infinity gauntlet is now the 1 graphic novel on amazon, due to the movie. based on its age and that its had a constant trade run, its EVERGREEN. even though  people discount marvel having any.

Really glad that book is being read by more fans. It really is my favorite "massive event" superhero story. Also, glad that the Avengers movie will be bring some attention to Starlin's cosmic work in general (and putting some money in his pockets)

I don't think any comic fans think that Does not Marvel have any "evergreen" stories... It's just that Marvel doesn't keep anything in print as to get the term "evergreen".  It's just a print strategy they choose to use.

Avengers is what I've always wanted out of a superhero movie. It actually FELT like reading a great Avengers book and for that reason it's probably my favourite comic film ever.

But then again, I have odd tastes because I loved the Watchmen movie. :p

Two things:

1) being number one for a few days in that category is not a big deal, sales wise
2) it's not evergreen. Walking Dead is evergreen. Watchmen is evergreen. Let's see if Gauntlet is on the charts in a month or two

i wasn't talking about its current sales rank as a reason for it being evergreen. imo an evergreen title is a book that has long since been paid for and is almost always in print making money for the publisher. infinity gauntlets been in constant print for 12 years. it most likely would have been longer if marvel hadn't been in such disarray during the mid 90s. the year 2000 for marvel is equivalent to 1986 in dc as far as their trade program.

Kree Skrull War and Infinity Gauntlet are classic Marvel stories but Marvel has never really made that Evergreen book.  Closest might be Daredevil BORN AGAIN or DARK PHOENIX SAGA.

I bet the Maria Hill opening and ending interrogations are...

...her being groomed by the World Security Council to take over Fury's job after the way he handled the Loki situation.

So I have a question about the Marvel Universe movies in general that I wonder what you guys think going forward.

Ever since the post credit's scene in Iron Man the idea that this movie was going to be a reality was planted, so while that has some positives in being a bold new cinematic venture it has one glaring negative, beyond the quality or the writing or anything else, stakes.

The instant they revealed the plan to link all those movies together it removed all real direct threat from those original movies, they became placeholders more than even a standard superhero move would be.

Now that Avengers has come the question becomes are the individual films still as beholden to a future Avengers sequel as to also loose all sense of tension within them, or are they more free to take chances with their movies and have them actually be about something and/or have weight.

My feeling is the former sadly though I would enjoy being proven wrong.

(It is funny by introducing continuity to film they have also accepted the inherent problems associated with it.)

I think we differ hugely on the merits of the individual films. I don't need them to have "more weight." They were well executed, fun, exciting "COMIC BOOK" movies, and I just need Marvel to keep making them. I assume the films will evolve as new directors make their own artistic choices, but these weren't designed -- nor do I expect them to become -- 'High Art.'

I don't need something to be 'High Art' to enjoy it, I could list countless action movies that have zero aspirations for anything more than entertainment but do it so much more focused and have stakes, heart, weight and all that, I dislike the assumption that because something isn't trying to be high art that it therefore becomes free to be whatever it wants as long as it is 'fun'. To swing this around to comics it is the same thing that separates a Hellboy from Atomic Robo. Both of them have humor and are action packed pulp adventures but Hellboy has gravitas and real emotion where AR has more jokes and a light tone, and one of them feels incredibly less satisfying as a result. This is probably just personal preference but weightless fun doesn't really do anything for me unless you are doing something I have never seen before.

Shane Black is writing and directing Iron Man 3. It's going to be great. Anyone that has seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang knows him and Downey are a magic combo.

I'd love to see Val Kilmer in this as well, the two of them were so good together in KKBB
