That didn't take very long. Joe Mad (Avenging SM) & Marc Silvestri (Inc Hulk), both fan favorites, and both only lasted 3 issues.......

BTW, I read #1 digitally (I bought the comic & then did the digital download & read it that way 1st just to see what it would be like).....
The digital viewer was OK, but kind of sucks on 2-page spreads & splashes. It seems that if they really want to push to digital they are going to have to steer the artists away from doing big spreads that don't read good on digital screens (& I was reading it on a 19" computer monitor, not a phone).
Less pages of art that can be sold for $1000+ on the aftermarket if they want this stuff to really rock digitally, IMO.
I also thought the story felt like it wrapped up too quickly for $3.99. Given it was 22 pages and there were a bunch of big splashy pages that cut down the actual story content even further. When I hit "to be continued" I was feeling like there should have been another 5-6 pages of story told in this chunk.

I'm not sure if there were arrangements in place for Studio Silverstri and the Top Cow Bunch to alternate arcs, but it was announced in the first issue of Avenging Spider-Man that Madureira won't be there for every story. But, like Red Hulk claims, I'm sure nobody read it. I just hope Land doesn't draw the team-up with Cyclops. Or the one with Planet Terry...

maybe they read it but took offense to Greg Land being described as "top talent" I never really had that much problem with Land, but I don't think he's great either* *here comes gobo, ready to kick my ass again!

I don't have a huge problem with Land (he's no Acuna ), just not a fan and hate how much tracing he does. Would just rather Uncanny X-Men have better talent on it.

I like Acuna (and yes I've noticed he's fallen off a bit lately) But yeah, you need vibrant, kinetic art for a book like spidey, he's better suited for say... Punisher. Something where photoreferencing weaponry makes sense instead of photoreference people. Punisher fans will call for my head now...

Paul wheels would be all over that! He's actually on the boards as earth2wheels. PUNISHER: BULLETS & BOOBIES has a nice ring to it.

You've got to pitch that to Marvel. I'm surprised that Ennis never did that story.

And for those that didn't read the letters page, this little tidbit from last week (again, before the Spider-Man family of solicits went live): Q: Joe is a great artist, but he's hasn't worked on a monthly book for some time. Readers are wondering how big of a part he'll play on "Avenging Spider-Man?" Will we see his work in the title on a regular basis?
A: Let me say flat out: "Avenging Spider-Man" is a monthly comic. If it fails to ship in a given month, it's on me.
There's definitely going to be a little space between this first three parter and Joe's next story, but there are still going to be issues every month by Zeb and some of the best artists in comics.
Joe has been pretty up front about what he can do, and that makes it easy for me to schedule around him. The things that make it hard to schedule are when an editor and artist are surprised by things they didn't see coming.
I've learned a lot about scheduling over the last two years from working on Spider-Man and when I worked on "52" for DC, so I can generally guide this stuff pretty well (as long as [assistant editor] Ellie Pyle is there caching all my mistakes).
After this first three part arc, we'll have a few issues by some other big name artists and Zeb. Then we get back to Joe's second arc which is also going to be huge. So I think we're going to see six to eight issues from Joe every year, which I think holds up with just about any other book.Source.

Even with Mad's art, the comic felt very light (story & content-wise) to justify the $3.99 price-tag.
That's from my perspective. other who love Joe Mad a lot more than I do will probably not have this problem & gladly pay the $3.99 for what felt like 2/3rds of an issue worth of story to me.

I was so bummed to hear Greg Land was going to be doing an arc on this title. Not so much because it's a fill-in artist, but because I feel like I've gotten a lifetime dose of the dude over on Uncanny for the last few years.
He should just go do Jenna Jameson biography comics for Bluewater. He'd be awesome at that.

Land is only doing an issue? Weird. I wish the series was priced at $2.99. I know it's just a buck, but still a little steep for 21 Screens (digitally of course)

Ugh Greg Land? Really? For this type of book you need someone like Sean Galloway or Humberto Ramos.

Props for the Cheeks mention. But please don't take Ramos (and Cuevas/Delgado) off of Amazing. This is some of the best work I've seen this team do.
