Karma Tiki. I love that song, though the Smashing Pumpkins have the best 90s rock song attached to a crappy Batman movie.  Cheesy

(Batman Forever isn't really crappy)

I ain't kissing or kicking anyone, Nelson. You ain't the boss a' me!!

I will throw out some of my own kick-worthy opinions, though...

--I don't like any of the Star Wars movies, and I'm sick of hearing the made up reasons why and excuses from other people. I don't like those movies because they're shitty. Shitty acting, shitty directing, shitty script. That's a trifecta of shitty, folks.

--I don't really like Fred Van Lente's Marvel work... it feels way too precious and self-aware to me. And I've never read anything by Greg Pak that I could even get to the end of.

--I could give a crap if I never saw another comic drawn by Paul Pelletier. Leaves me icy, icy cold.

--I didn't think the first Iron Man movie was all that special. I fell asleep. Also, I think Spider-Man 2 is the worst of the trilogy.

--The Dark Phoenix Saga is the most overrated storyline in the history of the medium. Phoenix fans are more aggressively annoying about their childish adoration of that story than potheads are about legalization. I'd honestly pay a million dollars if I could be guaranteed I'd never have to hear anyone talk about it ever again. Second most overrated story of all time: The Dark Knight Returns.

--Everyone who says that Alan Moore isn't the best writer in comics without having the stones to name the guy they think is better... grow a pair and lay it on us! Just because I can't be easily convinced doesn't mean it's impossible.

--I don't like Warren Ellis comics, pretty much as a general rule. Fuck Planetary, the Authority bored the crap out of me, and Transmet was only interesting during the first half before petering out during the last several years of its run. Ellis also penned what I consider to be by far the worst run on Hellblazer. By far.

Fuck man, you don't mess around!  Roll On Floor Laughing

I don't think the Star Wars movies are shitty (well, the newer ones maybe), but I'm sure that a HUGE part of my love for the original trilogy is wrapped up in my memories of going to them as a lad of 6, 9, and 12.  I can still watch and enjoy them today, especially Empire, but I've never been a huge fan as an adult.

Your dislike of Van Lente surprises me...didn't you love The Incredible Hercules when that was coming out?  Was it all Reilly Brown love? (not sure I got his name right...)

The only thing I reaaally disagree with you about is that Spider-Man 2 was the worst of the trilogy.  The third movie was awful.  Toby Maguire at his absolute worst, although the script didn't do him any favors, and a jumbled mishmash of a "plot".

I have a theory that the prequels are actually all just as good as the original trilogy, but people are seeing them as adults instead of little kids, so they hate how bad they are.  Whistle

I bought into the "fun!" aspect of that series for a little while, but after about 5 issues in I kept with it out of habit, and by the end I'd stopped having fun with it completely. Everything was just so... cutesy. No interest in the new series whatsoever.

I don't think any of the movies are gems in particular, but I did at least have fun watching the first and third ones. The second one has some good bits, but there's like an hour in the middle where he stops being Spider-Man and it just draaaaags... the cheesy comic book dialogue and crappy acting aren't enough to carry the film without all the action and special effects. I remember being really disappointed when I saw it, only to find out everyone else was giving it the GOAT tag (which of course was even MORE annoying  Tongue).

--I didn't think the first Iron Man movie was all that special. I fell asleep. Also, I think Spider-Man 2 is the worst of the trilogy.

I thought it was a fine film, pretty entertaining but nothing special, with solid acting from Downey Jr. That said, my girlfriend loved it and it probably did more to get her interested in comics than anything else could have. So there's that.

--Everyone who says that Alan Moore isn't the best writer in comics without having the stones to name the guy they think is better... grow a pair and lay it on us! Just because I can't be easily convinced doesn't mean it's impossible.

Neil Gaiman (go ahead, kick the crap out of me people Thumbs Up)

I'm not a big fan of Planetary, and I disliked The Authority, but dude, Transmet is sooo good!

Seriously, I don't even know how this is possible.

With all your arguments, it is still better than the third movie.  Clunky plot, mediocre acting, an AWOL Spider-man, it is still a better flick than the SM3.

Not that I am arguing, but I am curious as to which story arc you consider the most under-rated.

Moore, Gaiman, Morrison, these are 3 names that are probably in the top tier of writers for many readers.   But I think history will prove Jonathan Hickman to be one of the greatest in due time.

I don't think it's a question of having the stones to say who the best writer in comics is if it isn't Moore. I just don't believe there is one, single best writer in comics. As far as I'm concerned, there are quite a few people who have written comics as good as or better than Moore's work. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and everybody has their own subjective criteria for determining who's better but I sure don't think Moore is unequivocally the best writer in comics. He's among the most ambitious and sophisticated but at times I think he can also be among the most pretentious and contrived.

Anyway, thanks for posting all the kick-worthy comments! I just don't know if I should kick you or give you karma. Smiley

QFT. Just like there's no best artist in comics, it's ridiculous to say there's a best writer. It's as silly as if I said, "Everyone who says that Mark Schultz isn't the best artist in comics without having the stones to name the guy they think is better... grow a pair and lay it on us."

Re: Dave A thoughts (sorry for the lack of quote but I am on my mobile, and it's impossible to post a ling quote)

Spiderman 2 is the best superhero movie of the past decade.

If you fell asleep during Iron man then I would suggest you are over worked and not getting enough sleep. Because if anything that movie was loud man. How could
You sleep through that.

Planetary is the god damn bomb.

I have no argument for any of the three statements, except for the sleep thing, I would maybe see a doctor.
