I think they could've told new and interesting stories without the Mephisting ... I just hope they don't do it in some horribly ham fisted way. No deals with the devil, please. That's a weird word, "Mephisting". Combining that word with the "dealing with the devil" in any sort of "fisted" way conjures the image of an demonic figure forcibly & manually sodomizing someone. I'd better quickly drop this line of thought before Vince excitedly jumps in with a reference to some Crossed-like or Neonomicony thing he'd like to read.

So... 52 #1's day & date. That's something. I hear Superman has a collar. Sounds modern.

So, I am particularly looking forward to a few books that I don't think will get the numbers to last long, and want to do all I can to support them.
Would they be better supported through print or through digital, or it wouldn't matter either way?
IS printing a big cost for the O/Hs of a book that factors into how much it needs to sell to be kept alive?
Say one of these books moves (day and date) 5k in print and 10k digital. assuming 5k is no good and 10k is reasonable, would they cut the book all together because the print is not making the cut or would they just cut the print off but continue putting it out digitally.
I wish I payed more attention now when everyone talks numbers around here. I have no idea how much a book has to sell for one of the big two not to cut it.

I'm guessing Digital will have a "longer tail" (e.g. more sales way after the initial date of shipping) that the publisher will continue to see revenue for, so they may not be as quick to cancel a book if sales keep coming in month after month. This means that initial sales will not be the be-all & end-all they are today. PLUS, we will never see objective sales figures for digital sales. You'll never know how many digital copies really sell unless it is something really positive that the marketing folks want to trumpet about for a specific book. I'm guessing a book doing 20k copies (print + digital over a 2-3 month period) should be safe. If you see a book selling 10k copies in print and it is NOT cancelled by issue #6, you can assume it's pulling in another 10k+ in digital sales, but that's probably the best we'll be able to do, guess.

The DC letter pages are getting a little silly knowing DC is doing the relaunch in September. With Batgirl fans are like we love the book and keep up the good work. While DC is like we love everything inherently Steph Brown. A retailer writing in. Fans hoping for big plans with the 2nd year anniversary of the title while I'm thinking yeah the title's getting cancelled! Then finally DC telling readers to send their letters in if they would like to see someone to reappear. I imagine that would turn out differently now. I imagine the letters column will start seeming less silly shortly.

Hell, I'd like to see them hold off on an event for at least two years, and really let these books have their chance first...

That would be awesome. Also it would be great to get at least 12 issues from every book before they start chopping. Which I am kind of hopeful for. DC are seeming really progressive atm. I am stinging for September. And thats from someone who has always had a hard time getting into DC. I really hope this pulls in new readers. And that they all read Grifter, Stormwatch and Voodoo

Two years without an event? That probably seems too long. Especially since Marvel is already working on another major comic book event for next year.

I think with trades and now digital, it will be difficult to know how successful a book is, as trades also have a longer tail and the sale information is more incomplete than comic book sales. To your point Bob, the only way we would know if a book is successful or not is if the book continues to be published without a major change in direction or creative team. Just like the old days Another point you brought up is that it won't take much to be as successful in digital as the publishers are in print due to low print run on a lot of books.
