True Story...from early 2000s Wizard World Chicago

Fanboy:  "Hey man, I'm a Huuuuuuge Mark Waid fan.  Can I cut in front of you?"
Me:  "Sure...for $40 bucks"  (hoping to chase him away)
Fanboy: "I only have a $50."
Me:  "Then go by me and this guy behind me each a Coke." (expecting this would get rid of him)
(five minutes later the guy behind me and I each had twenty bucks and a Coke).

We recieved applause from all of the jealous people around us.  When the guy got up to Mark Waid he went all Chris Farley, lost his shit and left without saying hardly anything to Mark Waid, other than "thank you".  After mark signed his books (I think about 5 of them).

Here is one from just last weekend. Me and Felipe from the forum went to Dallas Comic Con. Felipe had purchased a VIP pass and I due to procrastination was General Admin so we got separated into different lines while waiting to be let into the exhibit hall. Where I was displaced next to one of the weirdest guys ever.

Guy-"Awww man I am so tired"
Me- "Yeah.......I hear ya man"
Guy-"Dude, so have you played the new Mortal Kombat?"
Me-"No I am not really a big gamer. Looks cool though"
Guy-"I was up playing it all night with my mom but I got her real stoned first because thats the only way she is any good at, ya know?
Me- "...........Exactly"

Interesting discussions, "a geeks is someone who wonders what sex is like in in 0 gravity while a nerd wonders what sex is like"

Not so much something I heard, but something I saw...

A few years back, a friend was standing in a portfolio line when Jason Millet (my Athena Voltaire colorist, and a terrific illustrator/cartoonist/storyboarder, as well) and I stopped to chat. Jason showed our friend a copy of a Heart of Juliet Jones trade paperback and the three of us just sat there, drooling over Stan Drake's masterful draftsmanship and gorgeous rendering.

The kid behind us in line, hearing us raving about "lush linework" and "amazing figure drawing" and "able to draw anything," cranes his neck, nonchalantly, to see what had all of us so hypnotized...

The look on his face was as if he discovered a turd in a punchbowl.

I'm the only one of us that saw it, and we continued to gush. And gush.

Pretty soon, the kid cranes his head again. I'm sure he thought something like, "Maybe I missed something. This may be cool if these guys are getting so worked up by this book."

Same reaction.  Roll On Floor Laughing

"Funny things heard at a con" doesn't include some of the commission/sketch requests I've been approached with (and my friends, too).     Huh?

Has anyone ever asked you for a sketch of Batman saying "U Mad?"?  I'd ask for that.

Comic Vine: Where does Thunderbolt Ross' mustache go when he turns into Red Hulk? Will your Hulk ever have a mustache?

Mark Waid: Thunderbolt’s mustache goes into the Negative Zone, where it enjoys its own separate adventures that will hopefully someday be told. Our Hulk needs no mustache. Muttonchops, perhaps.

When I had e opportunity to have dinner with Steve Leiber he told me the weirdest commission stuff he ever was envolved with was a guy who had artists draw Supergirl in bondage. The dude showed up year after year with multiple sketch books and hundreds of pieces of art. Every artist knew him and what he wanted.

Sal Abanati has some stories that he tells about on a couple of old AC episodes (very funny when Sal tells them).  One involves Modok.   Roll Eyes
