Anyone here listen to WTF with Marc Maron?

What a GREAT show!  Wonderfully raw and honest.  I have been plowing through all 150 of his shows.  It's amazing how many big name comedians are comic book fans.

Big fan, I've been listening for about a year now and have almost never been let down.

Most episodes are Marc Maron (veteran comedian) sitting down and interviewing another comedian, or comedy writer for a very in depth and honest talk.  He's had some standout episodes with Gallagher (INSANE), Mencia and Dane Cook (they talked about joke stealing) and a great two-parter with Louis CK

Marc Maron is a 25 year vet of comedy.  He knows EVERYONE big and small who has stood on stage and tried to make the masses laugh.  Not only is the show ridiculously funny, it usually shows how simple people are.  Regardless of money or fame when you get them in a comfortable, safe environment they seem to let all the protective armor fall off and they all talk about their anxieties and fears.  It's fascinating.

Start by cherry picking people you are familiar with and I guarantee you will go back and and just start listening to them all.  

Wood, you know from the cons we have enjoyed together, there is nothing more than to hear peoples life experiences.  This is one of the best at filling that wonderful thirst.

It is definitely worth a try.

My first job when I moved from the 'Burgh to Chicago was as a bouncer at the Chicago Improv on Wells street (I know what your thinking... Tim was a bouncer?  That's a funny story for a night of a con).  I adored going out for drinks after a show every night.  It was fucking hilarious EVERY night.  You have know idea what it's like drinking with THAT many quick witted people.  Great times.  The funny thing is how many of those people actual made it (i.e. Amy Poehler and Matt Besser).

Shitty pay but great memories.

I like this one as well.  I missed some of the real early ones but I have listened to about 20 of them I would say.  I am trying to catch up.  He is good at getting people to open up to him.  If you like comedy, then I would suggest this.  He was on Air America for a time in the morning slot but his material is generally not political.  He digs comics as well.

But what do you guys think of it's theme song? I CAN NOT STAND IT!!!!!!!
I get the feeling that it's meant to convey some sense of minor "badass" rebellion, but I find that it to be flacid and genuinely shitty. It doesn't help that it is littered with Maron-isms (when left to himself, I can find Maron to be a tad obnoxious). I tend to fast forward through the first few minutes of the show.


*Sigh* I feel better having that off my chest. That bothered me more than I realized.

Great Podcast. I think Marc is a much better interviewer about comedy, then his actual stand up. He has found his niche.
 

I agree 110%.  He's better when he is conversational than when he has "prepared" material.

I've listened to Maron for little over a year but jumped off about a month ago.

He and Joe Rogan are supposedly going to guest on each others podcast so I may jump back on then.

I want to hear what Rogan has to say about the Mencia interview.

I just finished listening to episode 138, the Scott Carter episode. I am not a very religious person but his breakdown of religion and the bibles by Tolstoy, Charles Dickens and Thomas Jefferson was fascinating.

You are very kind.  Don't fool yourself though, my job IS sales.  The first rule of sales is trust.  If you don't trust the salesman... you will never buy the product.

I listened to the most recent episode of WTF because one of my favourite standup comedians, Mr. Paul F. Tompkins, was featured on it.  I thought it was a really good episode, interesting to have an interview with standup comedians about their life and their craft.  I wasn't necessarily blown away by Mark Maron, but I think I will go back and listen to some of the other episodes, particularly the ones that the Tiki (all honour and glory to his funky ways!) recommends.

A recent favorite for me! Very entertaning and funny, yet therapeutic. I especially enjoyed the Judd Apatow interview, and Henry Rollins. I hope the early ones would be available free, two bucks for an episode is too much for me...

You could circumvent that price by buying the app and then subscribing for a month (.99 cents)?  I look forward to hearing the famous Carlos Mencia 2 parter.

I haven't heard the Henry Rollins one yet, but the Judd Apatow 2 parter was awesome.  2 episodes wasn't enough.  I just started the Robert Cordry episode, he is one twisted individual.

That guy was very interesting. This interview wasn't really humorous, but it was the kind of in-depth interview of an interesting person (who I had no idea existed before listening) that makes things like Charlie Rose so enjoyable to me.
