Just saw these pics on the Huffington Post. Hope everyone is ok . There calling it a flood of Biblical proportions. An area the size of Germany and France combined. Wow. www.euronews.net/2011/01/02/australian-floods-claim-first-victim/

Yeah its messed up. I'm lucky I'm not in any of the flood areas but the weather is going crazy everywhere. It was blistering hot on Jan 1 (I think it was 43 degrees C in Adelaide) and now its like winter. Gotta love it

Yes summer in Australia. If its not bush fires then its floods. It looks to be only going to get worse as well with more rain incoming. Though I do not think I have noticed any of the Australians who post here are from the effected state of Queensland.

All good. Hasn't rained in nearly 2 weeks here in Newcastle. Queensland is copping a flogging though, and I just heard the roof of the cinema in Bathurst collapsed during a hail storm. No one was seriously hurt luckily. The weather is seriously f%$#ed-up atm.

There's a couple of us, though I'm in Brisbane, south and east of where it's flooding. Just lots and lots of rain here, damn sick of it but yeah, grateful it doesn't look like it'll flood here this time. I'm supposed to be traveling north at the end of this week but I'll have to wait and see if that'll be possible. Don't really want to go for the weekend and get trapped

She'll be right, mate. Now if they just had a grill out there and they were grilling up some burgers that would be a awesome picture.

Well. I guess it's lucky I have a fair bit of reading material at home. The floods have hit here in Brisbane and are reportedly going to be worse than the 1974 floods (which were bad). This pic was taken in '74 around the corner from where I now work. Doubt I'll be going to work for a while... Edit: also found this classic shot of the same pub...looks like the upstairs bar was still open

Man I can't believe they are getting worse. I wish yourself Rebecca and the other forum members from Qld all the best and your family and friends as well. I can't believe the power of the water and how quick it happens in this video.

I live in Melbourne and have only realised in the last few days how severe this is. My Wife and I are donating to the relief fund tomorrow. All the best to our QLD forum pals.

Thanks guys. It's been a crazy few days for Brisbane. Been *glued* to the news coming through via Twitter since Tuesday night. Trying to ease off it now. Have to say, this has been a time when social networking has been used for good Some smart person at Queensland Police set up a facebook/twitter feed to get info out and stop some of the rumours and mis-information being spread. I've been holed up on my hill for the past couple of days with not much else to do but wait. We went out yesterday afternoon and early this morning to have a look around our neighbourhood. We weren't hit nearly as hard as other suburbs. I liked this girl roaming about in her kayak though: My work is under water in the CBD with no word on when we'll be going back beyond 'perhaps sometime next week.' So far more thankful than I ever have been to work for the government! It's a small thing, but right now I'm mostly upset that I never got a chance to buy my partner a birthday present - it's his birthday tomorrow and I did have big plans. Oh well. Since he's a gamer maybe the best present I can give him is to let him sleep in and then play games alllll he wants

Thoughts with you Rebecca. It's crazy-town.
My workplace/office has raised 2 grand for the relief fund over two days, and that's ahead of a cake-drive/morning-tea tomorrow. And the company will match staff donations. Seems like everyone is digging deep.
At the same time, despite the tragedy of it all, I love seeing the Australian - or probably just human - spirit shine through. People resolving to rebuild, or giving up their time to help sandbag, or just managing to summon some humour or positivity through it all.
