Should've seen Fast and Furious instead? Yeah, I'm sure no one in that movie has half the body that Thor does. The scene where Hemsworth has his shirt off got a big "whoaaaa" from the crowd (even though a lot of them were dudes). My wife was heartbroken when she found out he was married to some Spanish celebrity who she deems to be unworthy of him Tongue

I caught the 2D showing by the way, maybe that's why it didn't fill up. Did you see it in 3D? And if so, did it look cool whenever the hammer came out of the screen?

The trailer for Cap played before the movie and it looked amazing. Hopefully it draws in the crowds.

I just spoiled the after credits scene to someone else so here it is in case anyone's interested.

Last chance to back out of this.
Natalie Portman's scientist friend goes down some dark underground place who he refers to as "quite a labyrinth" to someone off screen. Of course, by the sound of his voice, we know its Sam Jackson. He thought he was sent there to be killed but apparently SHIELD was impressed by his research. The scientist guy mentions the gateway to another dimension (Bifrost) and he says "it's unprecedented... isn't it?" Then Fury says:

"Legend tells us one thing, history... another. But every now and then we find something that belongs to both."

He opens up a suitcase then BAM! There's a glowing cube with wires hooked up to it. Scientist asks "what is it?" and Fury says it's unlimited power if they can tap into it.

And here's the kicker: the camera focuses on the reflection in the mirror where the scientist is and Loki walks into frame. He says "well I guess that's worth a look" and then the scientist says "well I guess that's worth a look" WTF?!?!?

They should release Thor on May 5th which is on a Thursday, if you can get the reference. And would make for a nice Cinco De Mayo.   Yes

I caught a 2d Screening of Thor today, short answer, I loved it!
It also passed the wife test, for obvious...more pectoral....reasons.. but she also loved the whole movie too.

Hemsworth has proved he has the chops to carry the movie. Both in terms of physicality and emotional range.

loved natalie portman (as i always do) because she seemed to be enjoying herself. hemsworth was pretty good too. all round action/adventure fun and makes me look forward to cap and avengers!

I went out of my way to find a 2D session. It didn't seem the kind of movie where 3D would add much to it. Though maybe the parts where they're flying through space would've looked cool. A friend of mine is coming from the UK in a couple of weeks and she wants to see it in 3D, so I might see it again then and be able to compare the two.

I kinda wanna see the hammer come out of the screen to hit me in the face Tongue But overall, I don't wanna pay extra to get headaches. The cinema I watched it in was a little too dark. Apparently some of the smaller cinemas don't run their projectors at 100%. Looking forward to seeing this on bluray.

Ok received the Simonson Omnibus yesterday and went to see the movie a couple of hours ago. How was it...not a contender for an oscar, but awesome none the less.

When you see Thor, the Warriors three, Sif and Loki take on the Frost Giants at the start of the movie, you will have a smile on your face for two hours. Enjoyed it immensely and will go for a return viewing.

See it. It is totally fun!  Thumbs Up

P.S. Don't forget to stay for the end credits.

Saw it tonight and loved it.

Surpassed my expectations as I didn't think Thor would work onscreen.

Brannah gives it a kind of Shakespearean feel which seems to benefit the mythos.

Not sure if it is a reflection of the whole of the UK, but a Sat night prime time showing there was only 10 people in the showing.

Friend of mine went to see this the other night. I wasn't sure if she'd like it - she's picky about her superheroes - but she loved it.

She said she went in expecting it to be a bag of 'meh', knowing nothing about this Thor guy beyond that he went around with a hammer.

She came out a total convert ("Thor is awesome!"). She especially liked how funny it was
"give me whichever one of those is big enough for me to ride"

Will she run out and read the comic though? Highly unlikely.

Quote
Kenneth Branagh kicked the 2011 superhero season off with a bang with the release of Marvel Studios' Thor this past weekend, with the Chris Hemsworth-starrer thundering to the top of the UK box office chart with £5.4m including £2.3m from midweek preview screenings. Thor claims the crown exactly one year after the release of Marvel's last superhero effort Iron Man 2, which opened with £7.66m including previews.

It will be interesting to see what the USA figures are come next week.

I cant wait to see this. Me and my other half are actually having a weekend get away this weekend (ruining Thor and Free comic book day Wink) which is all good. I am trying to convince her to go to the Thursday night midnight showing we shall see.

about 2 hours and counting until I get to see the movie.  Between Thor: TMA, the Simonson Omnibus, I just reread the Ages Of Thunder tpb the other day I'm really excited to see this.  Maybe even more so than Cap (which still looks great so far).

Speaking of Cap, I wonder how this past weekend's news will affect the box office? I hope it does well.

What I'm really excited about is X-Men First Class. If anyone has yet to see the theatrical trailer, do eet now!

i thought this was fantastic fun.  the cast was all spot on, pretty much every actor embodied the character and really portrayed them exactly like i expected, from fandral laughing in the face of danger to loki's inherit dishonesty and selfish whining.  they really went full on with the action scenes, they didn't shy away from the hammer spinning and the flying, and we've all seen the scenes in the trailer of thor throwing mjolnir and it returning to him.  basically, all the things they could have avoided to try and keep thor more "grounded" or whatever they embraced and really made it a true fantasy movie (they somewhat changed one thing, but it worked, and no, not heimdall being black). all the costuming  and asgard looked awesome and shined in true jack kirby science fiction/magic glory.  all the production design was great and very fitting of the atmosphere.  oh, and it's really funny.  which is good, because dark and grim is not where a movie like this should live.

I enjoyed it quite a bit.  It's hard to compare it to Iron Man. In some ways it fits in nicely with the mythology they are building.  In other ways it's very different.

The sound design in this movie rocked the house.  The Destroyer came across way better than I thought they'd be able to pull it off in a movie.

Idris Elba was the effing man as Heimdall.  Wasn't really feeling Ray Stevenson's Volstagg.
