A couple of other questions to think about:
Is there anyone who've bought any blurays even though they don't have a bluray player yet? Is there anyone who've been replacing some of their dvds with bluray versions? Any double/multiple dippers? Anyone who has a bluray player but doesn't have a HDTV? Are you just gonna skip bluray and wait for everything to go digital?
I mostly buy blurays these days. That said, I rarely buy movies nowadays because my brother is a movie nerd and buys so much of them so I just borrow his stuff. And I mainly buy when they're on sale since I'm not in a hurry to own movies.
What about you guys?

i've been buying blu-ray ever since i bought a blu-ray laptop and a BR player. that said, my movie buying has slowed down a bit because watching movies on netflix instant is so much easier and there are a lot of good shows on regular TV (sometimes in HD too).
that said, i still intend to keep some regular DVD's. mostly those hard-to-get movies or TV shows. i wanna get the remastered original star wars theatrical cut, for example.
====
FYI best buy has a deal where you bring 5 DVD's to their store and you can exchange them for a $5 coupon that goes to one of their pre-selected blu-ray movies. you got 135 titles to choose from.
amazon also has a DVD trade-in offer, where you get credit for future blu-ray purchases.

I haven't. I don't buy movies much anyway. I've got enough hobbies (comics, duh) as it is and I'm not a person who watches movies over and over again. I'm also more interested in the movies themselves than commentaries and features. We watch most of our stuff via streaming, or failing that, by getting the disc itself via Netflix.
I always thought I might buy a PS3 someday and get one that way but that's looking increasingly unlikely.

I only buy a Blu Ray if the movie warrants it, or it's cheap. Some older movies have horrible transfers, where as stuff like Thor I will buy because it seems like a movie that would be awesome on Blu Ray.

I think DVDs aren't too bad if you have something that can upscale it and you don't sit too close to your tv. Some of the media players (VLC, Media Player Classic) even allow you to tweak things such as sharpness to make it look better when using your PC to play them. I don't have the desire to replace my dvds except maybe some of the more cgi/special effects heavy ones and only if the blurays are on sale. Or just go digital, its only a matter of time.

I don't have a blu-ray player but I have purchased several combo packs for movies that include the dvd, blu-ray, and a digital copy. I keep the dvd and give the blu-ray to a friend.

I avoided Blu Ray for a long time, but this past Xmas they were so effing cheap I went ahead and bought them for our TVs. We only own a few Blu Rays, and admittedly we've used it very infrequently though. Digital has become such a standard for us, particularly on the movie side. In fact, when we do use the Blu Rays, it's usually to stream Netflix or Pandora.

I skipped Bluray and I'm already on the next stage... all digital. Could not be happier.

I wouldn't mind going totally digital. Its not at all like with the whole physical vs digital comics debate.

We stream all our movies digitally usually. I only very rarely buy movies any more. When DVD came out I collected like a son of a bitch and wound up with hundreds of movies that I very rarely ever re visited. With Blue Rey, although I have a player I only buy the occasional buy movies. I've been buying the Disney movies for my daughter as they're released and will pick up Star Wars but I don't seek them out. However, if your talking about multiple dipping, Once I buy Star Wars I will have octo dipped on that. Travis

I own a Blu-Ray but probably only because my G/F got me one for a birthday a year or so ago. I do love it though and am very glad I own it movies look simply fantastic and now I always notice when its not blu-ray, not that standard DVD bother me or anything but you notice. The main reason I love my Blu-Ray though is for streaming netflix. I know you can do that on different devices but I use my Blu-Ray and it work great for streaming I also use it for playing Pandora through the apt. Love it.

I own a blu-ray player, but no blu-rays. I'm so over physical media, it isn't even funny. That said, I enjoy watching blu-rays for new movies, so I use my netflix 1-out-at-time to watch blu-rays that I'm interested in. I wouldn't have a blu-ray player if they weren't so cheap, but I could definitely live without it.

i switched to blu-ray a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier. it's really kind of spoiled me. i download a lot and do netflix streaming a lot as well, and sometimes the quality on those is fantastic. but it's never quite as good as a blu. i've switched over to buying almost exclusively blu-rays, though occasionally i'll buy an old movie used on dvd if it's not something i really care about the quality. but i'm in a different situation, i work at home, so i'd guess i end up watching a lot more tv on dvd and movies than most people. and yeah, i have replaced a fair amount of movies on blu, mostly bigger budget/action/comic book movies that i know will look fantastic in high def, or just newer movies that i really love that i know will have a transfer that's worthwhile.

Oh okay, I didn't know that was the case. Does Netflix not stream in 1080p? Also, how's the audio with the streaming stuff? After getting a surround sound setup, I always go for whatever has the best audio.

i'm pretty sure it'll stream in dolby, but i'm not positive. netflix WILL stream at full high def (not sure if it's actually 1080 or 720, my tv is only 720 anyway), but only if your network speed will allow a transfer of that size at a reasonable speed. almost every time my stream attempts to do full high def the network speed inevitably drops and the stream stalls.

My wife and I love repeatedly watching movies, listening to audio commentaries, dissecting screen writing and plot movements in favorite films, etc. We have no immediate plans to buy into Blu-Ray as a format. Indeed, the format of our immediate and perhaps distant futures will likely be iTunes and Amazon video-file purchases/rentals, our ongoing Netflix subscription and/or rentals from places like Scarecrow Video, On 15th Video and Facets out of Chi-town; for these last three we typically turn to them for VHS tapes of unlikely-to-ever-be-digitized old favorites, like "Zombie and the Ghost Train". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103337/http://on15thvideo.com/http://www.scarecrow.com/http://www.facets.org/Just as my man-cave has a heap of our old CDs gathering dust our custom-bookcase/entertainment center in the living room as a shelf of DVDs, mostly purchases from the early to mid-twenty-aughts, that sit and gather dust. I wonder how long it will be until we cart 'em off to Half Price Books or Goodwill. You'll probably have to pry my "Lord of the Rings" Extended and "The Godfather" Trilogy DVDs from cold dead fingers... I will confess to a little curiosity re: Blu-Ray editions of "Alien" and "Aliens"...if a "Big Trouble in Little China" version is out there I may have to check Blu-Ray player prices at Costco...
