RD JR is under contract and had Directorial Approval, so if it's not a good fit, Rob can say "no."

Am I worried about IM3? Not really. I just like Favreau and think he's done a great job so far. IM2 wasn't as good as IM, but it was still a ton of fun.

Compared to what?  Superman Returns?  Elektra?  Daredevil?  Ghost Rider?  Catwoman?

The first Iron Man movie?

Hey, HEY!

If you dig it, more power to you.  I'm not trying to poo-poo on anything you like, but that was an all around mess.

The first Iron Man movie?

I'd still disagree with him.

At least the third film won't look like it was directed by a robot.  Thumbs Up

I'm not too worried about it, lots of film franchises have successfully maneuvered through new directors. So far Marvel has knocked it out of the park with their self financed film slate, and that includes finding great directors.

Out of the Park really? I know they've made money but what else have they made other than Iron Man movies? Cause I really don't think The Incredible Hulk was that good. I prefer IM2 over IM because the last act of IM was not well thought out until the last 2 scenes.

Branagh is great, Favs is a pretty good one on the way to becoming a fine director one day, and Whedon has done one film-he ain't great yet. That guy who did Incredible Hulk I don't like at all. And who knows what Cap will be like.

Hopefully they get someone dope to do a great 3rd Iron Man film, that can also deal with this continuity thing.

The real question is if Iron Man is really franchise material in the first place. Thinking

I'm not sure how I feel about this news. I loved the first Iron Man, but found the second to be a mess. I don't know how much of that mess I can attribute to Marvel Studios interference and how much I can attribute to Favreau.

Truth.  "Knocked it out of the park" takes some rose coloured glasses to pull off.  All there's really been are two Iron Man movies.  Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Incredible Hulk, and judging by the middling box office, I'm not alone in that.  They spent an extra $13mm on production, and netted only $2mm more domestically.  Worldwide was a slightly better picture, but with it still pulling in less than half what Iron Man did, with an arguably more recognizable character, it's less knocking it out of the park than it is a decent single, to stretch the metaphor.

I think Branagh is a great choice for Thor, and I'm interested to see the movie and see how it does, but it's still an unhatched chicken, as it were.  Joe Johnston has a pretty spotty record as well, and I say that as a guy who has liked a lot of what he has done, more often than not, but it's really going to take the next two years to really figure out what that batting average is.
