As funny as it sounds from someone that's a fan of the medium, don't insult my intelligence. Don't take the cheap and uncreative way out and tell me it happened between issues.
So with this in mind, where do you stand on Bullseye? Is every appearance ruined for you now until a writer throws in a panel of the Hand (or someone) resurrecting Bullseye? Or can you compartmentlize this story because it was published by Epic? Here's a question just for my own clarification:

Or can you compartmentlize this story because it was published by Epic? I've never read that story. As far as I'm concerned (from reading Daredevil as it was published), after Daredevil let Bullseye fall to the ground Kingpin shipped Bullseye to Japan where Lady Deathstrike's father fused adamantium to his skeleton.

I love making the the pre-crisis history of the DCU fit together with the Post-Crisis DCU in my mind. It doesn't need to be done for me and I don't need Superboy Prime to the punch the Walls of Reality in order to correct the oddities of Hawkman or Wonder Woman. I can make that work on my own ask long as the stories are Consistant. And I will throw things out that just make things not work for me. I'm with you, and further, what I was trying (and failing) to say earlier was that I think we actually all do this to a certain extent. We all cherry-pick the stories we prefer and try to ignore (or at least pay less attention to, if not straight-up discount) the stuff that really, really bothers us. We all just have different thresholds, and while some of us may keep things *mostly* official, others (such as you and I) will kick any old thing to the curb if we're really not feeling it. In my World HawkGod didn't happen. In my world I can make all the Legions fit as Parallel World Legions (which was obvious to me before Legion of 3 Worlds) and I can remember Colin Bakers Doctor never wearing a Clown suit, And Wolverine never had stupid Bone Claws. Piggy-backing on this -- and I've said this before -- but in "my" Marvel U, Logan's name is "Logan." I know a lot of the Origins stories are good stories, and I have no problem with that, but I'll tend to think of them as an alternate reality or something. Why? Because I really didn't care for the Origin mini by Jenkins. The "big reveal" exploited years of Wolverine stories for the sake of a cheap twist ("You thought he was gonna be the Logan boy? SURPRISE! It's the Howlett kid!" "Yes, of course we thought it was going to be someone named Logan, seeing as how he's been named Logan for the last 25 years!" ). To ME, that was incredibly unimaginative, and more than a little betraying of what came before.

Pretty much always when it's not your current taste. (and 'your' meaning all 4 of you... almost) Having said that, that's the show's prerogative. It's not a news show, it's a show about 4 specific people and their opinions. Do I always agree? Hell no! But it gets you thinking about this hobby that we love, and why you love it, and every episode I come away with more positive than negative.

I am just listening to the episode now so if someone has said this already in the thread i apologize... RE: the whole Thomas Wayne/Flashpoint: #1 I believe that even if you are a first time reader, common pop culture tells you that Bruce Wayne is Batman. So you would know by default that THIS Flashpoint world is askew from what we know. #2 Even if you DON'T know the basic pop culture knowledge of Batman, the last 5 panels ( last 4 on the second to last page and the last page splash) tell you all you need to know for THIS self contained story ( which is the key). If you are a fan of sequential story telling, as much as Kubert is getting panned for the issue he does a artistic story telling trick with Batman's ear on his cowl to give you a hint. I look at Flashpoint as being more of a story like Cristopher Nolan's Momento rather than his Dark Knight. It's about the journey rather than the action. Just my 2¢. the Tiki

Just my 2¢. the Tiki Couldn't agree more, I think that is the key to this panel. If you know who Thomas is then that excites you maybe and you get the next issue. If you don't know who Thomas is, you know that this Batman is not Bruce and maybe that intrigue gets you to the next issue. On the Rocketeer subject. I cant wait to get the new mini but was curious as to your acceptance of the title. Chris or Vince described it as a love letter to Stevens and because of that it was OK to publish. Does that mean that a new ongoing would be an immediate pass for anyone? The sacred cow status of Rocketeer is clear. Like most, the Rocketeer is one of my beloved. One of the influential short lived master pieces of the medium. Unfortunately though because of its short life there's so much story to tell and so much to flesh out that a new ongoing series would be able to pretty much do whatever it wanted to. I would be hesitant but excited at being able to see more of Cliffs adventures. New characters, new adventures ... more Rocketeer, might be fun? Travis

Huh. i guess perception is everything. These four kooks are single handedly responsible for getting me back in comic shops buying. That's all about their enthusiasm. OK, maybe the other three were a little harsh to dogpile Vince like that. My heart broke a little when he didn't get to talk about Xombi. Every time you stifle him, a Vince Colleta gets his nib.

WOOOD!! You deserve some serious dap for repping my man ROCK MAN! also I think Thomas Wayne is really THE only character that a "new" reader would know at all. If this "new" reader who never has read a superhero comic and hasn't seen any Batman media ever was reading this book I think it might be confusing. But I really doubt that any person reading this never saw anything with Batman. That is what they focus on that family picture-we know that the two males in the picture the child is bruce. Now I do think that Thomas should've been drawn older and maybe bigger like DKR Batman. Favorite scrolling action of all time!

I was thinking the same thing. I don't agree that this comic was as inaccessible as others think. Everything you need to know is on the page. And who doesn't know the origin of Batman with all the movies and animation out there. When we talk about new readers, we probably should limit it to people who like to watch super-hero movies, but haven't never read a comic or haven't in a long time. If someone doesn't like to watch super-hero movies, they are never going to pick up a comic.
Thinking about inaccessiblilty, Warner Bros just release an image of Bane that everyone is talking about. If DC comics did the same thing, people would say they are targeting existing readers only because who would know Bane outside the comics. I think as readers, we sometimes over think what is accessible and what is not.
Btw, loved the episode. This is one of my favorite podcasts
Thanks Hassan!

I completely agree. There was a point this past year that I didn't open a comic for about 4 months. Just let stuff stack up. Then I devoured it again. Taking a break is awesome when it's needed. the Tiki
