I'm more excited about tomorrow's 11oC discussing this then I am for reading the Ultimate Comics DCU edition.
But if it's 1.99 or less, my gf will appreciate the amount of floppies that are reduced on our coffee table.

This all hinges on the price point. if they really are going for a "new audience" they will be jackasses to release this for over a $1. I'm a comic book fan who love he digital revolution, and I'm not in for more than $1.00. I'm not saying I'm indicative of the market, but I'm pretty sure there isn't one at 2.99.
I have mild interest at .99, zero interest above and I'm feeling like I'm the comic reader/tech guy with disposable income they want.

Indie record labels started this trend somewhere around four or five years ago.
Indeed...Kill Rock Stars has done this for a long while now and I love it! I'm not sure I understand how you mean that comic publishers could jump on board this model. The reason mp3 downloads began popping up in vinyl was so that people could buy the record and also have a copy for their iPod with actually copying the record (not an easy task with vinyl). It was a situation where you got to have a physical artifact and a portable version.
I thought that this was also done to keep some fans from feeling like they'd have to buy a record all over again to enjoy it in their desired format...what I would like to see is the same approach to comics: I buy the thing in hardcopy at a LCS or via DCBS and the hardcopy ships with a code that lets me enjoy a .cbr/etc-formatted digital copy. I doubt this approach has entered the darkest dreams of DC and Marvel execs but it's what I'd dig the most. I don't see comics suffering from this issue. Most people I speak with about digital comics do not want a physical copy at all. My feeling on going digital would be to stop getting floppies all together and only buy them digitally. If I read something digitally that I want a physical copy to read I will buy a trade or hardcover. I just don't think there would be any point to receiving a download card with my single issue floppy. Just my opinion. I may misunderstand what you're going for.
In this instance I am likely not-most-people. I buy some of my music on vinyl and some of it on MP3/FLAC/etc. I tend to by production music and sound-effects tracks as great big WAV and AIFF files. Back in the early-20-aughts Radiohead would put out weird special-edition-CDs of records like Hail to the Thief. I have bought music in all of these formats; I would love to be able to buy comics in a similar way in the digital era that we seem to be inexorably moving towards. I gather that I may not be able to do so for a good long while...

People should note that this is not a complete reboot but a relaunch. There is a difference. In the letter to retailers, DC Entertainment's Senior Vice President of Sales, Bob Wayne stated: "We have taken great care in maintaining continuity where most important, but fans will see a new approach to our storytelling. Some of the characters will have new origins, while others will undergo minor changes."
I'd really like to see that happen, but not just with new origins or minor changes, but really, not taking six issues to tell a story that you can do in two, not feeling the need for line-wide crossovers... that sort of thing...

BTW,
I think I am going to buy every one of DC's #1s. I am not going to pre-order even a single one of the #2s.
I'll read the #1s as they come out and decide which ones earn a slot on my pull-list.
I know this doesn't apply to Bob since he's already said that he's definitely getting the print copies, but this made me think of how this will help our regina piles. You won't have to preorder. You don't have to buy until you're ready to read. Don't let issues stack up for 12 months. Buy as you go. This could help my personal budget tremendously. I am so afraid they're going to screw it up and price them at $2.99.

If it's not $2.99 I'll eat Breevort's hat. The market is just too small and Comixology/Apple take too big a cut for things to be cheaper than that right now.

One thing I HOPE is that digital kills the traditional 6-issue story arc just so they can sell a few trades. It really should kill it because the singles aren't hard to find. I just hope it does.

Well, that can just as easily be kllled in print as well... Why does a trade only need to tell one story (not really asking Dean that, it's just rhetorical)

I'll be honest... I'm probably going to drop all of my DC Universe titles, except for Xombi (if they even keep it going). To totally disavow your entire history and wipe it clean is just wrong. I can somewhat accept it if there's a "this is happening on Earth-X" plot device -- that leaves the original content in continuity. To simply start from scratch though... that's just disrespectful to the characters and the creators that put blood, sweat and tears into their craft. In closing... here's my thoughts on the "NEW DC" in one simple image. I just whipped this up in Photoshop.

I want to be the first to call this one... DC will go day and date with the #1s and not the second issues. They will try to get people to "taste" the new titles and then send them to an LCS. I know that that is not a popular idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do it. The Tiki

I'm on for at least a few new series. Day and date digital is all I ever wanted. I hope the reboots are well thought out and have some staying power. I'm pretty excited.

The JLA team is Superman, WW, Flash, Batman, GL, Aquaman and Cyborg. Don't know which flash or batman it is though. Saw the full picture on twitter, but I can't Dl it to host it myself.

At first I was thinking that this might be a good time to jump off from DC(and comics in general) because I am heading off to school in September. But then DC announces Morrison will be writing a new superman book. Guess I will still be reading some stuff...

As long as I can still read Snyder on Detective and Miller on Batgirl I'm happy. I don't read and have no interest in reading anything else that DC puts out.

Ok let's be real. 99 cents ain't happening. 99 cents ain't happening with new songs either. Those $1.29. Now I'm not big on $2.99 but I think $2.49-$1.99 is decent price point for digital. And maybe after enough time drop the price a bit.
