I remember your stuff from the Old Drawingboard.org!
I liked your old stuff. Quirky and cool as hell....
But I'm really digging your new stuff. Still quirky but streamlined.

It's still layered though. With the colors it really pops.

hey nice to hear from someone from drawingboard!!
i haven't been around their forums much lately

glad you like this style. the darker style am still using, but for this project i wanted to use the clearer moebius line (he's laughing right now) you now european sci-fi tradition

also cause with the ample shadow work it's easer to "cheat" a lot and that's great but to really learn (and suffer) its great to try these clear line approach, it gets hard, with no easy way out...
it made me sketch my figures, posses, props and environments a lot more and separately . 4 or 5 times per character...

you can see a lot of the prep work for these pages if you scroll back on my daily sketch blog its all pretty much there!

and if anyone's at NYCC go to booth 4340 and get a copy of NOBODIES #1 at DRAW MORE INC to read the whole NMA story along with more great comics!

let me know what you think once you do read it!

Laseraw, I've read it twice now, and I think it is great! Your storytelling and character designs are wonderful and I enjoyed the pace. I really like the way you use color, but I would love to also see this story in B&W (especially after seeing all your sketches). I ran into David and Wood and theFreakytiki at the show and showed them the book, they were digging it, and we all agreed that if you were at the show we'd have all got commissions. So let everybody know if you ever plan on attending, because I know at least 4 people that would hit you up. I'm excited to see what you do next - Monsta  Not Worthy

thank you both TIM and EVAD!

here are the very first layouts for the first 5 pages and the final inks for those pages +6 of the NMA story ( Wink MONSTA  )

pag01

pag02-03 (page 03 is now page 04)

page 2 changed quite a bit to show as much of the world as posible with out interrupting the action, using wider framings.
to show the city, after the whole story was drawn, i aded a "new" page 3 to show how the character moves through different streets towards a less populated and abandoned area of the city.
that's why this page is not on the early layout
page 04 where she encounters the dogs looks pretty similar as the final art

pag04-05 (now pages 05 and 06)

page 05 remains pretty much the same as in the layout but page 06 changed also to show a wider view of where the action takes place with out inturrupting the action.
here are some alternate layouts for what page 06 ended up as

and now the final inks and some blue pencil

pag01

pag02 (blue line and pencil over it, as an editor requested)

pag03

pag04

pag05

pag06

i'd love to post the whole thing here, as the big action set piece comes right after page 6 but i guess the great guys at draw more ink are trying to sell the anthology that NMA is a part of... so i'll have to hold on the 2nd half for a while...

you can buy the NOBODIES anthology at DRAWMOREINK store and i understand there soon should be a digital edition for sale...

let me know if you bought it and what you thought of NMA once you've read it, or your opinion/critique/comments from what you've seen here.

love you 11OC forumites!

I love getting the opportunity to see the "process" that goes into page construction and layout, and this, this is a perfect example!  Yes

this is a large and detailed image i recomend looking at the XL jpg here
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m90mbt7p1W1qe6gh0o1_1280.jpg

the piece is completely digital
here is the blue line sketch and the line drawing.

here my comments from the blog entry.

here's another tribute to the late great Joe Kubert.

I portrayed some of the characters he worked on, the ones i remember the most.
it seems easy to draw this characters after he did them, i think it might be because he infused a lot of his own character on each one, making them recognizable and unforgettable.

he only had a short run on Tex, that i'm aware off, but is some of the best western comics i've seen.
the Tor short stories i like very, very much, specially the silent ones.
of course Sgt. Rock and Hawkman are his most iconic and popularly referenced DC characters, but my favorite action book is Enemy Ace, layouts and compositions in the book are just amazing.
i really liked Fax From Sarajevo and was very struck by his pencil work on Yossel.

i love all his stuff, but my favorite Joe Kubert art overall is the raw pencil work of Yossel and Dong Xoai, which are fairly recent books and prove that the man was better and better every year which is something to aspire to.

this is an entirely digital piece which happens to be quite large and detailed.
i recommend looking at the larger version of the image.

this piece started as a loose sketch drawing of the kubert characters, just thinking about him and later became a piece on it's own as i enjoyed portraying each one, noticing the similarities between their characters.
i include here the loose sketch line state and the delineated state of the piece.
perhaps on the sketch state more of the Kubert influence can be appreciated in the facial expressions and looser lines.

this powerful and expressive artist had an amazing career, if you haven't take a minute to examine his work when you have a chance.
