Great month Monsta.  I loved everyone's old... and new takes on their characters.  This month I'm in charge so I'll just cut all of the pomp and circumstance and get right to it.

*******************************************

OK everyone.  I haven't taken the reigns in awhile, but May is gonna' be my month.  I just came back from an awesome weekend at C2E2 (where I bought 2 sets of Copic warm & cool grays and Copic MultiLiner's.  Now... I'm ready to use them.

So here's what we're gonna' do.  We're gonna' draw...

 Hearts HeartsCheesecake Hearts Hearts

That's right fanboys and fangirls, we're doing good girl art in the styles of... and inspired by... such modern masters of the form as

Adam Hughes   Drool

Terry Dodson   Downtown

Arthur Adams I'd Hit It Sign

and Frank Cho  Swooning

Now here's the catch... like any good tease, you have to put spoiler tags on them.  Also, to keep in theme with the art of the tease, there can be NO nudity (This means that you can't show the naughty bits).  Make your drawings as sexy as you can, but keep it within the guidelines.  But most importantly HAVE FUN DRAWING!!

Lastly, I've already said that I believe that this month will set a record for most views in a month  Whistle.  But it would be SUPER COOL if we could knock down the "most pages record" set by the Spidey-villians month too.

*******************************************

HAVE FUN!

If you're new to the thread here's how it works.  We're here to have fun and to sharpen our drawing skills.  All amateurs & professionals are welcome to participate.  If you want to submit a piece of artwork, here are the rules...Number #1) only post characters for the current month's assignment (a little spillover is OK from the previous month)...Number #2) You must be the artist (we're not looking for your original art collection, that's another thread)...& Number #3) (and most importantly) Have fun drawing.

Great topic this month, and some fantastic variations on the theme so far. Hope to get a piece done before the month is out!

I couldn't agree more. Nice job everyone.

I saw this photo on twitter a few days back and thought it would be awesome for the thread. Nic Cage has been associated with comics for quite some time, so I thought it would fit.

I've been crazy busy, but it just so happens I have a few submissions for this topic. I have to scan some of the reference pictures later, but here are a few quick sketch portraits that I've been doing as warmups this month. I'm also playing with a new technique.

Wow, I am a horrible, horrible monthly editor! I am so behind on everything and been neglecting my duties on the thread! Please forgive me!  Embarrassed

I did it traditional but after I started drawing I ran out of room and had it laid out wrong   Embarrassed so I drew each character on a different sheet of paper and then stitched it together in PS.
Nothing wrong with that... I've had my share of drawing myself into a corner by not planning out the layout thorough in sketch process.

I will try to get a better image of the actual drawing, but here's the Freddie Nova, the model from tonight's Dr. Sketchy session holding my illustration of her:
She chose me as the first place winner so I was all giddy and mentally disorganized in the positive vibes that followed and forgot to snap a picture of the image. Boogie
Huzzah! Thanks to Dr.Sketchy Cleveland people and Freddie Nova for setting me straight.
Well, first of all, TOTALLY CONGRATS! That's a beautiful piece! How much time did it take you to finish that piece... it seems you had to do it during a live session! Fantastic!

The source photo (with a bit of touch-up to make it mostly SFW):
The drawn pic:
My pencil quite literally exploded on me halfway through, so I finished using just my brush pen. It was nerve-wracking.
I can totally see her as Psylocke! Great choice of reference to the subject matter. I would totally like to hear more about this "literal explosion of your pencil."

I used
to make
its 11x17 in copic marker under my pseudonym Cincinnatus that I will be using for my sketch card and comic work starting with my latest set for cryptozoic.
just realized I also used this in may for avengers month. There you can see it from blue line layouts.
Yes, I remember seeing this Wolvie piece earlier. I really like the tension captured in the stance of the photo, especially his left fist. It is totally a Wolverine fist.

Great topic this month, and some fantastic variations on the theme so far. Hope to get a piece done before the month is out!
Definitely looking forward to it!

Here's the second stage of roughs for a mock cover I've had brewing in my head for a while. All chimp faces and nazi uniforms have been referenced.
Going to add more Nazi Chimps then lightbox it and finish it.
NAZI CHIMPS!!! FANTASTIC idea! :-) That looks great.... I love the realism of the chimps faces making the fantastical characters of the piece more believable. Perfect use of photo references!

I couldn't agree more. Nice job everyone.

"I WANNA TAKE THIS FACE... OFF!"
You are so right about this photo belonging in this thread! LOL. That is one scary face he makes... would say that his human face is more scary than the Ghost Rider's.
I don't know if this was intentional, but in your rendering, he's totally looking at his own reference photo. CREEPY!

Okay, a small confession. I've always wanted to be a Green Lantern.
Thank you so much participating this month... I love seeing references being turned into a diverse style of interpretation. It looks great!

Good gracious! Great set of sketches! Keep 'em coming, monsta!

Mechanical pencil. The metal cone bit that makes the tip, I guess the screw threads of it stripped out or something, but it flew off to the other side of the room, the spring bounced up and hit me in the face, and the lead barrel just fell out of the shaft. Never had one fail quite so spectacularly.

Thanks Jun Bob!

Here's the final layout and links to the chimps used as reference.

Starting upper left and going clockwise:

Knife Chimp
Choking Chimp
P-38 Chimp
Punched Chimp

Background elements are ripped from several rainforest images found on Google image search.

I'm going to print it out, lightbox it, and tighten everything up.

Excellent work everyone!  Rock Horns

Here's a few I've been working on.
I'm not sure who this character is, but it's a Pat Loika image.

Cesar Romero's Joker

And the last one isn't from a photo, but from a painting. George Bellow's Dempsey and Firpo.

Excellent contributions this month. I like the switch from the usual superhero subject to the art style one.

Anyway, heres my contribution. I've been asked to do some health and safety sketches for work (Royal Mail) to demonstrate each individual accident, from certain offices, in the form of a drawing. This is one of them, someone falling on a stairway and damaging their ankle...

Wow! I still have a mechanical pencil my dad bought for me back in 1986 and never ever had one blow apart on me. It's a Pentel .3mm that he searched high and low for me because he saw how much detail I was laboring to put into my art on 8.5x11 sheets. Pre-internet era, I was not aware that comics were drawn on 11x17 sheets and then reduced at production. It was my dad's first gesture of support for my new aspiration to becoming a comic book artist. I would be completely bummed out if something were to ever happen to that pencil.

Rock Horns You are on fire this month! Thanks for keep submitting the goodies!

You Joker pic confirms my earlier suspicion that you are making the drawn characters looking at the reference photos on the iPad.  Yes

Cool That's a great photo! Pretty cool how you're planning on working that into your topic. So can we see the finished pieces when you get it all done (assuming these were not the final pieces)?

As far as your final statement is concerned, been doing a lot of forgiving lately?  Thinking
