We continue to follow our strong, true purpose and delve ever deeper into The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter on this week's episode of The Bookhouse Boys, seeking to answer questions about Biff's sordid past and his increasingly confused present, what the heck Singer sees in his sweaty Greek friend, and what exactly happened in the grass on the bank of that pond, wink wink, nudge nudge.   There's even a little dream interpretation and future forecasting in there, no doubt aided by Dave's flu-induced hallucinations.

Yea, it's a good un!

I admit I am behind in this section, but the exposition on Singer and Dr. Copeland is spot on.  I felt relieved in a way for Dr. Copeland after his Christmas oratory but also feel bittersweet because I don't know if it did any good.

I wanted to go a little more into the significance of Copeland's deaf and mute namesake dying, but it slipped my mind (I was drinking for 2).

Open questions to the group:

Biff - Pedophile or no?
Singer - Why Antonapoulos?
Copeland - Is happiness possible?
Mick - Kid or adult?
Blount - What is his journey?

Do I get to answer these? I'm only a few pages into the last section.
Biff- I don't think we're going to get this answer. Or, rather, I don't think we'll see him act if he is a kiddie-fiddler
Singer- We've talked about this on the show, but I think you nailed it. He's Singer's Singer. He dressed him in the raiment of Solomon and, while being completely aware of A's mental...shortcomings, still takes A's bland smiles as understanding. It's like if you took a picture of any person and showed it to someone and said, 'this guy cut up 6 families' you'd probably hear, 'Sure he did! Look at that maniacal look in his eyes!' If you said that the person built a children's hospital with his bare hands with paper route money, they'd say, 'Look at the gentleness in those eyes! He must be a philanthropist!" He's the hyperbole of Singer's situation...
Copeland- No. He's a man who needs a full revolution to be pleased with his work, and the world only works in one-degree shifts (and it loathes giving those up)
Mick- She's been laid and she's seen her dad as a human being. Aren't those the 2 markers for adulthood?  Wink
Blount- He's on Copeland's path, but he's more volatile. I see terrible violence in his future. I don't know whether he's dealing it or receiving it, though.

Good thoughts...

I've finished the book, but I'm keeping mum.  Shifty Eyes

Jeez, guess I need to finish this book or something.   Looks like a good read.

We don't mention daily news much or fads during the show (except for Jason's vocoder-laden and erotically charged "SHEEN!" song) so these should age like wine. That's one of the main differences between The Bookhouse Boys & Leno (oh, and our name doesn't mean "pimp" in Latin).

On another note, I callously skipped over one of my co-hosts when doing the drink roll call. What were you drinking, Jason? Moxie? Big Red? Surge?

Big Red?   I imagine a soda that tastes like Cinnamon.

It's actually a variation on cream soda. It's pretty damned good, too. I have a soft spot in my heart for the drinks that were, in my region, the oddball sodas: Big Red, Green River, Vernor's, et al.

I like those.  Fred Meyer has a pretty big selection of oddball sodas these days and I'll grab two or three different ones when I go there, just to try something different.

I was drinking mango green tea, since ya asked.  Wink

As long as your knitting doesn't interfere with the discussion of the book, it's no skin off my nose...  Evil

There's nothing wrong with knitting...but Jason does it smothered in FDS while wearing a peignoir.
