I just saw the trailer and it looks amazing! It has the feel of a Miyazaki movie.

Oh man I just posted a talk up of 7 billion Needles, I missed this.
Any of you guys seen Magical Shopping Arcade Abonabashi?
It is seriously one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I also thought it had a nice little story to it as well.

It's cool man just post a link. It was a very good review. I'm definitely gonna have to check it out. I've never seen Magical Shopping Arcade Abonabashi in full; though I have seen the trailer for it. I thought it looked pretty cool.

I'm really loving Durarara by the way. Any of you guys seen that? Its only 24 episodes but me and the missus seem to be watching it at a rate of once every month. We started last year and we're only up to episode 15. I think part of me doesn't want to see it end which is why we haven't finished it yet. Its not one of those shows where its 'to be continued' at the end of every episode, I get a meaty story every episode. I fell in love with Japan when I went there last year and watching Durarara reminds me a little of what I felt when I was there. Here's the blurb for it on Wikipedia (which really doesn't do it justice): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durarara!! The series is about a Dullahan working as an underworld courier in Ikebukuro, an internet-based anonymous gang called Dollars, and the chaos that unfolds around the most dangerous people in Ikebukuro.Maybe don't read too much of the Wikipedia entry so you don't spoil things for yourself. Just watch the first episode and see if its your cup of tea. There is an overall story but each episode can work on its own which is great because I really dislike anime where its basically one story told in 24 parts. The characters are very interesting and not so much like the typical anime characters. Its nice to have it set in present day Tokyo and have the setting be (mostly) realistic. It feels like life in Tokyo peppered with some underworld elements and a little bit of Celtic mythology. I think its one of the better anime series in recent memory in terms of storytelling. And this is coming from a guy who compares everything to Bebop. That's my measuring stick.

i'll be perfectly honest, my exposure to anime/manga has been very limited, i've seen ninja scroll, akira, ghost in the shell, cowboy bebop, and a fair amount of the miyazaki films. and only just today did i read the first volume of pluto. all those were good, but past that, i can't say anything.

Satoshi Kon: Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent, Tokyo Godfathers, Millenium Actress, Paprika... some of the best anime ever made, with real heart and soul, rather than just cliche.

Yep, he was one of my favorites. I'm due for a personal Kon film festival.

I thought Sword of the Stranger was a bit better than Ninja Scroll. It's more or less the same thing without all the skeevy bits . I also loved Redline. I thought it was just "really good" until the last 30 or so minutes. I love the goofy ending. What a classic. Summer Wars was also fantastic. I love the wonderful characters. Probably the best thing I've seen for the past few years.

Personally as my interest in manga has grown my general interest in anime has completely died. Also the manga boom of the early 00s probably ended up hurting the official release of stuff in the future. Those companies (except it seems for Vertical who is doing all the Tezuka stuff), have become so conservative in the long run which is such a shame and I want to support the books but it is still not at the point where I will buy things I can't read.
Also one thing I have noticed is that manga artists are much better at realizing that there is 360degrees to every scene and you can draw it from any angle, they are also so fantastic of leading your eye and making visceral action scenes. Which coming into NA comics through manga it really shines a light on how terrible 90% of the fight scenes are in modern superhero comics.

I also like it when they're drawing things like it was a picture that was taken from a different kinda lens, like an ultra wide angle lens or a fisheye lens. And yes, I loooove the fight scenes.
