I would have preferred it if they had cast Kurt Russell as the real Nick Fury, but that's a minor quibble and didn't lessen my enjoyment.
Big virtual hug for that. How cool would that have been? Bean

the more i reflect on it the more i get out of it, I loved that every character didn't just get screen time , they got GOOD AND IMPORTANT screen time, and there were some pure fanboy moments, like when that got spontaneous applause including my own amazing movie... and this scene got a ton of applause and hoots, including my own! truly awesome!

Saw it yesterday 3D IMAX. So much fun. But, I wish there was an IMAX version in 2D. The big screen, crazy sound system, but no glasses. But, Hell yeah!! Think I might go see it again tomorrow afternoon with the kiddo. No bad language that caught my attention. Very little blood. No sexytime that a little kid would notice. I get my DCBS box shipped weekly to the tattoo shop every Friday. But, since I played hookey yesterday, I had this waiting on me when I got there this morning. Man, this was so fun to go through after the movie. Beautiful concept art. Had a little OHOTMU feel to it. Some cool production stuff. For me, totally worth the pricetag. I might even go back and pick up some of the other movie art books now.

By the way, the top longbox is my Regina pile, the bottom one is what I've read over the last couple months that need to get filed away.

I saw Avengers Friday and Saturday, and unlike a lot of superhero movies, I didn't find the second watch at all tedious. I didn't love Avengers as much as some, but I really really liked it. I feel like Iron Man 1 is the best overall Marvel movie, but Avengers is right behind it, and of course outdoes EVERY summer blockbuster I can think of when it comes to spectacle. That final battle was just ridiculously awesome -- with most of that awesome coming from Hulk. They were fighting for a 3rd of the movie, and I never got tired of it. My one nitpicky complaint? I do not like the Cap suit. I totally buy Evans as Steve Rogers now, but that suit makes him look silly. I know fans tend to want the heroes to stay in costume, and wearing a mask when the character does, but when it comes to Cap I would be over the moon if they put Evans in Steve Roger's recent Shield costume. I think that would translate better to screen. The rest of the costumes looked pretty good. Especially ScarJo's. Dat ass. Here is what I'm curious about. I wonder if this insanely successful movie will translate to Whedon's future projects. Chris Nolan, thanks in large part to his work on Batman, is a name that can get fools to go to the theater to see an original movie (Inception). I wonder if Whedon will see a similar bump in his appeal with the public. I hope so. Dude is nice with it.

Also, at my theater we get a shit ton of ads before the movie. Because the seats were going fast at both screenings I went to, there were tons of people in the audience. Tons of people that are going to watch a movie about the Avengers. How amazing would it be to have a little ad with RDJ interacting with Bendis telling the audience there are these funny books that exist out there with more adventures featuring these characters?
I know this is brought up all the time, and there are surely really good reasons for why this sort of thing doesn't happen (maybe it wouldn't do any good), but damn would I like to see that.

is there any other reason why they call the cosmic cube "the tesseract" other than "cosmic cube" sounding silly? (not to me, BTW)
also, any reason given why they chose the chitauri rather than kree or skrulls? chitauri are kinda bland as far as aliens go and don't have the instant name recognition the other two have. or is it because they want to save the kree/skrulls for the war?

I read that the Kree and the Skrulls were a bit too big of a story to just throw them in to this first movie. I'm sure it is something tha5t will build up to it. Chitauri I'm sure were just fodder just to give them something to fight.

also, do skrulls exist in the ultimate universe? the chitauri are pretty much just ultimate skrulls. and they clearly have been using the ultimates as a reference point.
