i think you guys are looking too far into the influence of the after credits scene on the whole film.  i think it's just to show us that
loki
is still out there and will be wreaking further havoc.   i think you're over analyzing.

Perhaps. So what did you think?

Was he possessed by Loki or was Loki just there at the meeting?

Or it doesn't matter?

i think he was under loki's influence at that moment, but i don't think they're implying at all that he was under influence the whole time, or loki was able to put people under his influence the whole time, it seemed like loki showed up, and took control.  kind of like "check it out dudes, loki is badass and can do crazy stuff."  if he were under influence the whole time they would've shown hints to that along the way, like a mirror shot like in the post-credits.  more than likely, loki's "death" enabled him to do some funky shit.

I agree although during the first few seconds after I saw it I did think it might've been possible that
he was Loki the whole time. But it didn't add up for me. By the way, was it just me or did his head seem weird? My cinema was a little dark so I couldn't tell for sure but his head seemed weird.

no i agree, he had some frost giant-y darkness around the edges of his face, implying evil  Evil

Yeah, I agree it might be over analysing...

I do find it quite interesting though.  If he is possessed, by not showing any blatant clues during the film, people who didn't wait for the credits scene see one film but people who do see the end of creates scene see a different film.  I kind of like that idea.  Using the end of credits scene, scenes that are usually throw aways or teasers, as something that fundamentally changes one aspect of the story is quite cool.

Also think they did a good job of getting someone huge to be Thor.  Hemsworth looks like he's 6'3" and about 250 and because of that he doesn't look like a moron in the armor.  Although he is going to make Robert Downey and Jeremy Renner look like little guys in the Avengers movie.  Even Chris Evens isn't going to look that big anymore.  They'll have to be careful how they film it.

As he should. As long as he's not towering over Hulk, all is well.

And...one final thing.  I loved how they didn't end with a cliched big fight.  Iron Man established how cool Iron Man was and then had him fight the Iron Monger who was just like Iron Man....but BIGGER.  Hulk established how cool Hulk was and then had him fight Abomination who is just like Hulk....but BIGGER.  I hate those fights: Good guy gets pounded on, has to dig deep for some reason, bad guy monologues, etc., etc.  So nice to see a movie go a different direction.

Excellent point.

Didn't anyone think
the guy Thor was mudfighting with was Luke Cage?  That was like a videogame boss-fight, he looked JUST like him (sorry Old Spice Guy) and I think he had more screentime than Hawkeye.

Didn't even occur to me. I think SHIELD is the wrong context for that character.

That scene did have me scratching my head. Who was that person supposed to be? Any other ideas?

SHIELD might be the wrong context, but The Avengers is the perfect context.  I won't be surprised if when The Avengers movie hits the screens, they trot this guy out and introduce him as "the guy that almost kicked Thor's ass".  Cheesy

i saw it again last night, i still think it's awesome.  and now i've seen it in 3d, and 2d, and 2d is definitely better.  much clearly, much easier to make sense of the action scenes.

I saw it in 2D but my cinema projected it a little dark Sad I wanted to watch it again but I think I'll just wait for the bluray.

Saw it today. I fell asleep after about 15 minutes  Whaaaat. I think my lady kinda liked it though. We saw it in 2d so at least it was a $6 nap and not a $10 nap.

One thing I realized: I always wantd to see the Marvel Universe in movie form. I wanted to see the kind of casual crossover that occured in the 1960's comics, where Thor could run into the X-Men or the Fantastic Four. As it turns out, I think that has hamstrung the Marvel movies. It sent Jon Favreau running to other projects where he could have more control. What has the Marvel Universe approach to the movies gotten us? Cameos by a show-stoppingly boring pseudo-Agent Sitwell. A not-quite cameo by Hawkeye. For all the freedom the Marvel Universe approach takes from the directors, thus weakening the films, it hasn't really given us anything in return. I want to see Dr. Strange show up, or Cap, or the Hulk. We shouldn't have to wait for the Avengers movie for that kind of stuff. If the crossovers are just Agent Sitwell interrogating Thor, or Nick Fury sharing a donut with Tony Stark, they're just wasting screen time and have outlived their usefulness.

I like how S.H.I.E.L.D. is turning into the men in black. I took my kids to see the movie today and we all enjoyed it. I think all of us liked Iron Man better, though. Three of us are excited for Green Lantern after seeing the preview and there was very little interest in Captain America.

Praise: I love how they presented the Asgardians as technologically advanced.
Complaint: I think there should have been more battles and less love interest.

I'm glad that general internet complaints about the casting of a black man in the role have subsided. As its pointed out they are other-dimensional beings and not Norse gods so this argument doesn't make sense anyway.

But is the film racist? There's only one black character and he plays a security-guard/doorman!

Actually off hand I remember three. The guard thor fights by the hammer, another Agent, and Heimdall.

Ummmm, you can say they're from another dimension, but there's no way around that fact that the Asgardians ARE Norse Gods. Google

I meant Heimdall: he's effectively just a guard rather than a major player in the films version of Asgard. And yes on reflection there are other minor black characters.

Also the film is at pains to say they are not gods in this version but were mistaken as such by Vikings.

Allow me to disagree, good sir.  One Wave

It does make that implecation, but I found it was at pains to make sure they didn't say they were aliens.  They said enough for us to come away with the idea, and never said "Yes, we are gods" but they never said "Yes, we are aliens" either.

Also, I thought Heimdall, the guy who allows major plot points to advance by disobeying Loki-king, was a major character.  If not for his choices and his duty, Thor would never have known Loki lied to him and the Warriors Three would never have gone to Midgard.

If Heimdall was a character invented for the movie, I would think it was a subtle racist move, but ol dude is an actual part of Norse mythology predating even America, and all that time he's a white Norse guy.  Lastly, there was nothing in the way Idris Elba performed the role that said "I'm just a doorman."  I can tell you, I respected him in the role infinitely more than, say, Chris Tucker's portrayal in The Fifth Element.  Sometimes a black actor does his skin color proud, and sometimes it just comes across as buffoonery to me. This time, I found no buffoonery in sight.

ps; I believe the black guy who put the whoopin on Thor near his hammer was Luke Cage.  Cheesy
