ok just lost my mind a bit. went to my LCS to pick this up, and the owner gave me a deal i couldn't refuse:
thor simonson omnibus thor kirby omnibus thor jms omnibus
all in including taxes- $170!!!
Thor's about the only marvel character that i don't have any trades or issues of... talk about jumping in with BOTH feet!!!
ps checked my simonson book for duplicated pages, but appears fine. art looks great in the slightly oversized format

damn, that is a fantastic deal! and 3 totally different takes on the character from the beginning, middle and most recent periods in history. not related in content, but reminds me of when my lcs owner gave me 40% off of starman omni's 2, 3, and 4 as long as i bought all 3.

I got mine today. This book is heavy.
I sat down to read it after dinner in my favorite chair and I think the book put a dent in my balls. I read the first issue and my hand went numb from the shear weight of the book.
I love the new coloring. My originals are so washed out.
I kinda wish they did this in two volumes to make it a more comfortable reading experience.

I'm about 200 pages in and I'm really enjoying this. I'd heard how good the Simonson run is for a long time, but I've never read any of it before. It's just a fun read. The recoloring really takes this book to the next level though. I think this is my favorite omnibus so far.
One thing I have found interesting, Beta Ray Bill is not a robot, but a soul put into the robot body. I had always thought he was an artificial lifeform, at least that's how I'd understood it in all of his apperances I had read.

Its in my hot little hands. Upon opening it I felt like this: "it goes on forever and oh my god its full of stars...." The coloring, my god the coloring. That alone gets it 5 stars in my book. Its amazing. It allows me to enjoy Simonson's line art soooo much more. So much so in fact I think I can talk myself out of spending the $100 on the IDW Artists Edition now. The total package is amazing. My bind is great, tight, and strong. Opens nicely with no bowing. And on first pass of a 15 minute read I didnt have to much criticism of the size/weight reading it on my lap. I'll say it again. I can forgive Marvel 1200 pages to get everyting in one volume (two 600 page Omnibi spread out over multiple solicits would have been underkill and felt a little rip-offy like the Secret Wars omnibus at under 500 pages) . Just amazing. Have I mentioned the coloring? Oh and the page type/weight choice was perfect. A nice hefty low gloss/matte type page let the colors show true and eliminated that fake glare feeling that you get when you are reading a glossy production of a comic that was orginally released on newsprint. To me this outshines last years amazing Wednesday Comics HC. Cause all that did was produce large, this Thor omnibus was a labor in production in so many ways and I say hats off to Marvel. Now get to work on the next great thing...

I finally caved and ordered this, even though I like the Thor character more in principle than in practice, because everybody seems to love it so much and also because it's such a reasonable price for so much content. I'm really looking forward to my first Omnibus.

I'm only a few issues in and I love it! Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder rock. I know everyone has gushed about the coloring, but your haven't seen nothing until you burn one and then read this.

Im only 12 issues away from being done!
I loved when Thor goes to Hel to rescue the human souls, thats story with the Exicutionar is great. There was one panel that left me wondering though. Issue #361, page 584 in the Omnibus panel 4. Clearly theres an X-men sneakign around .... who and whats up with that?

Good spotting, clearly an X-person. Does someone know who it is and what it is referencing?

I haven't gotten to the panel you are referencing yet, but theare was an X-men/New Mutants crossover called Asgardian Wars. Maybe that is it?

has anyone heard that Marvel is doing recoloring work (like they did with the Thor Omnibus) with other planned omnibi?
Cause if so I may be onboard for stuff that I already have collected (like the Byrne F4 run)....

I really wanted this but I've never read it before and it had too hefty of a price tag. I may try out some of the Simonson Thor stuff digitally and then maybe rethink this purchase, but 169$?!? Yikes
