It made me smile. I enjoyed it. A very quick read. Picked up a few of the old marvel issues at Wildpig.

So for those of you who didn't like it, what was it?  I am just curious.  The book was pretty lighthearted and made me laugh.  I didn't take it very seriously but it tickled me in the way Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark did.

I felt like I could have read it for free in Previews.
Godzilla works best as a slow burn (no pun intended) - you gotta set up why we care about these people getting killed.  Or, just make it a comedy. Powell tried the latter, and it fell flat on its face.

I just felt there was no narrative or plot to it. Rather it was just a series of non-sensical jump cuts. Minimal word balloons, very little in the way of panel borders made it an artists playground. Howeverm It just seemed that one second he appears for no reason eating two schoolkids, next second they are nuking him (seemed a bit quick on the trigger there) then he was destroying Tokyo and every few seconds someone goes "You have to be &**&^ing kidding me". Give me some plot and characters please. On the Plus side ..Godzuki didn't make an appearance.

Same here.  I loved the old Godzilla movies & even some of the previous comics series, but this one just fell flat for me.

That can happen to me, but I don't think that was it, in this case.

I think Lucien sums up a lot of my misgivings very well.....

Yeah I guess that is where I differe from others.  I am certainly a fan of the movies but did not even consider that reading this book since I assumed it would be different. But I completely understand where everyone is coming from.  It was campy and hack jokey (if that is a word/term) and I guess that is what cracked me up.  It doesn't take itself to seriously and I guess I didn't either.  But I really didn't go into this expecting a whole lot, I like Godzilla and monsters in general and like both of the creators and thought I would give it a try.  As with most comedy, it either hits you or it doesn't.  I related it to Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark, even though I think that book was better, it had that same feel to me.

I read it a little a while ago , before even looking at this thread. Thought I was going to come on  here, and be alone on this, but I did not enjoy this anywhere near what I had hoped. The human characters were not set up much, and I also did not like the art style used, as it does not make godzilla as fearsome as he should be.

Overall was a average start.  I was expecting maybe too much with the first issue.  Thought the artwork was great and Godzilla was incredible but I wish there was more story.  The issue was very quick and didn't have any other characters included that might play a role in it.  I did enjoy the running joke.  I will give it another issue for it to hook me.

Same here, I just finished it this afternoon and really was not impressed. Took me all of about 10 minutes to get through and that was with looking through it twice to see if I missed anything. There was no story that would compell me to see what happens next. .. in fact there wasnt much story at all. I understand that the beauty of Godzilla is that he's a cool monster that destroys things. But there needs to be something worth investing emotion into. May that be the monster of the resistance, neither was represented in this book well. If you just want to show a monster destorying things, take a look at Big Guy and Rusty. There was so much awesome destruciton in that book that the panels were alive with devistation by a Godzilla type monster. The destruction scenes in this book were mediocer at best and I know Hester can do better. I orderd the first few through DCBS but Im holding future orders untill I read them. Ill hope for the best.

Possibly a victim of expectations?

Not for me. I have no experience of real fondness for early Godzilla. Except the movies I watched as a kid, the comics werent at my disposal.
