As Marvel were kind enough to release this in the UK on my 50th birthday i felt honour bound to go and see it.
So firts performance of the day, theatre half full and it was absolutely brilliant! There were several moments where watching the screen I had the same feeling i had when I was a ten year old reading these characters for the first time - Whedon pulled out all the stops.
Essentially a long action sequence with some character pieces in there but looking back on the film there was an arc within the story for each of the main heroes and things were left delightfully in the mid-credit piece at the end in respect of a sequel.
My wife enjoyed the film too - she has no real affection for the super-heroes but she laughed as much as the rest of us at a couple of magnificent Hulk moments. Banner is in many ways the breakout star of the film though Hawkeye has some good moments as do Stark and Loki.
Can not recommend it high enough - to me the film was as good for it's whole duration as the Nightcrawler opening sequence in X2. Now to see it again in the next few days with my son in tow!

Just back from seeing the movie... LOVED IT!!!! Pretty much what i expected. Anyone who's seen Serenity knows Joss Whedon can do massive, how are the getting out of this, endings and the Avengers has a beaut. All of the characters get their moment to shine especially a certain big green monster. Holy shit is the Hulk awesome in this movie. I've always liked, but never loved, the Hulk. I love this Hulk. The 2 funniest bits in the film come from him and watching him in action is a joy. Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner is great too. He steals the scene on more than one occasion. I've not process everything fully yet but it was great. And the after credits scene... em, when's the next film? I need to see it now.

I just got into a 20 minute discussion with the school nurse and secretary about all things Avengers. The nurse is going to bring me Captain America and Thor to watch next week.

The theatre near me is doing an all day marathon on Thursday of all the Marvel Studios movies, culminating in the midnight showing of Avengers. Sadly I cannot get a single one of my friends to take the day off and go with me so I'll be skipping it. Definitely looking forward to this!

Loved it, not perfect but had a great time watching it and so did a non-comic reader who was with me. Will wait until more have seen it before going into details.

Loved it!
They juggled all the characters brilliantly so that they all get a chance to shine. Much better job of that than any of the X-Men films.
Bring on the sequel!

I always think of Band Of Brothers. The greatest Mini-Series of all time. Bean

Fantastic. I loved it.
Whedon really knows how to juggle an emsemble cast.
It is chocked full of fan moments, great action sequences and it's laugh out loud hilarious at times (The X-Men franchise could learn a thing or two). There are a couple of moments with the Hulk that everybody in stitches.
Everyone gets their moment to shine and the time between characters seems more or less perfect. RDJr lights up every scene he is in, but doesn't overshadow everyone else. Maria Hill even gets a couple of moments and there is one teary moment that will get you.
The after the credits scene is gladly only a couple of minutes into the credits and it.....HELL YEAH when's that movie coming.

Whedon really knows how to juggle an emsemble cast. Couldn't agree more. He was the PERFECT director for this movie. Hope he sticks around, has it been announced if he is going to direct the next one? The box office will probably confirm that.

Saw it today and LOVED IT !!!!!! Exactly what it needed to be. And I knew the end credit baddie from the dialogue just seconds before the reveal. I almost screamed the name right there. I can't wait for the next one.
