My final haul. I spent way too much at the Con but I had an amazing time.
Monsters Inc. by Skottie Young. My buddies snagged baby Iron Fist and Venom commissions too. Skottie is not only a great artist but an incredible cool guy.
Chuck and Sarah Commission by Chrissie Zullo
Ultimate Avengers page by Carlos Pacheco and Dexter Vines
Oz page by Skottie Young. He was selling these for $80. What a steal.
Joe the Barbarian by Sean Murphy
Dragon Robot Commission by Sean Murphy. I know Murphy's commission policy makes it tough for him to get commission work but he is one of the most talented artists in comics and a great guy. If you're at a convention with Sean Murphy, its definitely worth getting a commission from him.

Very bummed I didn't end up making it in for the show but it looks like everyone had an awesome time!  Already planning for New York this year so hopefully I'll see some of you there!

Flea market-like atmosphere with lots of artists, good comic creator guests, convienient parking and nearby great selection of food made for a very fun Con with the true lure of the show: spending time with friends Chris Campbell, Chris Keszycki, Darrell, freakytiki Tim, and my travelling buddy new mutant Alan, who logged 380 miles in the car with me travelling to, from and between.

....and I got to meet friggin' Berni Wrightson, first a bit nervously (and therefore rushed on my part) on Saturday, and then again Sunday, more casually....one of the few creators out there I'd still be star struck in meeting!

Just arriving at the Con Saturday a.m.

A good lunch (and dessert for some!) with Alan, Tim, Darrell, Chris Campbell, and Chris K

Tim was smart to ask for that Blueberry HC signed by Moebius to be opened for a look...pretty anti-
climactic = no sale

Monsta's table was like a friendly oasis to re-visit routinely....couldn't stop and say Hi each time, though,
because these guys had some traffic at their table!

Saturday afternoon got crowded, but thanks to Tim and Chris's near matching table-cloth plaid shirts, they
could usually be spotted (like Tim near the foreground here)

Chris, Darrell & Chris' apartment-turned-hotel room was great for hanging out, plus right across the street
from Fenway, during a game with NY in town celebrating Fenway's 100th anniversary!

Heading to Uburger for grub and then drinking at a Fenway bar while Chris & Tim did the Cigar lounge thing

Late night talking comics and manipulative wife behavior Sat night

Shoot a Stormtrooper for charity!

Alan knows what to do with a staircase like this

The band getting ready to break up Sunday afternoon

How many blocks in the rain is it to Newbury Comics from the Con?
Too many!

Chris on the trail of tears

Tim has made it across the cold, rainy concrete trail and led us to Newbury Comics!

Alan in the bunker!

Loot!

Tim got to talk shop with master Frazetta-trained painter Ken Kelly (Kiss Destroyer album cover, anyone?)
while I bought his book and got it signed

Got some cool prints for my kids' rooms (3 and 7 y/o boys):
Jeremy Bastion

Katie Cook

Geof Darrow

Bunch of other prints, books, and autographed bookplate labels for my hardcovers

Berni prints, plus he signed this color one I've had from his 1978 portfolio that I've had since I was 11 in
1981!

Michael Dooney Con print, plus a couple of his Victorian Steam-punk DC gals

...and Met the lovely Sara Richard and picked up her sketchbook and a Poison Ivy print

Part 1

First and foremost, thank you to everyone from the forum who stopped by. I got to talk with Steveraker, NewMutant, thefreakytiki, ChrisCampbell, JTobin, and few cats I who said that they lurk but don't really post (I have you guys written down at home & will post later). I also know I missed a couple people who asked "where's Monsta?" thanks to you as well, I wish I got to meet you.

I have been coming to the Boston show(s) for many years. This was my first show as an artist. It's been a goal/dream of mine for a long time. Here's my blow by blow from "The other side of the table."

Saturday, 7:45am: - People were already lined up. Found the table and realized that the spot was awesome! An end-cap on the outside edge of the show right across from Tim Sale, Eric Canete, and Sean Murphy. I setup my table and walked around. I talked with Geoff Darrow (who is awesome & a God), Bill Sienkiewicz, Skottie Young, Michael Golden, and Clayton Crain (who is amazing to watch paint in real life).  I had a chance to talk to Sean Murphy & he was very cool, and I got to see a Jorge Zaffino Punisher page he was bringing around to old inkers trying to figure out how Zaffino worked. I also talked with Daniel Govar who was very cool and supportive.

10:00 - Show starts place fills up, and for the first 50 minutes or so, not many people even look at my table. I figured this would happen because I know most people want to run to however they really want to see first (pros). I didn't really do this to make money, but I definitely didn't want to get skunked.

10:55 - I sell a print, and I'm off the schneid!! From there I started meeting forum members and sales picked up considerably. My 2 tablemates were cursing me. And cursing Adventure Time!

12:30 - my wife and a friend of mine called me from the line outside. I run down to find them and get them in. The line is massive! It's the whole length of the building and wrapped around the corner, oh and it's like 6 people wide.

to be continued

Had a great time at the con this past weekend. It was great meeting Darrel,Chris Campbell, and hanging out with Tiki and Chris K (along with Jamal Igle) on Friday night. I didn't hang out with everyone at the actual Con, but i was able to stop by and meet Monsta and get my copy of the EOC II anthology (with my first ever comic in it). It was a really fun time and I can't wait for next year and for this con to get bigger and bigger. Thanks all!!
