Thought? I thought it started out strong with some moments of great suspense. Especially the entire scene of them taking After that though I felt like way to much time was spent being dragged out regarding the Nice to see that there going to keep things from the book like I assume that this means they'll be heading to the farm next. No Tyrese, they seem to be skipping that whole chunk of story which is fine as long as he comes in eventually. The way I foresee it is, the most of this season will be spent recouping at the farm having arguments on who stays and who leaves along with the moral ramifications of new society. Maybe by the end of the season they'll make it to . Overall the episode was about 30 minutes to long and way to slow for me. Hopefully the pace will pick up a little as the season goes on. Travis

i enjoyed it. my biggest nit would be that i thought the episode didn't warrant an extended run time. i wished they filled it with more stuff to advance the plot.
i suspect my non-comic reading family and friends would enjoy the episode too. they really, REALLY dug the hell outta season one, turning it into a family activity. kids (teens), parents, aunt, uncles, grandparents... everybody watches the show.

I liked it, but I think it dragged due to the excessive commercials.

I'm beginning to resign myself to the fact I'm just not going to feel like I'm watching the same show as most of America. For me?...this was a snoozefest after the initial ordeal. I loved those first 15 minutes or so? But after that, it was just a drag on.

Cant really judge it since I watched it drunk at a party but it looked really good. It is also kind of doing a good job of going off in its own direction too.

I would say the segment up to the first commercial break was great. High suspense. After that while their were a several strong moments, other bits did seem slow and a bit drug out.
In the end when I'm fast forwarding through the commercials on the DVR and I see the time left and say "damn", it must be a good episode.

I enjoyed the episode but it felt more like a episode 5-8 in a season rather than a opener. Very slow pacing, no real pushing of character development, and little to no tension also the opening seemed like a ham-fisted recap. Having said that I still can't wait to watch next week but just compared to the season opener last year this was weak sauce. In Kirkman I trust. I think the season as a whole will still be great.

Another superficial comment until I rewatch it: the makeup continues to be absolutely brilliant.

What may seem like a dragged out episode was actually a pretty good plot device to give us snapshots into each of the survivors heads. We now know where everyone stands in terms of personal relationships and motives going forward. Having those revelations during a manhunt so to speak is a good way to accomplish that... plus it leads us to what happened at the end.
From what I've read, the action picks up starting next week.

i thought this episode was pretty good, but i agree with just about everyone else that it didn't warrant the 90 minute run time. after the herd of roamers moves on, it mostly dragged. but i'll keep checking it out, it's good enough and i'm really interested to see the farm and how they treat that section of the story.

Yeah... had a group of friends over and made a bunch of food and what not for the viewing. And I must say, we were all a little let down. First 20 mins! Awesome. Then it got bogged down with Kirkman esque dialog, and I'd say that's the shows weakest point. Just like the comic.
Oh well, I'll be back, just won't be making a production out of it. The cliffhanger was great.
All TV right now feels like I'm just killing time till Game of Thrones is back.

Yea…that zombie in the winnebago was pretty spooky. But, yea, maybe it dragged on a bit, and I could have gone without a few of those character exchanges. But listening to my girlfriend boom explicits at the television set every time Lori showed her face was worth the price of admission alone.

The church scene was my favourite from the episode for sure. WTF were they doing there in the pews!? Creepy as heck.
I love that Wolverine is in everything nowadays, even The Walking Dead. You just have to love the crossover!

I don't know guys, I want to support this show but I walked away from last night's episode a little disappointed. The first part that just was too much for me was the part where The scene that followed was great but I feel like that was most of the show. Why was this show 90 minutes when it seemed like there was a commercial break every other minute? There was no flow to the episode imo. I am on board for the foreseeable future, I just hope it gets better.

Won't be like that forever... According the aintitcoolnews the first 20 mins were originally written by Frank Darabont and was part of a different episode that did not come out well and that Kirkman wrote the last hour originally as the second episode. When Darabont was canned AMC merged them both into this 90 min episode. Apparently they did want to reshoot the entire first episode and used the strongest parts.

I can see and understand all your complaints and I'll admit there were a few dialog moments where I kinda rolled my eyes... Given that, I still loved the episode and cannot wait til sunday for the next one! This is the kinda thing that worried me when I first heard about darabont getting fired. I was watching this episode w/a few friends who either havent read the comics or only read the first trade, so in the final scene of the episode I was on the edge of my seat waiting for carl to get shot while everyone else in the room was completely surprised by it. Afterwards everyone turned to me and asked "Does he die!?!?". hehe

I liked the episode, but, i totally agree about it dragging. It was a 45 minute long episode at best, the rest felt like alot of filler.
