Jason Aaron's Hulk

I kind of fell off the Hulk wagon around World War Hulk and have been waiting for a good jumping on point for a long time…and I thought this issue would be a great place to do just that.

I have a lot of faith in Jason Aaron as a writer, and love Silvestri, but I was a bit lost after reading issue one….

I don't think it was a well-constructed #1 issue.

There was a setup for this at the end of Fear Itself #7.  That set-up had no clear through-line to the #1 issue.

Banner as "Dr. Moreau" was not working for me.  How is it that every scientist in the Marvel U is automatically a genius in every discipline of science?  Banner was a nuclear physicist of some kind specializing in gamma technology, now he's a geneticist?

This series will mostly be a win for people who are really big fans of Silvestri's art, but he's not sticking around past #3.

Never read Hulk, I'm just not a fan of the character but if anyone can sell me a Hulk book it is Aaron so I'm giving it a go.

I believe it starts after the end of fear itself which probably complicates things, not sure if it will help things but these are the pages from the end of fear itself that relate to the hulk

Still confused though.   

I went into this issue with the same mindset that I had with the new 52 (which was letting it all hang out, and letting go of preconceived continuity).  Was that wrong?  Was that the wrong mindset?

I love Jason Aaron, and I love the Hulk.  That being said, I won't be reading issue #2.

Ive read all of Greg Pak's run and most of the runs before that so I would say this issue is new reader friendly so far. We have had the Hulk seperated from Banner before but not like this where Banner is almost the bad guy of the story which is interesting. He also doesnt have Betty to lean on right now because she will be off with the Defenders trying to help the Hulk. I also LOVED the art in this book Silvestri has always been a favorite of mine.

The Hulk is one of my all-time favorite characters, but I haven't read a monthly Hulk title since the Peter David/Dale Keown run. I did enjoy reading Planet Hulk in trade recently and have been looking for a good time to jump back onboard.

I liked the issue. I have faith in Aaron, and I don't mind being thrown into the middle of the action without any backstory. Isn't that how we all started reading comics for the first time anyway?

I don't yet have issue #1 (monthly ships from DCBS) so I can't comment on the book.  As a fan of Silvestri I'm excited.

I'm trade-waiting this after hearing about sme initial confusion. If any writer has earned my patience, it's Jason Aaron.

Nope.

When I started reading comics there was an attempt to tell a clear piece of story in each issue that, while part of a larger narrative, could stand on it's own in a non-confusing way.

There are still some writers who follow this method of story-telling, I tend to prefer their their work for monthly comics.

I've read very little Hulk. I bought this because of Jason Aaron. I liked it but I wasn't blown away. I think Aaron could be a good fit for the Hulk, but I don't think I'm sticking around.

hulk typically doesn't do anything for me. the few things i've read from the character have left me generally pretty cold.  so i don't have much previous experience.  all that being said, i like jason aaron, so i checked it out.  i kinda liked this issue.   i wasn't blown away, and probably won't be in it for the long haul, but will pick up another issue or two to see where it goes.  i like the hulk vs. banner aspect and i thought there was a good balance of mystery and exposition to get me intrigued for the future of the title.
