A while back I got a chance to read the Shazam showcase and loved it  (C.C. Beck is amazing) and so I've been thinking of picking this up recently, but I really know nothing about it and haven't gotten a chance to skim through one yet.  I figured I would check with everyone here on the forum.  Has anyone read it?  Is it worth picking up?

If you're interested in reading more Captain Marvel stories, no. This is a collection of memorabilia.

I agree with Koete.  You'd be much better off looking for one of the DC Archives of the old Fawcett stuff.  I've got the 2nd volume (my LCS was selling a bunch of Archives for 10 bucks, so I was all over it!) and it's crazy fun.  If you enjoyed the Showcase stuff, you'll dig the Archives.

I have
"Shazam: The Greatest Stories Ever Told"
          "First Thunder: Shazam and Superman"
           "Trials of Shazam 1-2"
"Shazam The Monster Society of Evil"

Where else would I go for modern Shazam stories?  I've heard JSA.

Is there a "go to" Capt. Marvel story or trade?  Something like "Dark Knight", "Born Again", "All-Star Superman", but for Capt Marvel?

That would be the original "Monster Society of Evil," which is unfortunately out of print.
