Not sure how many folks from the old Bullpen Bulletins days may remember this, but we had a thread set up (started by Miguel, I believe) where you could suggest (or recommend) a collected edition that you want to read (or have read) and if anyone else wanted to read it, a chain was formed.  So if Slick, Junior, and Sport wanted to read The Nightly News, once it's obtained they spend some time and read it, then mail it to the next one on the list.  Lather, rinse, repeat.

Would anyone be interested in doing this?  It's listeners/forum members maintained, which I think went pretty well last time.  And it's a way to try something where the only thing you pay for is postage.  Which I think is why it was mostly trade paperbacks, to cut down on weight on not worry about any nicks and dents.  At one point I think notes, sketches, doodles, and the like were scribbled inside at least one trade.

So this will either die a quick, quiet death or it'll have legs.  We'll see.

Okay, so who wants to start it?  After I posted this last night, two scenarios popped into my head.  One is where someone has a trade that others want to read and starts the chain.  The other is a trade that someone purchases, say from Amazon or DCBS or InStockTrades, but has it shipped to the first person on the chain and the final stop is where the purchaser resides.

But still, whatever, however y'all want to do this.

Any thoughts on what the first book should be?

I don't mind starting it. I can grab the book the extra cheap or maybe even pick up a damaged copy for even less.

I don't know of anything to start out with off the top of my head, but I'm open to just about anything

Fear Agent? Nobel Causes? Dynamo 5?

or going mainstream?

Booster Gold? A Crisis of some sort? Daredevil?

Or old school?

An archive, essential, etc?

Those are all pretty good suggestions. Are those okay with everyone? I thought I would try to grab two or three tomorrow and go from there

I think an Archive or Essential could be fun but I don't think we should start with one because they tend to be pretty long. I suggest starting with something a little shorter so we can get things moving.

I've read Fear Agent but Nobel Causes, Dynamo 5, Booster Gold or Daredevil (are we talking about Brubaker's DD or something else?) would all be fine with me.

A few more suggestions (comics I've always been interested in but haven't read—maybe that will be true for everybody):

Blue Beetle (the latest incarnation)
Nova (ditto)
Stray Bullets
Queen and Country
Dr. Strange: The Oath
Rex Mundi
The Invisibles

I'm willing to send out the first four trades of Rex Mundi...

I guess I have one question...are the trades going to make their eventual way back to the owner? I'm guessing that's the idea, right?

...i think it would be good to have mulitple books going at the same time, otherwise the thread (and therefore possibly the idea itself) would be stalled for large chunks of time as people are reading the trades at various individual speeds.

Also, I accidentally bought an extra copy of the MADMAN & THE ATOMICS trade, as I've recently picked up nearly all things Madman to give it a try....  cool stuff.   I'd be happy to send out this trade to bounce around the masses with the frequency of a cheap ham radio.  So add it to the official list.

I've never read either Exterminators or Scalped...  I'll have to get on that chain if it gets going Smiley
