Great month Monsta.  I loved everyone's old... and new takes on their characters.  This month I'm in charge so I'll just cut all of the pomp and circumstance and get right to it.

*******************************************

OK everyone.  I haven't taken the reigns in awhile, but May is gonna' be my month.  I just came back from an awesome weekend at C2E2 (where I bought 2 sets of Copic warm & cool grays and Copic MultiLiner's.  Now... I'm ready to use them.

So here's what we're gonna' do.  We're gonna' draw...

 Hearts HeartsCheesecake Hearts Hearts

That's right fanboys and fangirls, we're doing good girl art in the styles of... and inspired by... such modern masters of the form as

Adam Hughes   Drool

Terry Dodson   Downtown

Arthur Adams I'd Hit It Sign

and Frank Cho  Swooning

Now here's the catch... like any good tease, you have to put spoiler tags on them.  Also, to keep in theme with the art of the tease, there can be NO nudity (This means that you can't show the naughty bits).  Make your drawings as sexy as you can, but keep it within the guidelines.  But most importantly HAVE FUN DRAWING!!

Lastly, I've already said that I believe that this month will set a record for most views in a month  Whistle.  But it would be SUPER COOL if we could knock down the "most pages record" set by the Spidey-villians month too.

*******************************************

HAVE FUN!

If you're new to the thread here's how it works.  We're here to have fun and to sharpen our drawing skills.  All amateurs & professionals are welcome to participate.  If you want to submit a piece of artwork, here are the rules...Number #1) only post characters for the current month's assignment (a little spillover is OK from the previous month)...Number #2) You must be the artist (we're not looking for your original art collection, that's another thread)...& Number #3) (and most importantly) Have fun drawing.

Probably as far as I am going to get this month (still nothing more then a colored underdrawing)... I need to try and draw with a wacom tablet more often (so uncomfortable).

That looks real nice though...

It does get easier with a Wacom the more you use it... it's just sticking with it.

Good stuff! I really like the palette. The purples in the background work nicely with the muted blues in his costume. Nice layout, too.  Thumbs Up

I've bee 100% digital for years now. Play around with the Brush settings in Photoshop, especially the Spacing controls and which attribute you assign Pen Pressure to. I think a lot of working with a tablet is getting all of the brush settings tweaked until it feels comfortable. Just like finding the right pen or brush in traditional media.

Andy: Looks great.  I've never tried working digitally, so I'm in complete awe in anything that's done that way.  Colors look great.

Mickey: Did you do the Cap with the "mini-Hitlers" digitally as well?  I was sure that you did that old school.

Anything done digitally completely amazes me.  It's not that I don't want to learn it, but I don't feel as if I'm ready to sink that much money into software/hardware that would let me do something of that nature when I'm not sure that I'd be able to do it very well.

I would eventually like to learn how to scan my finished pencils (with a good scanner, and not the copier at work) and learn how to color my own work digitally.  I think that I've seen some books on how to do it.  When I'm ready I'll probably pick up one of those from Blue Line Pro.

I've had no luck finding a great book on coloring or scanning. I have several OK books, but this video tutorial helped me a great deal with coloring.

I found this NSFW link that has a scanning tutorial

Yes Yup, both were all-digital.

If its helpful to anyone, I've uploaded my Photoshop Tool Presets at: http://www.subflux.com/11oclock/MickeysPresets_cs5.zip
(thumbnail in the spoiler below).

This is my standard Photoshop/Wacom loadout, optimized for working at 600dpi. I do most of the pencils with the one called 'Sketch Pencil'. I've been using Manga Studio for inks lately, but when I ink in Photoshop, I use the 'Quik' brushes.  I also use those for blocking in the color. The 'Quik' brushes are actually un-aliased pencils, which are a lot easier to grab with the wand tool later. And at 600 dpi, the jagginess disappears when its printed. They're also a lot faster than the anti-aliased brushes, so they feel a bit smoother, especially on older machines.

Oh and a quick Photoshop tip! The '[' and ']' keys can be used as a shortcut to make the brush smaller/larger. Life saver with a tablet, if you don't already know that one

Mickey that one's awesome (and my favorite).  I'm assuming that one's digital as well?  Any chance that I'll be able to print this one off in 11" x 17" and hang it in my basement?  With your permission of course.

Awww, man, that's really flattering. Thanks!  Cheesy

Here's a link to an actual size version, in all it's 4961x7016 pixels, 8 1/4" x 11 5/8" at 600dpi, 2.89mb glory. It should hold up pretty well at 11" x 15" on most printers, too.

Enjoy!

Great job everyone!!  A lot of awesome sketches on this thread.  Thumbs Up

For anyone who'd like to swap sketches with anyone else (for those of you that didn't work digitally), drop me a PM and I'll drop your name into the hat for the random drawing.  After I match up the artist's I'll post them and you can contact each other to finalize the mailing requirements for the swap.

Also, for those of you that have shared your digital files, thanks so much.  I've gotten some great art out of this thread.

Also, after the coming holiday weekend, I'll be posting the January Challenge (suggested by Mr. Andy Jewett) and we'll start on the January sketches.  btw, I'll retitle the thread EOC Sketchbook Challenge for January.
