- I wasn't a Kirby fan until fairly recently.

- Joe Kubert & Alex Toth are my 2 favourite artists.

- I loved Star Wars as a kid but now think Star Trek is just as good if not a bit better.

- Firefly is the best Sci-fi series I've seen. Criminally short. It was second best until BSG ended the way it did.

- I'm Australian and prefer to watch NFL and MLB than cricket and Rugby League. What the hell is wrong with me?
Five times, five times, five times, five times, five times I give the karma to you.

As for me, I think Alan Moore is overrated.

I love John Romita JR art to which I wish he penciled All-Star Superman because I don't like Quietly's art and then I might actually read it.

I love VinceB, DAP, Wood, and drunken up Chris.  Hearts

- i really enjoyed the ray stevenson punisher movie.  it was ridiculous, and terrible at times, but a dude gets stabbed in the eye with a chair.
Kiss
I think it's criminal that there's been no kisses coming legionofdaves way for this comment.
Grant who?
Ditko what?

If you don't like reading books that make you think, then chances are you're probably not very smart.

When I say a book isn't for everyone, that's a nice way of saying you're never going to understand it so don't bother.

If you think I have a lot of comics on my shelves, you should see my hard drive.

Final Crisis and Seven Soldiers of Victory are two of the best superhero comics ever written.

Kick me motherfuckers.  Evil

Oh, and to rub a little hot sauce into the butthurt, two of these are true.

Although I've been one to comment on Bendis has neither been here or there the last while (how can you write your best when you are doing 12 titles a month) I think Johns has been phoning it in for about a year.

 Shocked

Dude. Ok I will admit to enjoying NFL over league, but damn man. Cricket is the greatest game on earth. No other sport has ever had the effect of keeping me on the edge of my seat for 5 days straight, every god damn ball! The tension man!

And I loved the end of Battlestar too.

  • Of all the shared universes in the world of comics, the Wildstorm universe I find the most intriguing
  • Casonova was awesome, everything fraction has written at Marvel has been average at best

Shit, is that a requirement? Honestly, I didn't read the first page. I just take an excuse I can to bash Geoff Johns  Tongue No kicking from me so far. It doesn't matter to me if people don't like Morrison.  Wink

It's not a requirement but it is a request. Smiley The idea in this thread is to kiss or kick or someone for something they've said and to let them know why you did it.

- I wasn't a Kirby fan until fairly recently. I found alot of his stuff to be ugly and his faces to be disconcerting at times.

- Some of the best art I've seen to this day appears in the Creepy and Eerie archive books. I discovered so  many great artists reading through the first few volumes and can't wait to get to the rest.

- Joe Kubert & Alex Toth are my 2 favourite artists.

- I loved Star Wars as a kid but now think Star Trek is just as good if not a bit better.

Absolutely nothing! Karma for the Creepy and Eerie comment and the Kubert/Toth appreciation. I
m glad you've come around on Kirby!

Ahhhh alright. I want to kick someone though because telling people you're kissing them is a cop out.  Wink let's see...

Ok, I'm kicking you Aztec for this trio.

Setting aside personal feelings on his work, you can't deny how insanely influential Alan Moore is to the rest of comics. That alone makes him impervious to overrating. Its like calling the Beatles over rated. If you think that, it's most likely youre the one who's wrong on their rating.

I don't hate John Romita Jr, but he's not really my taste. I Honestly don't think he could pull off All Star Superman. Plus, his father can (still) kick his ass.

And that's blatant sucking up to The Man(s).  Tongue

 No
Rugby is my all-time favorite team sport, and I WISH I lived in a place where I could follow the League on a regular basis!

Here's a kick from me (followed by a few kisses for the Creepy love and Kirby honesty).

LOL! Cheers mate.

I didn't say I disliked league just that I prefer NFL (I really love the NFL). Lately there has been alot of crap nad bad behaviour by players and clubs within Rugby League which has really tainted my love of the game. The same thing probably happens in the NFL, I just don't hear about it over here in Oz.

Same goes for cricket. I love cricket. Played it for 15 years at a fairly high level but really enjoy MLB.

Yea, but Johns' writing is soooooo hacky and ham-fisted it's painful. And his "big ideas" really aren't that special. Really, for Green Lantern, all he did is make an obvious extension of the character and ran it into the ground for 4 years. I'll give him credit, he's great at making sense of continuity, but he'd be much better as an editor or something. Some sort of job where he wouldn't actually have to write dialog.

Morrison on the other hand is a confusing writer, sure, but any time I've actually spent the effort to dig deeper into what was on the page, I found his books immensely more satisfying. You get your moneys worth with Morrison.
I think Johns appeals to be becaue I'm the "turn the brain off and watch an action movie for 2 hours" kind of guy rather than the "this is deeply plotted and everything means something else but you have to figure it out for 2 hours" guy

My summer movie goal is to see Thor smack someone in the face with his hammer
giant robots to just beat the crap out of each other for 2 hours in TF3
Captain America to yell "Does this A on my forehead stand for France?"
Etc

HIIIIIIIYA! Kick! (I guess we just kick folks if we disagree with them in this thread, yeah?)

I definitely disagree. I think Johns' stuff on Green Lantern has actually been pretty lackluster, so I agree with you there, but his last run on JSA was wonderful. That was my favorite book for a while. And I think Johns did equally excellent jobs writing Superman and Teen Titans.

And I've come to believe that Morrison isn't a confusing writer, he's just obtuse at times. What I mean is his concepts aren't hard to understand once you know what he's going for, it's just that making those connections can be hard because he's referencing something that is little known or obscure. For example, not a lot of people would have known who Batman Zur-en-ah<sp> was if online articles didn't let them know -- not even a lot of hardcore bat-fans would know. So on the surface, that read as batshit crazy, and confusing, but once you know where it's coming from, it's less so. Coyote Gospel is another good example. If you can't see the connection to religious sacrifice, or the reference to the Will E Coyote cartoon, that issue will make no sense to you.

That isn't to say Morrison hasn't written things that I have found confusing, like Final Crisis (which I never finished because I didn't like what I was reading), but I don't buy into him as the "drugged up" confusing writer anymore like I used to.
