One informed source hears that he was frustrated with Marvel's urge to stuff more of their in-house heroes into the next film in the wake of The Avengers. In a recent interview with MTV News, Favreau explained that based on his conversations with Marvel Studios executives, he had no clarity as to what a third Iron Man film would even be about. “In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers,” said Favreau at the time, “This whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

I'm not too worried about it, lots of film franchises have successfully maneuvered through new directors. So far Marvel has knocked it out of the park with their self financed film slate, and that includes finding great directors.

Iron Man 3 might rock.
It just seems less likely now.
Still optimistic though, the franchise has a lot of inertia behind it.

At this point, we know less than nothing about what Iron Man 3 will (might) be. I'm all in favor of jumping to conclusions and all, but maybe it would be best to wait till a director is announced, or a basic plot or something before we start the naysaying.

Compared to what?
Fans' expectations  I liked both movies a great deal but I can see why others might not have. The second one could've been a little tighter but still a heck of a lot enjoyable than the average good guy vs bad guy superhero movie. I love Dark Knight to bits but I've seen the IM movies way more. |

That's not unexpected. Wasn't there reports of Favreau being unhappy about stuff while working on IM2? At this point, we know less than nothing about what Iron Man 3 will (might) be. I think we can all agree that it'll be Zach Snyder directing it. Dude's doing everything these days. No comparison. It just wasn't very good. Just ignore him David. He hates a lot of things. Especially fun. |

I actually agree with Deadcowarama on this one. Iron Man 2 was a mess. I don't blame the director though. There wasn't much story. There were a few good moments here and there, but overall, it was weak.
However, Iron Man 3 might be great. I don't think it really matters who is directing. It seems that most super hero movies live or die by the script.

I think Marvel in house movies will do fine. Maybe they were talking about including other characters that have appeared in the Iron man books. Maybe we get to see The Mandarin.  |
