Nice! Which page did you get?

It's page 18 from issue 4.  They took the image down or I'd post it.  It's the one that shows One-Eye getting fed that little chick/embryo thing by the sexy swamp lady.

And...to the point of the size of the original art market....  There is a LOT of money slooshing around, but a lot of these pages sit for years.  Especially the ones that aren't awesome.  Like, you could go buy a page from early issues of Planetary right now today.  But, all the ones with good pictures of Jakita Wagner, Elijah Snow and the Drummer together are LONG gone.

And some pages go super fast.  In Dean's Big Day of Spending Too Much Stinking Money on Art, I also bought a page from Terry Dodson out of Uncanny 535 before he put it on his site.  I knew I wanted a page from him drawing Emma or Kitty, I knew he was drawing this arc and when I saw the page, I said, "That's it....that's the page I want" and emailed him.  Done and done.

I seriously doubt original comic art sales move at anywhere near that pace. If they do, it would be staggering! I'm betting there are plenty of artists who still have pages they drew years ago and not because they weren't interested in selling them.

Jim

So if the production of art far outpaces the consumption......how big of an art "backlog" is building up every month of unsold pages?   And then, at what point will an artist lower their prices to reduce their backlog?

I guess my point is......

If I see a page that I absolutely love & must have (my favorite page by an artist or one that made a particular impression on me) then pulling the trigger ASAP makes sense.

If that is not the case & I just want to some day have a page by a particular artist, then I have no sense of urgency to snap up just some random page that I like right now.

This will vary by person & by how much they admire a particular artist & by how much expendable cash they have laying around.

I bought one. Wish I had the link to show it, though.

I usually could care less about original art, but Stokoe is the dude. That guy is on some next shit. 150.00 for a page of that is totally worth it.

If I wasn't a broke college student right now, I'd be all over this. Stokoe is producing some of the best art in American comics right now IMO.

If one of the bunch I like is still available next month , I will pick it up. Or just wait for more from the upcoming issues .

Of course....that is the rational way to look at it.  But, what fun is that?  Smiley

For me, it's the double page splash of the Orc King in his hall. I want those pages badly, but $400 is too rich for my blood.

Just curious if any of the other buyers of Stokoe pages actually have them in their hot little hands.  I don't and before I bitched, I wanted to check with the forum.  Smiley

Seriously considering getting into to original art collecting.  Some James Stokoe would be a great start to the collection.

Bought one, forgot to link it before I purchased though (doh!)  I'll through up a hi-res scan when I get it.

I completely agree, btw, $ 150.00 for a fully rendered, lettered page of Stokoe's quality is a fairly good deal.

Don't know anything about the title or creator (that I can recall) but for sure these pages do not fall under the category of OA that doesn't impress. These are nice and if I dug the work I'd definitely feel good about the product and prices.

Cool beans.  It is actually a good thing, because as I recall I bought 3 pages that one week and those always raise the lovely spouses eyebrows when it seems like the mailman is leaving daily deliveries.  Nice to spread them out a bit....
