This one shouldn't be too hard for people to identify with. Take your personal passion, and then imagine the LEGEND of said passion shitting in an indisputable way about anyone currently undertaking an effort to practice that passion.
Yeah, what he said. The Tiki

Because he's had such an important role in shaping generations of creators. This is personal for Aaron, because Moore isn't just some ethereal legend griping about the way things used to be, he's Aaron's inspiration, his hero, his impetus for doing this for a living.
It bothers him because it IS personal, to him.
Well I still say that he was taking a swipe at the creative practices of the company and not talent. If Moore does or ever did read Scalped (being a fan of the Wire and all) he would enjoy it immensely. Us? We'll just keep reading damn good comics regardless...

Did you read the article? When your hero tells you your work is sub par ( dismissing without even reading it) how do you expect him to react?
Like a professional, maybe?

The context in which Moore is saying there is sub-par creators is in regard to Gibbons telling him about how good "Watchmen" sequels and prequels are going to be. Moore doesn't respect the big two's work, that's no secret. There are plenty of works out there that have an Alan Moore blurb on the back cover. If you don't like Moore then keep writing "Scalped" and don't worry about being disrespected if you're doing good work. If you want to do "Watchmen 2" then go fuck yourself and hope Moore doesn't cast a nasty spell on your ass.

The Tiki Wow, have you ever heard the man talk? He's nothing like that at all. He's always been composed, articulate and intelligent.

I think having respect for Alan Moore's talent is one thing. Lying down to take a punch is not good though.

Well I still say that he was taking a swipe at the creative practices of the company and not talent. He specifically referred to the talent: "When Dave Gibbons phoned me up, he assured me that these prequels and sequels would be handled by ‘the industry's top-flight talents'. Now, I don't think that the contemporary industry actually has a ‘top-flight' of talent. I don't think it's even got a middle-flight or a bottom-flight of talent…" That's very clear. Regarding Aaron: I understand why he feels the way he does but why express it online, in a column, especially when the target of his anger will probably never see it? Jim

I agree with Jim. Aaron has every right to feel the way that he does (and I would probably feel the same), but expressing it in a CBR column is a little unprofessional (especially when he's got an exclusive with Disney Marvel and represents them as an employee). However, between Dan Slott's response to a poster recently and this incident, you can't say that people aren't talking about it. What's the old saying... "There's no such thing as bad press"?

I don't know how I would take it if THE legend of my passion in life told me I sucked; probably along the lines of what Aaron wrote. I don't know if I would have published this on the internet, but I can't really disagree with his sentiment.

I LOVE the work of both Jason Aaron and Alan Moore, and that will never change.
Jason Aaron comes across as a whiny bitch here. "Alan Moore made a stinky comment about me and my friends! Wah!" Grow the fuck up, dude. He's George Harrison to your Liam Gallagher right now.
And Alan Moore, love him as I might, is the eternal hypocrite. He constantly denigrates others for standing on his shoulders, but the majority of his output is based on plumbing the ideas of others. He made his name, like everyone else, working on intellectual IPs created by other guys... Miracle Man, Swamp Thing, Superman. Even Watchmen was based not-too-loosely on old Charlton characters (the irony there being that DC owns all those Charlton characters and has so little idea what to do with them, they want to do sequels to Watchmen with Moore's ripoffs... but that's another rant). And if there's a piece of 100+ year-old lit Moore hasn't raided for an idea, I haven't encountered it. The author of Lost Girls and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen lecturing the new crop of creators about coming up with their own characters is laughable.
Dem's my couple pennies.

Jebus, I took it personally. Moore is bashing creators that I idolize as well as the stories that I love. I agree with Moore that Watchmen prequels and sequels aren't needed but come on man. There's no need to be a dick to the guys working their asses off trying to make a living making comics. It might not have been the best idea for Aaron to publish this though. I agree with Jim. They aren't employees of Marvel though. Their exclusive contract is for freelance work. I LOVE the work of both Jason Aaron and Alan Moore, and that will never change.

Mark Waid: Thunderbolt’s mustache goes into the Negative Zone, where it enjoys its own separate adventures that will hopefully someday be told. Our Hulk needs no mustache. Muttonchops, perhaps.

I could be wrong but, I thought that Aaron had signed an exclusive with Marvel that gave him the ability to continue scalped, but everything else was Marvel exclusive. Doesn't that mean he draws benefits and everything else?

That's a clause in his contract. They're okay with him writing the critical darling Scalped for the Distinguished Competition because it makes him happy and cements his reputation as a top flight creator. Either way, it helps them sell books.

Wow... wouldn't it be cool if Aaron and Moore had a (beard vs. beard) match at WrestleMania and the loser had thier beard shaved? I might actually order that pay per view. Then again, I imagine that Jason Aaron would hit Brian Bendis over the head with a chair then turn heel and join Alan Moore's faction. The entire article being one big "swerve" from the beginning. sorry... The thread was getting waaaaayy to serious.

I kinda side with Aaron on this one. Alan Moore likes to go flinging around these vague things about how horrid the Big 2 are and he kinda hides behind the fact that he never says, "Bendis is a hack" or "Johns is a hack" and he kinda plays it off that he's merely referring the their corporate practices. As least Aaron has the decency to call the dude out by name.
I would love to see the end result of this being Aaron getting to write a Watchmen sequel where he gets to have his way with Moore's characters. I like the man's writing, but he's a windy old thing.
