The AMAZING Spider-Man [Rumors, Cast, News]

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was terrible...and way too LONG!!! The first 45 minutes dragged and for movie with the word "Spider-Man" in the title, there wasn't enough Spider-Man in it. The other thing that felt that was missing was New York City. NYC felt oddly sparse here. Where was everybody? At least with the Rami films it felt like Spider-Man was in a world that felt populated and that the city reacted to his presence. The film had some really terribly directed action scenes although I wasn't expecting much from this director. What I was expecting though, was some good character moments in it because I like what he did in "500 Days of Summer". Stone and Garfield were alright, but there was little for them to work with here and I didn't think there was much chemistry between them. I also thought the movie had very little heart or humanity to it. This is Spider-Man! There should be heart and heroics to a Spider-Man film with giant fun action sequences (like Avengers!). As bad as "Spider-Man 3" was, at least there were some big over the top action scenes. This felt like Spidey got "Nolanfied". Blech!

I didn't love the movie, but I thought it was a good start to a reboot. I thought the performances were excellent; much better than the first trilogy. That being said, I really wish this wasn't another origin story. I'm so sick of those in super hero movies. I thought the film was solid, but I'm really looking forward to sequels starring Garfield. I see more potential here.

This movie was far from perfect, but I found myself really enjoying the flick because it didn't have that Raimi feel. Raimi definitely did good by old webhead, but I've personally always found Raimi's style to be a little corny. I just really enjoyed seeing Spidey with a different tone. And maybe it's because I'm not married to the character, but I didn't mind a single change they made to the Spidey mythos. It feels like its borrowing from the Ultimate universe, while adding on some new stuff on top of that, which I'm cool with. 

Like others I left the movie really looking forward to what they do next. I like this cast overall much better than the last cast (thought I think Tobey was a fantastic Spidey/Peter Parker). I can't wait to see how this movie handles Osborn, the Buggle (if they do), and what other baddies they'll bring in.

I think this series won't kill everyone off, so we might get a sinister six?

Funny thing is most people won't take "Nolanfied" as an insult since so many think The Dark Knight is a far better movie than I do.I will say I went to see Amazing Spider-man with a large group of people.Only 2 of us where comic fans.Everyone one that wasn't like it better than Avengers.

okay, so here are my thoughts on amazing spider-man, i thought it was good. in general, i enjoyed it.
the good: andrew garfield and emma stone were both fantastic. this goes a long way in earning the movie points. i liked tobey maguire, and garfield is a different approach, but really great, he's got charisma and a lot of heart in his portrayal. and stone is obviously in a different league acting-wise than dunst. the fact that it was gwen stacy at all is good, even though she's in spidey 3, that doesn't really count. i've always liked campbell scott, so it was nice to see him briefly as peter's dad. the action was tight and pretty exciting. there was one moment in particular where my heart skipped a beat. it was also great to see peter developing the web shooters, but no real need to redo the whole origin, just replace the actors as needed and keep going. tighten it up. that brings me too....
the bad: tone felt off for me. they were definitely going for a more modern/edgy/batman begins kind of take, and i don't particularly feel like that works for spider-man. even the best modern spider-man comics have an air of levity and fun and campiness to them, and that's something that spidey 1 and 2 accomplished with aplomb. when garfield and stone weren't on screen the movie just felt kind of bland. i thought the lizard sounded horrible, and looked laughably bad. he looked like one of the koopa's from the mario brothers movie. google it. on the subject of sound, the score was terrible, intrusive and distracting at all the wrong times.

i guess that's it for now, i'd rank it spidey 2, 1, amazing, 3.

Maybe, but I don't think Spider-Man works as a dark character. His world can be dark, but he shouldn't be. Peter Parker is supposed to be a good kid that is imperfect, but heroic. The Peter Parker in this movie is a little douche bag.

I couldn't disagree more.He never came of as a douche bag to me.I thought he was a far more believable character than the 1st 3 movies.I thought this movie had far superior acting and characterization.

Instead of inventing the web shooters, he steals them, to talk to Dr. Connors he screws some Latino kid out of his internship (and doesn't seem to feel all that bad about it), you can argue that he really picked a fight with Flash in the basketball scene (which he gets called out on by Uncle Ben), hell, he even steals the milk from the guy who wouldn't spot him the .02¢.

I think he totally came across like a little self centered emo dildo. Maybe the Tobey Maguire was a little mopey at times, but the character didn't wallow in self pity like this one did.

I found the movie to be good, not great. The performances and special effects were great; the Lizard storyline was bizarre. I hope the next villain he faces is not in the crazy, "I have voices in my head" camp. I would hate for it to become the "thing" in Spider-Man movies the way every Batman movie, for some inexplicable reason, requires 2 villains. Both Batman and Spidey's rogues galleries are better than that.

The other commonality between Spider-Man and Batman is that both work better animated (Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman, Spectacular Spider-Man).

Now by no means will I say this movie is perfect or without flaw but I will say this is my favorite Spider-man movie done so far. First and foremost I am not a fan of the Sam Raimi spider-man movies so I was looking forward to someone else taking over the franchise,so im bias.The first thing that got me watching the film was the acting of Andrew Garfield who I think encompasses everything that makes the character of Peter Parker so endearing. He gave off the sense of loneliness,confusing,sadness,and socially awkwardness of early Peter Parker but at the same time the kindness,rebelliousness,and inner strength that makes him such a great crime fighter. Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben gave off the sense of strength and kindness that helped shape Peter into the great man he will become. Emma Stone was also spot on as Gwen Stacy. I think the script was weak on material for Aunt May played by Sally Field. Overall I think the story was entertaining and it kept me involved in the movie even though i felt it had too many slow moving scenes. This was definitely the kind of movie younger kids would enjoy like Avengers for example but its on the right track. Overall I think this movie is a huge step up from whats been done before.

I can see that this was a version of Spider-man. Ultimate Spider-Man because Peter wasn't stopping fights. He was getting beat up. This guy was a loner and Peter at least had Harry who wasn't in this movie and I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the next. Also, Peter was funny because he was nervous. This guy attempts to be funny  but I can see where his attitude would come off as an ass. But in the end, Italian Spider-man is the bigger Douche for smoking out and hitting the females.

Also, I wanna apologize to all the people who have not seen the movie because if I read this thread before I saw the movie I know I would be going in looking for all these things that were pointed out and probably not enjoy the movie as much as if I were oblivious. Some of us let out some key points and spoilers and that's not cool.
I do not apologize about Italian Spider-Man. He fought Luchadors and it looked cool before Batman stole the idea.
