It's not surprising that the Red Lanterns are getting a big push Jason. When the GL cartoon comes on they are big foe of the cartoon. So synergy wise they'll have action figures and probably be in some games.

Fascinating.

That's all right, boo.  There are still two weeks left where you might get it right.

Did no one read Grifter or did I just space out for a second while you talked about it?

Grifter is one of my favorite characters, but I can't get behind the art on the first issue. Didn't buy it and don't plan to unless they install a new art team.

Also can't believe no one has mentioned this yet but Vince, no love for the Batman cartoon?  I always loved that and being a kid when it was coming out that was appointment viewing when I got home from school. It was some of my first real exposure to the bat and it's always stuck with me.  I'll still go back and watch it now.

I recognize the quality of the things but, aside from the episode where they do the roundtable that includes the Frank Miller homage, they just don't do it for me. I've never been a big fan of cartoon versions of DC heroes. Never watched Super Friends as a kid and, until Teen Titans (which I love), I pretty much passed on everything since.  Whaaaat

That's cool. Still doesn't make the book a total limp dickscuit though.  Roll On Floor Laughing

I just told Jason who I was referring to in Superboy #1.  Can't wait for Vince to read it.

 Whistle

And now Vince knows, too.

Can someone spoiler tag for me who it was in Superboy that was a big surprise? I read the issue and enjoyed it immensely but I am not much of a DC guy (till now) so I have no idea.

Sure, it's:

Caitlyn Fairchild from Gen 13...she's the scientist in the issue (pre-powers).

Thank you. Yeah, never read any of that so she will be a brand new character to me either way. Definitely sticking with this book though.

None of us had read it before we recorded. But I really enjoyed it, and will be sticking with it (probably for as long as it's in print b/c initial indications suggest it's going to be one of the poorer selling books).

We'll talk it about it next week for you.  It's one of those times where I think Jason and I are of like minds.

I did not read, but A friend on twitter kept posting pics of panels of Terrific and his...concern about the tone of the book. In two or three instances

He's saying things like  "you can at least say 'thanks black guy' "
in another scene there were two women debating on whether they would speak to eachother the same way if "I was a black woman" or something to that effect.

It seems a little heavy handed with race concerns for a book that's debuting in 2011 for my tastes. I'm not saying ignore racial concerns, far from that. I just don't think that, from what I saw, it was going about it correctly. It doesn't seem to be within my tastes of subtlety

so there's my take on a book that I haven't read. giving my opinion in true uneducated internet fashion
But what do I know? I'm not familiar with the character and I didn't read the book so...

My appreciation for Ed Benes has grown mightily over the years. I thought his early stuff was solid and enjoyed his brief stint on Birds, but this Red Lantern stuff is smokin'. The man can sure draw pretty ladies. Very good with the xenomorphs, too.

I expressed those same issue with the book in the thread dedicated to discussing the new DC titles. It's the one thing that has me on alert. If that stays pervasive it may turn me off from what was an otherwise terrific read.

Gotta love context.

 Wink

The art should be good.  There aren't a lot of guys in collared shirts and neckties in a book chock full'a aliens.

Speaking of art: RE: Deathstroke - Joe Bennett and Art Thibert make a sweet team.

I'll be back and reading spoiler tagged posts in that thread once I finish Red Lanterns and post my thoughts.
