Great show you guys, these last few weeks have been pretty exciting, so have your shows. I realize there is probably no raw data available, but I was curious if anyone knew if there had been a spike in ipad/tablet sales due to the new 52?
I want to know digital sales data too I'm conflicted though, I want the sales to be astronomical (meaning new readers) but I also want them to be dismal so they drop the new comics price to $1.99 so I can purchase more

Really glad that David mentioned RED SKULL INCARNATE. Greg Pak's story is sooo dark but soo good. The story is more about the Nazi Party's rise to power and how it influenced young Johan Schmidt before Hitler trained him as the Red Skull. I fear how it will turn out. Plus the art work is very European and kind a reminds of Ralph Baski a little. Anyone else reading this?

Sorry? When did I ever say I was anything other than pro-editor's notes?
My apologies. I must have misheard. I was speaking specifically of the ones in the new 52 for the upcoming books that haven't been released yet.

Oh, we all loved the presence of the editor's note when we talked about it on the episode. The timing of the reference is what we were amused by.

i thought that the last few episodes weren't the strongest. with this new one they're back in form.
I thought your last few posts were rubbish, but it's good to see you rounding back into form.

Does anyone know if DC is gonna continue with the letter column? I really enjoyed the extra mileage when they brought that back, not to mention the nostalgia of it.

We seem to be on the same wavelength here. I'm planning to buy an iPad in the next month or so. It affords me an opportunity to get back into monthly comics reading. I need the issues to cost less in order to afford a monthly fix. I'm willing to read them in arrears, if that means the price drops.
What is the pricing policy for the digital DC comics? It drops to $1.99 after a month or two?
In addition, I also was excited that DC re-instituted the lettercol and hope that practice continues!

All new 52 books will drop $1 of the price once a month has passed since release. I'm pretty sure that the $3.99 books will only drop to $2.99. I hadn't thought of the letters column...I'd love them to return

Dave's E178 "In Your Travels" shout out to Red Skull: Incarnate was dead on. I, too, am not a big fan of the Hitler, but I am a fan of horror, particularly "reality horror," and it's been a long, long time since I've been chilled as thoroughly as I was by Greg Pak's writing on this series. Imagine Jason Lutes' BERLIN and then insert the pre-transformation Red Skull into it to show how he was shaped psychologically by the rise of the Nazi party. Much like Pak's X-Men: Magneto Testament, the story isn't about superpowers or classic hero action: it's an intense look at how an individual had to cope with the insanity of that time period. It's not a fun read because it's not escapist fantasy: it's inescapable history crawling into four-color comics and the Marvel Universe, injecting a level of depth that is a full magnitude more gripping than the average origin story.
(I would have put this in the Episode 178 forum, but it's not up yet--or I couldn't find it.)

Really? I'd say it's better than the Arkham Asylum/Arkham City outfit (games).

So the SHOW liked it? I don't recall the show talking about any specific comic. I remember David and Vince liking it. And I remember myself loathing it. And I remember Chris being mensa mensa.

Yeah, it's a problem. Not just with our show, but a lot of shows. If one person on a panel says something, some people hear that as ALL of them having that opinion. It's why so many people think you and Vince are dyed in the wool Chicago liberals.
