Deadpool is one of the coolest mini-figs.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed by the Super Heroes line.

While I'll be buying the Copter because I can't resist Wolverine and Deadpool minis, most of these sets are really excuses to sell licensed mini-figs. I mean...what does a copter have to do with Magneto, Wolverine and Deadpool? Why is there a jeep with Loki and Iron Man? Why does Cap have a cycle?

And these aren't really detailed sets a la the Harry Potter or Star Wars, but they're very low piece counts, and very basic. For a 400ish piece set to cost $19.99? A little bit of taking advantage of our fandom I think.

Or $25 in Canada  Bangs Head.

Cap will be for me, the Copter for my boys.  But otherwise, even the Batman redux sets are a little weak I will agree.

As for the Jeep with Loki and Iron Man, I am guessing it ties to the movie???

Wood,

You would know much more about this than most of us (judging by how well you schooled so many on the Disney acquisition of Marvel (thank you by the way that was still one of the best discussions I had heard on the topic) But I was under the impression (maybe mistakenly) that one of the larger reason for the price hike on per piece situation was the licensing fees that LEGO has to pay to produce Marvel toys. Of course I could be wrong on all of this but that was my understanding of it.

But I do agree I was hoping for a better showing as fas as sets goes. Although at least Cap has ridden a motorcycle. The Wolverine set with the helicopter (which itself is pretty cool though) I accounted to the Origins scene and then swapped in more recognizable figures...or maybe just an excuse to have Deadpool which is fine enough by me.

I don't think license fees have anything to do with it.  They've had to pay for Batman, Star Wars, and Harry Potter before.  I can't imagine Marvel would cost that much more.  I think the price increase is just cause of regular market price hikes across the board.  Here's just a few of the cost increases I have seen.

DC Universe - was 12.99, now 14.99-17.99
'Marvel Legends - was 7.99-9.99, now 14.99-17.99
G.I.Joe - was 6.49, now 9.99-10.49
Transformers DLX - was 9.99, now 12.99-14.99
McFarlane Sports - were 10.99, now 14.99

So it's not just the Lego line that's being affected.  And also part of the reason I just don't buy toys anymore.

It emphasizes though how action figures are now (like comics) pretty much for collectors and not for kids.  My boys never even look at action figures anymore, and when we do go through the aisles, the people that I see putting them in their baskets look more like me than they do my sons. Smiley

At $15 for a figure, how in the hell can people justify that??!?! That's why I laugh when people scoff at how "expensive" LEGOs are. Yeah, they're not cheap. But they last forever, and my kids get countless hours of fun with them. Most importantly, they can be something new when they get tired of what they are today.

i think this is what i loved most of all with my legos as a kid, the sets only stayed what they were on the box for a couple days then they inevitably became something grander and more fun Smiley

I agree with what you mean but I was more comparing it to other LEGO sets. They are on par price point wise with DC. They are more than Harry Potter and close to Star Wars. But all of them that are licensed are more expensive than Castle, or Atlantis. That was what I mean with my immediate comparison.

AH!  That I wouldn't know.  The only time I actually look at anything Lego not of a licensed property is when I stop by the Lego store to browse, and they always jack up prices.

@Wood -as for the price if action figures, yes it has gotten insane.  I've stopped buying most lines (I may be stopping at 1500 Joes).  But I have also noticed that there are constant sales running on one line or another.  And yes, my 5 year old could not give a darn about the Star Wars figures I am buying "for him".  He is all about the Lego.  Also of interest is that figures are now almost par between the U.S. and Canada.

If anyone likes the Dino line you better buy them up quick as the line is being dropped after just 6 months.

Also - if you're going to collect something, Lego just makes sense.

As for the licensing aspect,  it seems to me that TLG really started to take on more licensed properties after they lost the infringement lawsuit against Mega Books.

Back to the toys sets themselves... I agree that the vehicles and surroundings seem to make more sense in the DC offerings.

There will be a Lex Luthor minifig in his little power suit available with a prebook of the Lego Batman 2 game.  So far this has only been listed in Australia, but we should be getting it in North Am too.

The one advantage the Marvel Lego has over the DC stuff is the variety of characters.  Gimme a Flash and GL please.  The new Batcave is very nice though.

Attention forumites with kids:

On Saturday May 19th Lego stores are having their monthly "Building Club"... This month's theme... Avengers!

I think June's theme will be DC as well.
