I was disappointed with what I bought from DC this week so I'm already looking toward next week and wondering what to buy. here's what's coming (apologies for the caps, this was a "cut and paste" job):

BATMAN #1
BIRDS OF PREY #1
BLUE BEETLE #1
CAPTAIN ATOM #1
CATWOMAN #1
DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #1
NIGHTWING #1
RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1
SHOWCASE PRESENTS: ALL-STAR COMICS VOL. 1
SUPERGIRL #1
WONDER WOMAN #1

On the surface, most of those books don't grab me but I'm determined to try some stuff so... any suggestions? i'll probably try Batman. What else? What are you getting?

The only one on the list that looks interesting to me is Cliff Chiang and Brian Azzarello on Wonder Woman. I loved the pair on Doctor Thirteen, so I'm eager to see how they reimagine the Amazon.

David, what didn't you like about Batwoman?

The pacing.  The characters (except maybe Maggie Sawyer).

I feel like I'm missing something because I didn't read the Detective Comics run.  The way the art is laid out I feel it will definitely work better for me as a collection.  So when that's solicited, I'll probably give it a shot.

I'm open to having my mind changed but right now this is what I'm thinking.
Buys:
Batman #1: A must buy after Snyder's incredible Detective run.
Wonder Woman #1: I have zero history with this character but Brian Azzarello is an inspired choice and his
comments about this being a horror title is intriguing. Also Chiang is a solid artist that I enjoy.
Titles I'm Considering:
Nightwing #1: I'm a big fan of Dick Grayson and enjoyed Higgins on Gates of Gotham, but Nightwing doesn't
have a long history of great runs and Higgins is still unproven.
Blue Beetle #1: The previous series was a lot of fun and had an Ultimate Spiderman feel. If this series is in a
similar style, I'm on board. I might wait to hear the buzz on this series before I jump on.

I'm trying them all, but I'm genuinely excited for:

Wonder Woman -- Azzarello and Cliff Chiang = a winning combination no matter what the subject matter IMHO
Batman -- Snyder and Cappullo...POW!
Red Hood & The Outlaws -- Ken Rocafort artwork, YOWZOOOOM!

I'm getting Batman, Catwoman, and possibly Wonder Woman. I'm on the fence about DC Universe Presents (Deadman),  and Red Hood and the Outlaws (purely because of the art).

If These Books maintain this Level of Quality, I'll Keep Buying
Justice League
Swamp Thing
Frankenstein
Legion Lost

If I Have Room in my Budget, I'll Buy
Hawk and Dove
Grifter
Superboy

Delicious Deluxe Hardcover
Batwoman

Initial thoughts:

Deathstroke

I've missed Slade.  This reminded me that he's a bad ass.  An older Frank Castle with enhanced abilities that may not have Frank's moral limitations.  The only real turnoff so far is Cristophe.  But I found this to be one of the better first issues in that while it sets things up, it's pretty much a done in one.  Which sets it apart from some of the other titles released over the past couple weeks.  And the art was tight.

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.

Had no idea what to expect.  I can see the BPRD comparisons, but that doesn't mean this didn't set the stage nicely.  I can already see me getting attached to some of the characters and getting upset when one of them is killed off. The art fit the story.

Superboy

Another one where the art fit.  This wasn't a quick read (so it's the anti-Batwing) and a lot was packed into it.  Like Deathstroke, it was a nice introduction.

Suicide Squad

Like Marvel's Punisher title this is probably going to be my guilty pleasure.  Can't not read Harley.  I've been a Deadshot fan since forever.  And the Ostrander/McDonnell run holds a special place in my heart so it has the nostalgia thing going for it.

Mr. Terrific

I liked it, didn't love it.  There were some things - art and writing - that seemed inconsistent.  I felt like there could have been more to the issue.  Pros: Michael's and Karen's relationship.  Cons: the way the artist draws clothing and his 'fun with perspective' stunts.

Legion Lost

Should be Reader's Lost.  I can tell you what happened in the issue... for the most part.  I can tell you who most of the characters are.  But this is an issue that'll definitely need a re-read before I get the next one.  Nicieza is why I'm sticking with it for now.  Not that Woods is a slouch.

Batwoman

I love it when my friends enjoy the books they're reading.

Thoughts on Red Lanterns, Resurrection Man, Demon Knights, Grifter, Batman & Robin, and Green Lantern later.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've never had much interest in Wonder Woman but maybe that creative team (and Azzarello's comment about it being more of a horror book) will get me to like the book.

I forgot Deadman was in Presents so I may try that too. I was a big fan of the character back in the '70s.

Beyond those titles and Batman, maybe I'll just see what passes the eyeball test. Smiley

I too think this book will work better in a nice collected edition, but please do yourself a favor and read Elegy before reading this arc. That book is one of the best DC publications of the past decade, and I'm certain that it will add a lot to your enjoyment of the new Batwoman title  Yes

One thing related to this week's releases that is seriously getting under my skin is the way some people are taking the changes made to Harley and Waller as personal affronts. HOW DARE THEY?!? THIS PAINTED WHORE IS NOT HARLEY! IF THIS IS THEIR IDEA OF CHANGE, I WANT NO PART IN THIS TRAVESTY!

My suggestion: STFU.  Jackoff
