, to keep in theme with the art of the tease, there can be NO nudity (This means that you can't show the naughty bits).  Make your drawings as sexy as you can, but keep it within the guidelines.  But most importantly HAVE FUN DRAWING!!

Lastly, I've already said that I believe that this month will set a record for most views in a month  Whistle.  But it would be SUPER COOL if we could knock down the "most pages record" set by the Spidey-villians month too.

*******************************************

HAVE FUN!

If you're new to the thread here's how it works.  We're here to have fun and to sharpen our drawing skills.  All amateurs & professionals are welcome to participate.  If you want to submit a piece of artwork, here are the rules...Number #1) only post characters for the current month's assignment (a little spillover is OK from the previous month)...Number #2) You must be the artist (we're not looking for your original art collection, that's another thread)...& Number #3) (and most importantly) Have fun drawing.

Awesome stuff guys ! I hate commenting on this thread because I always leave someone out of my mentions especially in a busy week like this !

That said loving the creature from the black lagoon Monsta. Reminds me of the Alan Moore Swampthing story where there vampires living in that lake can't remember who drew it.

NiceAndBlue, when they eventually remake Mystic Pizza, I hope they do your version. I hated the first one.

monsta, that's awesome. Love all the little fishies  Cheesy

eyemelt, anyone who draws anything from Night Breed deserves an extra helping of Karma. Very cool.

gordo, hair's tough! I hate doing hair! Oh and that Hellboy colored up very nicely.

Stringer, can't wait to see that in color  Evil

Here's another Kirby inspired monster. This adorable guy originally appeared in Journey Into Mystery #57 where he was rust-colored on the cover. When it was reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell #12 he was the pale yellow seen below on the cover. Inside of both issues, he got your standard comic book metal blue treatment. I love how drawing and coloring on-model was totally secondary back then.

Anyhoo..

I ended up stopping in Jerry's Art-a-rama Friday afternoon and bought this:
I was able to do about 3 hours work on the Orcstain piece Fri night, and 3 hours Sat night. I still have probably 3 hours to go. Should finish it tonight. It's certainly a lengthy process to color such craziness. Plus, I'm a straight up rookie with prismacolors. I'm stumbling through trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. The grey sets are much easier to build gradients. I don't have quite enough colors to do exactly what I want yet. But, I'll make it enough... I'll post pics hopefully tomorrow.

Harry- usually if I'm doing a symmetrical piece, I'll draw half, then lightbox the reverse. This was me trying to work faster and looser than normal. So, I just went for it, straight onto the board. I'd just call it balanced.
Mickey- you're awesome. I'm jealous of your computer skills. I should get with this millenniums technology..

I"m gonna re-post Mephisto just because that other file was so small.

#9 - Creature swimming upside down.
I've been working all day on this high concept and had a buddy come over and help me color it properly with Photoshop. I felt I had a handle on it and then... CRASH!
I tried to start over and promptly forgot everything he told me, so I threw it up un-colored because I don't have time to do another drawing tonight.
I'll try to re-post if I can remember the Photoshop tricks.

Here's one I did today:

NiceandBlue- That's crazy cool! Did you use markers?

Yeah, I used a set of BIC permanent markers that I just got on Friday (http://www.staples.com/BIC-Mark-it-Fine-Point-Permanent-Markers-Assorted-36-Pack/product-nr_670528). I really like them so far. That was the first thing I've used them on so I'm still getting used to how they work. They react very differently than Prismacolor or Copic (so jealous of the set you bought!!!!!!) and don't really blend in the same way. They give a really nice consistent and vibrant color that I think would be a pretty good compliment to other alcohol based markers. Even if just for solid fills and such (much more economical considering you can by a set of 36 for what you would pay for 2 Copic markers). I really hope they come out with more colors, but they at least provide enough values to do two color shading with most colors and you can fudge some highlights with a blender. Until I can afford to build up a decent collection of some nice markers I think I'll stick with these for a while.

Ok, so the pose is totally based on the little corner image from the covers to this book but I did try to embellish and put my own stamp on this. Different approach to colors as well.

OOGA BOOGA

I feel like those balls would make Statler and Waldorf style comments all day long. If I was editor, the challenge would be to draw big anthropomorphic dicks doing various activities. I will never be editor.
