As was mentioned before, the buzz online was weirdly negative. Here's hoping it turns around.
I wonder how much of the negative buzz had to do with the numerous tie-ins and minis?

what if at the end of all this some of these new characters join back into the normal DCU I think that's a given at this point. I would expect 3-4 of them to make the jump over. I enjoyed the first issue of Flashpoint. I also enjoyed the first issue of Fear Itself, and then Issue #2 was pretty boring since they spoiled the book before it even came out.

I think that's your catch 22 right there. DC's negative/lack of buzz came from NOT spilling any details so the audience is completely surprised. Marvel's PR explosion of issue #2 and all the other hammers ruined any surprise. It's very much a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. FWIW, I am enjoying both. The Tiki

I wouldn't care if they just spoiled "some of the most powerful heroes and villians become the chosen when given hammers of great power" as a spoiler in previews. But revealing who each of them were was a total buzz kill IMO.

I enjoyed Flashpoint, but I think it may have been more about the art than the story. I read DC, but I'm not a DC guy. There were some characters in the alternate universe that I had no idea, who they were. I still enjoyed it though. I'm on board for now.

I'm a DC fan and I didn't who some of the characters were.

The Tiki I do think it is a damed if you do, damned if you don't based on people's reactions. Personally, I rather have buzz come from a book after the first issue comes out not before. If it comes before the first issue, is primarily coming from the publisher. Marvel pretty much ruined the 2nd issue of Fear Itself with their PR. Basically, they told us what was going to happen in the 2nd issue.

I really hope that Captain Thunder is one of those characters that make the jump over.

The last thing I want to do is cross-contaminate event threads, but since it's been brought up a couple times here so far I just have to say I have no idea what happened in Fear Itself #2.
Full disclosure: I haven't read either issue of the Marvel event.

It was just a reveal of those who were the "chosen". Marvel released all of those details everywhere, so news sites had pictures on their main pages. It's even on the cover of the issue.

All I want to know is, can I read the Azz and Risso tie-in without having to bother with the main book.

We'll see. Batman is set up to be a major character in the Flashpoint mini. In a way, it's almost a Flash/Batman team up in an alt. world. I suspect the Azz/Risso tie in will be more about what got Batman to this point in this world, which if that's the case it could be a stand alone story. On the other hand, it could easily be Batman's task in resolving the main story's situation.

I believe all of the Tie Ins are back story to the universe, not so much to the main mini itself. Except a few like Kid Flash, Reverse flash, and world of flashpoint.

I'm guessing the same. The tie-ins look like they're going to be stories about characters in the new reality but not part of the main story.

My DCBS box showed up today. Read Flashpoint. I'm very happy about it! Cyborg is a boss! That Batman reveal was sweet. Watching Barry Allen sit in traffic made me smile. ... and the S!H!A!Z!A!M! transformation was the first time in a very long time that Captain Marvel's intro made me think "damn"! I really like that I have no idea where this story will go. I'm going to try to ride this beast spoiler-free.

I was a bit surprised that there are not Flashpoint minis in the stores today. I know Booster Gold shipped, but with 16 minis & 4 one-shots, I'd have thought that they'd have at least a couple of them in the stores the week after Flashpoint #1.
Also, asked my LCS how Flashpoint sold, he said it did about 2/3rd of what Fear Itself #1 sold.....

Thought the same thing. I LOVED Flashpoint #1 and was very excited to eat some more of it up, found it disappointing and odd that they would follow up such a big issue with nothing really. Gotta think that the Batman mini would have sold pretty good today with all the talk about the cliffhanger to #1. Although, if I had hated Flashpoint #1 I may have felt the opposite, so maybe they were playing it safe. Also, asked my LCS how Flashpoint sold, he said it did about 2/3rd of what Fear Itself #1 sold.....
DC's big event sells under 100,000 with it's first issue...wow. It will be interesting to see if it actually picks up sales due to it being better than a lot of people expected.

yes, we'll have to see how indicative it is of total sales. What I find interesting is that the LCS I go to generally sells DCs very strong. Other people should ask their LCS owners how they felt sales on Flashpoint #1 went compared to Fear Itself and see if there's a pattern.
