Just got back and I gotta say I liked it a lot. I thought it was well done and that it did a magnificent job of balancing out screen time for a large cast (which is a problem many other movies that have multiple licensed characters fail at). My only gripe is that it was a bit too long. As I was watching it I became aware of how long the movie was rather than just having time fly by and being surprised that that much time had passed. I wish that it was edited down a bit here and there. All in all though, I enjoyed it. the Tiki

It was the equivalent of the first 3 issues instead of an oversized first issue...I liked how it felt like a whole movie had occurred before the invasion even began...it was like: here's the next ish!

What's funny to me is that the closer comic movie dialogue & action gets to what's actually in the comics, the better the movies do, and yet the general public still has a negative opinion of actual printed comics.
That seems like flawed logic. They didn't go see the Avengers movie because they liked comics, so I don't see how that can translate backwards except in the smallest numbers.

Bob is saying people aren't going to the movies because of the comics, yet when movies like the Avengers have great movie numbers, the general public still isn't like "let's go get some comics!" At least that is what the sales numbers suggest.

I thought it would be a little long, but I was so engrossed by the time the credits ran I couldn't believe it was already over. To each his own though, and I can see how some would say certain scenes were a little long.

Avengers was everything that I thought that the movie needed to be. As James Tucker said, "it had what a good superhero story needs. The 3 "H"s: Heart, Humor and Heroics".
I'm afraid the new Dark Knight movie will have none of those. I can understand why there wouldn't be humor in a Batman film, but it could use some heart or some humanity even. We may kick Marvel's ass on the animation side (in my opinion), but I have to say they bring it when it comes to the live action movies. Avengers is a movie that makes you want to see it again.

I TOTALLY get your feeling about the end. The last 1/2 hour of the movie was a roaring roller coaster ride that gets the adrenaline pumping so my mind was at a different place at that moment (and the after credits reveal made me give an audible gasp). I think there were a few parts prior to that that could have been trimmed but not cut out totally. Once again, as a whole, I loved it. the Tiki

I hope they are somehow re-writing IM3 to work Bruce into it somehow. Ruffalo nailed the role. In regards to the final, post post credit scene.

(LMD's are a thing in the movie universe, fury says coulson's "down" not "dead". they might have show coulson on the bridge post "dying".) 2- that might just be the mind gem on loki's spear. -mike

Anyone else get a feeling like the story beats were paced pretty similar to those that Joss used in "Serenity"? Not a bad thing in the least, since "Serenity" was definitely an under-appreciated flick, IMHO. Oooo...just had a brain flash. What about casting Nathan Fillion as Thanos? Joss loves to work with old friends...

The gf and I made a deal that I wouldn't groan at Whedon's one liners, and she wouldn't ask a bunch of stupid question about the Hulk's pants.
We both stayed true to our word and loved the fucking hell out of the movie.

I have to say I think Avengers has joined the Lord of the Rings at the very top of my list of all time favorite movies.

I would expect another first place. I'll be curious to see what it gets between Monday and Friday. I think Marvel has a good spot here in the first week of May, Avengers should have a nice long tail of sales. I know I will be seeing it at least one more time.
